I spent a summer working at CIG and I thought Roberts was decent enough.
I left only because every Monday morning, around the water Kool-Aid cooler, we'd have to listen to Babs recount his weekend 'conquests'.

    It became too much.

I had no coffee in my hand, you lose this round Wargfoot!

Just casually following Star Citizen although i love space games because as Babs said earlier its designed around Full loot multiplayer which isn't always my thing.

Wasn't there supposed to be a single player version of Star Citizen so you can enjoy the game without the need for multiplayer, or at least get better before trying the multiplayer? The idea may have been scrapped years ago or maybe i just misunderstood?

I just put together from the article that it was Squadron 42 i was thinking of.

Yes, that was SQ-42, it hasn't been released yet either. As far as I can tell, there is no projected release date for either of them. No "roadmap" actually has release as a destination.

CIG appears to be unable to actually release a working game.

As far how things go, SQ42 is still the main focus to release before SC itself achieves any stable version.

It is expected next month, at the game's conference, the SP campaign is going to be its major focus.

People are expecting a release date to be announced after years of silence, and the game to open pre-orders.

Thanks olepi, indeed, nothing released yet for Squadron 42. It seemed so long ago since i heard about this i couldn't remember much about the single player version, including the name.

Just decided to do a little search on Squadron 42 now that i know what it is :)

According to a PC Gamer article November 2023 it was *feature complete* last year and was being polished, getting cinematic cut scenes etc.

Found an article on it here from October 2023 that i didn't see before: https://www.mmorpg.com/news/star-citizens-single-player-campaign-squadron-42-is-now-feature-complete-entering-polish-phase-2000129212

"Last year, Cloud Imperium Games' Carl Jones told MCV/Develop that Squadron 42 could still be "one or two years more." So, who knows? Maybe we're finally in the end game for this part of Star Citizen's storied yet controversial development."

Maybe one of the insiders here have an idea how close it is to completion (not sure if they have an NDA or something).

Of course, after all the years of CIG pronouncements, you will have to forgive me if I don't put full credence into any of their leaks.

Though I suspect that the Calders situation may have lit a fire under their slack asses.

I mean for this Citcon it was already clear it's to be about SQ42, and you're not even able to buy it right now, so there's stuff to happen on that front for sure.

Now that doesn't mean much towards release, even with the game with its main feature-set complete, getting it all into a stable, optimized, etc, state is a challange on itself, not anywhere as big of a challenge as trying doing the same with SC obviously

I haven't heard anything of substance since they declared a breakthrough on server meshing.  Still vaporware(in terms of it's grand promises) atm.

    Pre-orders?

More money ? I mean is not like in all this years ( 12? ) they worked from their own money and now they need to make some back.

    ..right?

Oh and..pre-orders! Which will have the Release Date as : TBA , yes?

Just consider yourself lucky SC does not have NFT and crypto, because that is where we are now, crossing our fingers that a new game we are interested in will only have the less abusive revenue methods. Hoping a game is fair when it comes to taking money went out the window so long ago I was still doing 3am all nighters back then. :)

If you cannot throw hundreds of dollars at an alpha product that may be in development for 3 decades and be happy about it then you must ask yourself, "Is gaming for me?".

I would have to ask, "will I live long enough to play the 1.0 release version?

Took 7D2D over 10 years, and it's still not really there yet. In fact, I'm told in the console version it's officially the 1.0 "Beta" version.

They actually have a published road map through the end of 2025 (which they are unlikely to meet) with some features promised back at the Kickstarter so long ago.

So yeah, not quite there yet, and I'm sure they have plans to amp up the monetization model (selling cosmetics in game) before they are done.

Looking up Fun Pimps, it appears that they have around 25 developers, not 700. A small indie team does take a long time to develop a full MMO.
