Questing and why it's different

Questing in Ashes will be a little different. There is four areas of questing.

1. Commissions.

2. Side Quests

3. Evevnts

4. Story Arcs

This is something I wish more games would do. These work organically together. EQ-Next was trying to do something like this.

Commission are not required but a good place to start. You get them from a population center. They are you simple kill or gather quests. The things that's interesting is you will only get commissions that will point you towards Side Quests that are active.

Side quests come and go and you may find side quests in different places and may rotate or be triggered by players interaction with the world.

An example is a War node type could be progressed by players feeding it exp just by doing actions in the area to grow/level that node. One being allot of mining is going on, so now there is a minor outside a cave asking you to save his brother. Goblins have been unearthed and are fighting back.

So now players start killing Goblins and doing side quests to deal with these goblins. That's when the fun really starts. Players doing all these things to the nasty goblins, now triggers an Event.

Events are what are needed to trigger Story Arcs. During the Event many things can happen that will require many players to win or lose an event. Could be hords of Goblins attack population points on the node.

Events could even spawn smaller dungeons and maybe even mini bosses. These mini bosses could just wander the world or spawn to attack population centers. Fail and now the land of filled with Goblins, nodes have been de-leveled and we start behind the 8 ball back at step one Commissions.

If we win the event by working together. We could see a Story Arc that does something like this. Goblin kind come in and Rampage the land. A goblin tower built of wood and bones of their enimies. This tower would be a massive dungeon that's 6 floors, outside and around it, enough to support a few teams of lower level players. Each level of the tower can support 4-6 full teams and even level gets harder as you progress up each floor.

Again, wining or losing the story Arc, will leave a mark on that node. Giving blessings or leaving the node in shambles.

The whole time, players can keep progressing this questing system and new Story Arcs could be just around the corner.

And you've played this yes?  Or seen it all in a video maybe?

Or are you speaking more from the hypothetical viewpoint?

Been showed in videos right down to the story Arcs. Its content ready to be tested in A2. You can also read about it in the ashes wiki. Just thought I would share for two reasons. Sick of hearing there is no PvE content and two. This was one of the things from EQ-Next I was most excited about. Wish more MMOs would do this reactive story telling.
