imagePax Dei Early Access Review | MMORPG.com

Pax Dei has been in early access now for a few weeks, and Bradford has been putting it through its paces. And let's just say, the potential is there - if far off in the distance.

Given the state of the game you qualify this game as a 7? Clearly you are paid to review this game high.

"$40 isn't cheap, let alone $99 - and this is effectively paying for an alpha here. "

But you're not paying for Alpha. You are essentially giving money to the developers with the hopes of getting a game you want. It's just another way of crowd funding. Of course, they are going to give you something for your money so hence access as well as the ear of the developers.

Loved the crafting, hated the fact my EVGA 3080ti and Asus Prime z490-a locked up only for this game in the first beta and EA. Considering I use UR5 with no issues, play new world-oooof, Eve, BDO, Eve Vanguard (UR5), TF2, NMS, ED, HD2, and a ton of other games without a single lock up. I'll wait for it to cook so these issues can be avoided as it does have a ton of potential. I want it to be a good game. But right now, nay. 5.0

Good review. I concur with your overall sentiment. I think it's always been a question of how much "game" is in the game.

My group is still having fun, but I can see the end of the runway approaching after a month. Right now we are roaming the lands and gathering every rare recipe we can find from named mobs. So far, we haven't gone down into the true dungeons yet.

But other than that we have pretty much accomplished all our goals. We have a nicely built home. We have robust crafting stations. We have an array of magic items (and thus spells) available to us. Despite being a pretty small group, our crafters are actually further long in progression than all our neighbors (even the ones that have huge fenced off villages). But with no real economy or market system, there's no real desire to continue crafting items beyond the new recipe or two.

I think it was well worth the $40 and I know this is a game we will come back to repeatedly until launch, but I can see our playtime start to shift as we get to the end of July.

I would say the score is probably somewhat to the high side by a few points because the reviewer didn't have to pay for his copy, but saying he was paid to play crosses the line....

Not only excellent bones of a game if they brush up their coding but I am enjoying it a ton in a guild.

I said this during alpha 2 it was a terrible idea to launch in this state ea. They should have launched backer and did ea 6-12 months from now.

Pro's and Con's, all valid points.

All I can say is I am having a great time in spite of the con's mentioned. In fact I just upgraded to the 2 plot package so I have more room to build!

"Incredibly beautiful World" - IMO this is an understatement. :)

Sounds like a "wait a year to play" game. Hopefully they develop like V Rising and it'll be worth playing eventually.

lol did you forget to add on the CONS the basics in damn near every mmo in this genre ........and if you question it ???? start with friends list , trading , proper storage stacks , dismantling . there is too much wasted time for too little gain . Of course they will add those things but that is the mind game they will play to feed people updates ........

I had high hopes for this game. I still do after reading this review, though my hopes have shifted from "buy early access" to "buy later".

The problem with excellent bones is too often they don't get given enough flesh. We shall see.

I could not work out from the review and posts on the game if it is really "inherently social" or just "better with friends" (a term which for me is now nearly a euphemism for "needs more content")?

It's not currently feasible for a person to solo the game.  You cannot get the recipe drops without a group.  You cannot possibly farm all the materials you would need to level up every crafting skill.  Well, maybe if you started now you could max them in 40 years.

What we are seeing now isn't really even the game though.  Its more like a system test. You can go and harvest, craft, build, PvE, PvP, but there is no economy. No market to sell your wares. No common currency.  No political game which is needed to drive games like EvE.  It's fun.  But a lot of the "game" is yet to come.

The 7.0 is way off the real value and article. Feels paid.

Isn't this game going to be f2p on launch or are they doing box/sub/something? Kinda forgot mostly about this game, ngl
