The character who said "let the fade come closer" was clearly based off of Peter Cushing.
It "looks" great but we'll see. I absolutely hated Inquisition.
I really enjoyed 1 and 3 I could not get into 2 at all. This one looks more into that vein so far I have not been impressed. I just recently played through the first two the second one was rough man.

I really liked the second game. It was just a different experience and wouldn’t be for everyone’s taste.
issues I remember are that they had few areas and reused them a lot.
also think players didn’t get or at least like that he was a reluctant hero.
Top that off with the fact he was a pre-named character and that turns off a lot of players.

I didn't mind the premade part the closed of levels were tough though. I also did not like the action combat the story was good. The thing about the new one I am not liking so far and maybe i just miss understood how it works is it looks like you control just the main character. I am hoping it is good and I will be buying it day one.

Yes, you control the main character. Admittedly that's what I like about it.

Not a fan of action combat. Prefer real time with pause and then only controlling one character is not so great. However I am okay with specific and general rules for the behaviour of the other group members. I can also sometimes find controlling every party member a bit tiring but I generally enjoy that more.
Hopefully this one bombs quick enough EA cancels the new Mass Effect and finally retires the Bioware name to the graveyard out back. I already know this is going to be shit, I don't want ME drug any lower than Andromeda already managed.
If you look at the multitude of videos and articles, this game will be DOA. And rightfully earned imo. This looks more like Fortnite than a proper DA.
I'd take that bet. I don't believe it will be dead on arrival at all. I think it will sell a LOT of copies.
That depends on how you define "a lot" in this case. So far, the game is not doing well, according to SteamDB:
Two months before release it barely made it into top 50 followed games and is #39 in top sellers. Hardly what you would expect for a smash hit and definitely not what you would have imagined after the groundbreaking DA:O 15 years ago. Can you imagine after DA:O back around 2010 a new Dragon Age game not being in the top 10 immediately when the pre-orders open? Yet here we are...
Now with the latest news that you will actually not be able to control your party and with the gameplay moving closer to a random shooter / action game than to a tactical RPG, what actually remains of Dragon Age in this new release? Apart from the name, that is.
I am sure that EA and Bioware's PR drones will try to spin the sales into a major success, no matter the actual numbers. I have my doubts who this game is actually for. This will be Andromeda 2 and years from now will be mostly known for memes.
That is because they betrayed the Dragon Age gameplay. What a wonderful thing it would be to have another Dragon Age with upgraded graphics. The fans of the original game are continuously being disappointed. The second game was awful. Third was so-so.
I really want a game I can enjoy . Instead they make the type of games the fans of the original will hate.
I am quite sure the next Mass Effect will be as bad as Andromeda which was an abomination.
Why are the characters so cartoonish? Feels like a Scoobydoo episode.
Also. Shouldn't the game better be called "fellowship of the DEI". Holy... never seen so much effort to shove LA alternative progressives into a game. Half of them look like crazy racist stereotypes.
Game is gonna be bad to the point of ending DA franchise. 3rd game almost made it but now they have gone all in.
I still have fond memories of DA:Origins. Even DA2 (with its weird gameplay/scenarios decissions). They can't take that away from us no matter how much garbage they produce now.

Cartoonish drawing and colouring have become a movement in gaming. They are simpler to do and seen as more friendly. Raph on here told us recently that women are put of my hyper realism in multiplayer games as they associate it with "gatekeeping" players. I was shocked, but I am sure he has done the work to back that up.
I had already put this all down to catering to teens. To me this is part of the infantilization of gaming, analogous to that talked about by directors in modern film and TV.
Also lets try to keep the politics out of the posts, a game should live or die on how good it is, that alone.
I'd take that bet. I don't believe it will be dead on arrival at all. I think it will sell a LOT of copies.

I would bet the reason it's not followed so ardently is that it's been years since a Dragon Age game. I don't know how Inquisition was received but I hated it. It was like they took the must dull aspects of an mmorpg and decided to put it in a single player video game. Additionally, those map missions really killed it for me.
It was like they just stopped all forward movement of the plot.
Now, I don't know if Inquisition stopped the series' momentum. People loved the first one, a lot of people didn't like the second, and then we had Inquisition. The first one sold a little over 3 million, the second one about 2 million and Inquisition sold about 6 million so that's twice as much as the first one.
Now, it's also pertinent to say that when I say a "lot" of copies I'm talking about copies for this type of game. I don't think the fan base for this type of game is huge. It's certainly not 1st person shooter large or Skyrim large. Tactical rpg where you have to control a party might not be a big sell. I personally don't like controlling a party which is why their change for this game is more attractive.
In any case, my thinking is that their PR team will put this in front of more eyes and they will stoke more excitement. It will sell a lot of copies out of the gate. Now, I'll concede that if the game is just "no good" people will tear it apart and it will die shortly thereafter.
However, I think the developers know they need a hit and they've pulled out all the stops.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I didn't find the 3rd Dragon Age game particular amazing, though it did have some things i enjoyed, like the castle rebuilding; but it also seemed to capitalize on a online multiplayer component that fizzled out quite quickly.
All in all i remember walking away from Inquisition very unsatisfied, and that experience was before the 'live service' wave took hold of single-player games in the fashion that they do today.

I have liked all the games so far, even the second, why you ask? Well the fact that we hardly ever see AAA RPG's certainly has something to do with it!

I love D&D / PF, but I also heavily dislike controlling an entire party. Would be nice if there were auto builds / AI that was competent enough for anything below "dark souls masochism".
Why? Do you control a party or bother with that on TT?
That is why I liked the combat tactics part of DA:O. Just set up basic conditionals and HAVE FUN!
I have liked all the games so far, even the second, why you ask? Well the fact that we hardly ever see AAA RPG's certainly has something to do with it!
The 2nd one has its own huge issues, from the drastic change of story and narrative - almost completely abandoning the faux-historical dark epic of GWs vs darkspawn - to heavily re-used locations, way worse graphics, removal or toning down of key features, such as tactical play and build diversity... The list goes on.
But at the same time, I think it still is a solid game, especially considering it was developed in a bit over a year, I believe. Its pacing across the 3 acts was well done and it had some very interesting boss fights. And of course, it has by far the most difficult boss fight in the entire series. But since the fight is optional, it's just there for those who wish to test themselves.
DA:O is still head and shoulders above the rest, of course, in pretty much every aspect. Not to mention it's the only one in the series with a Spirit Warrior build, so of course it wins. My personal ranking is DA:O, DA2, DA:I.
As for this new one, I don't consider it DA any longer. It may use names, places, terminology, etc. developed for the previous DA games, but it is nothing more than a dead body, reanimated and sent forth with a purple lipstick on.
I really loved the first game. I did not care for the second game at all, didn't bother finishing it. I found the third game to be quite mediocre overall and just felt off somehow, but I did finish it at least. I find I have very little interest in the upcoming game, it will end up being something I buy in the future when it is on sale heavily discounted.

Players cannot trust that any IP will take forward the values from production to lore of a beloved franchise. Especially if there has been a long gap between the last and latest iteration of the franchise. This applies to games, films and TV, even in a lesser extent to books.
