kids graduating college right now named Jaina and Anduin

Which is sad on a number of levels. I can only imagine that conversation. "Really mom? You named me after a WoW character? Is that why my middle name is Pathetic?"

is it better to be named after something like the bible, as so many are?

    I'd rather be named Anduin.

Jaina is an Indian name by the way not necessarily a WoW thing why some kids are named Jaina. It means victory and good character in Hindi. I know an old lady by that name. Very Indian and very traditional.

Anduin was the river that crossed most of Middle-earth east of the Misty Mountains in the Hobbit, the ring was found there. So if anything WoW is the one that took that name from the book that came out in 1937.

However I get your point but sometimes innocuous names can turn out bad like if you called a child Karen. I think they might hate you now given how that name has evolved. I pity the Karens of the world.

It is not just celebrities who name their kids Sky or Blue, some poor sod is no doubt going to be called Blue Sky one day. So in contrast to that I think those "WoW" kids did pretty well. :)

I don't see a problem with naming your child after a gaming name. Nothing wrong with gaming. People name their children after characters in books, movies, artists all the time.
Why should our artform be excluded?

    Boomer mentality at it's finest.

Name your kids what you want or what you're passionate about, or even what you think sounds pretty.

These judgy assholes are the worst types.

If you look at naming popularity, it always coincides with pop culture. Back when Twilight was huge, Edward and Bella were huge names. I work in higher education and I see pop culture names all the time.

I'm gonna name my next kid Conker and wait to see what happens on his first bad hair day.

Conkers are banned from school now, you would think we were having knife fights or something! That is how obsessed people have become with "risk".

Somewhere, a kid is being named Hitler Goebbels Smith and they'll think that's perfectly acceptable.
