Black Myth: Wukong, the hotly anticipated action adventure game from Chinese studio Game Science, launched on PC and PlayStation 5 today, and in doing so it broke concurrent player records.
Comments
the dodging is also very unresponsive because the game does not seem to have a action queue.
so sometimes you just do not dodge at all because you press dodge during the animation and sometimes you do, alot of times the perfect dodges you do feels more like luck than mastery.
the whole combat just ends up being spam as many staggering attacks and spells as possible in a fast amount of time because of the unresponsive combat.
as for exploration it's very minimal, if you look at the linear dark souls series or even god of war despite it being linear you have alot of leeway on where you could explore to find weapons n stuff but in this game it's very minimal.
game also spams you with bosses sometimes, alot of em are very average and not balanced properly, with quite a few em having moves that have hardly any build up and attack faster than you can react to (which results in as you guessed, spam staggering attacks and spells).
the story and voice acting is pretty hit or miss, the game basicly expects you to know the whole journey to the west book to know what's going on, this game is more of a "HEY LOOK! IT'S X CHARACTER FROM THE BOOK" kind of game instead of an actuall reteling of the story in
a video game format.
as for graphics it's pretty ok, honestly nothing awe inspiring it just looks like any other unreal 5 game like if i compare hellblade 2's graphics to wukong, hellblade 2 easily takes it
ign's score of a 8 out of 10 is a pretty reasonable score for this game. and it's honestly very overhyped most likely due to the insane amount of marketing this game got.
music is also very backgroundish and mostly quiet, honestly i don't remember a single ost except for the shamizen player at the second chapter.
i will have to wait a month or two till people get past the honeymoon phase and see the flaws with the game.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
People go to sleep and then to work. That's not such an outlandish concept, is it? Look at the chart:
14:00 UTC is late afternoon in Europe and late evening in Beijing. 22:00 UTC is midnight in Europe and 6 AM in Beijing. On a work day.
Those 300k players are probably US players, as everyone else is asleep. Especially with this game, where you can safely assume most of the players are Chinese, given its setting and source material.
This has nothing to do with bots, it is what a healthy playerbase looks like. People with a normal work / life balance.
The population does seem to be cyclical. Its back up to 2 million or so players this morning so the timing does fit. I still do find that many players with so few hours though (on average) interesting. I wonder if its more game design or cultural.
That's where their shit started, with their hack so-called "journalist" Rebekah Valentine. And they linked to it in every article afterwards, knowing it was all bullshit.
They only came out with the good review after getting trashed in dozens of youtube vids, on X, etc.
I think there will be one hell of a party over at their studio...
So shall we have a little wager? 3 million concurrent players this weekend? If you lose, I'll have a beer. If I lose, I'll have a beer. Honest - no cheating!
