good review, very helpful. was hopeful for this :( was a big fan of secret of mana growing up and had a lot of fun with trials of mana. sadly am not surprised about the combat and characters, I had a lot of similar complaints with trials of mana, and the demo of this felt very similar. if anything the areas felt much more open than trials so thats cool. will keep an eye out for a steam sale or something down the line.

I just finished the trials re-make, and enjoyed it. It sounds like this is more of the same (good and bad) so I'm excited to try it this weekend. I wouldn't call Trials a masterpiece but it was fun.

The asking price for remakes is just trying to milk people's nostalgia and targeting people like me who love JRPGs but wanted them on the PC. We are a very susceptible subset.

But if like me everything from console put onto PC is new then it has opened a world of opportunities. Not that many JRPG's I have gone for but there are exceptions including some FF and the great Valkyria Chronicles.

Have always loved JRPG's and will play them on whatever system. These days i seem to play more Open World RPG's, maybe trying to get that sense of exploration back as there is no MMORPG i am playing these days.

Sorry @Scot but the Anti-Console jig is up. Saw your living room posted on your Instagram

It does not matter what sort of gamer you are as long as you are a gamer, I do like to tease console players though. Awesome display and these days probably worth some money.

My initial impressions are positive. It's a lot better than Trials of Mana Remake. Combat and movement are good, the soundtrack slaps, the class system is great, and it's gorgeous.

Shame a bad demo lead to the studio being closed on launch day.

Bastards NetEase gutted Ouka on launch day. I mean that is beyond mean.

Yeah, I reckon that warrants a consumer boycott of NetEase. It was needlessly cruel to a talented studio, and it means that the consumers don't get patch support during the critical launch window.

Long term though I think it a good thing. NetEase and Tencent have been pulling back on funding Japanese games because of different business vision and priorities and it is likely a good thing for the individual franchises to stay supported by those that believe in the projects and IPs over those that have agendas that do not align with the development team's vision.
