Reaching out to the community here. When SWG first came out, I played it, for ~ a year, and left, dissatisfied after MUCH grinding. I am curious with the changes to legends, can maybe someone that plays it still give me some convincing changes and information? there is a side of me that would like to give it a try again, but not sure it is really worth the effort.

This emu is based on the NGE abomination, so what you called grinding is gone. It's more Themepark like.

This emu server doesn't cost anything and is one of the better ones out there that actually works. So you can try out and see for yourself.

I like the original SWG, due to it's open skill system, but this EMU isn't as good due to the very old code they have to reverse engineer and sadly, the SWGEMU team had a lot of infighting and thus dev changes over the years, that really hampered progress and chased people away, me included. :(

So to SWG:Legends credit, they at least have a cohesive dev team that works and it shows in the quality of the emulation.

Legends is based on the NGE version of the game. My take is it's very much a labor of love effort with the dev's adding more cosmetic items, rolling back the Imp Retreat theme park to it's harder version and adding new content in the form of planets and quests.

They've also added some fairly good rules in the form of no marco areas and if auto farming in a questing spot you're required to accept group requests so as not to steal away from questers.

The grinding part is gone; well on the ground anyway, space is still the same as the old live version of the game.

If you played NGE back in the day you won't notice a lot of differences.

Like JeroKane said SWGEMU (the oldest) has had problems in the past and is strickly the ground only version of the original game.

SWG: Restorations (the newest) is a mix of old (skill trees) and NGE quests.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

i dont know why but never actually looked into, that any of these switched over to unreal 5 with better graphics and put an option when creating your character pre cu or nge , now i know its probably not possible but maybe it is because we are just talking about skill trees . graphics and game play lol , just made myself laugh out loud , i guess that is a tall order but whatever if those guys at star citizen can keep getting people to pay for those ships lol then why not get a whole new server funding going and actually do something worth it

One thing I noticed is that all these emulators use the same skybox from the days when they turned up the lighting on the planets. I remember back when it would get so dark at night in the game the only light you had was your personal light; you could maybe make out shadows in the distance.

I remember leaving Science outpost on Dathomir once as a noob and seeing the motionless silhouettes of Nightsisters perched on top of Rancors on the hillside and thinking nope. Even the clouds looked better back in the day, SOE really messed up the sky and it still show s up in the emus.

I remember back in the day if you spoke about this, you could get your post rejected. How times have changed :)

SWG never had a bad grind lol. You can literally master a profession in a week, most crafting professions within a few hours.

Jedi, on the other hand (pre-nge) was a nightmare, but was a good ride getting there.

Space combat, depth of crafting, crazy home decorations, large massive worlds, spawns of animals would attack other spawns, harvesters were great (i hate chopping trees and hammering ore deposits), and so much more.

Removal of decay killed player economy, saturated the markets. I mean once you had a harvester droid you would never need another. A suit of armor would last you a life time. Slap in the face to crafters.

Still one of the best games out there. Wish they would make SWG2 honestly.

My opinions of course, some may disagree, but I played SWG from start to finish and will for always be a SWG fan.

Yeah I was wondering what this grind was he spoke of too lol. When I first starting playing swg yeah I thought it was a grind, until I learned about macros and buffs, then I figured out you could change and grind professions out in a week or two casually. The village that was the real grind until the CU hit and people started doing spin groups, you could level a character in a few days.

excellent feedback from all. Really appreciate it. I watch a good bit of Youtube talking about the Legends. TBH, their galaxy at war system, taking over planets, etc. seems like a nice change from the original concept.
lack of grind (as there is a ton to explore and do in that game ) may work to a players advantage. Will try it out. just gotta track down a copy. I know I have a CD version around here somewhere... Just need to find a uh... drive lol

Until I see a better engine, better animations and rigging, and way better graphics, I don't see anyone worth calling a developer or designer. All I see are switch flippers on a pirate server.

maybe but those servers have never actually forced me to pay them a dime to play on them .......

Never argue with poor people, they will drag you down on their level and win on experience.

I think Turtle WoW and the private City of Heroes/Villains servers are good examples.

The ignorance wouldn't be so annoying if you weren't putting down these devs while you displayed it.

I'm sorry you got triggered, boo boo. Fact is, if they had any talent at all, they wouldn't be running a pirate server of someone else's game. They'd have their own. Any schmuck can run a pirate server. Hell, even you could do it.

I think it's "ok" to talk about because the game no longer exists and the only way it could exist is with private servers.

Not sure if "for some reason" Star Wars Galaxies was to officially launch again if private servers would be a kosher topic.

However, I highly doubt it will launch again. At least not the original version.
