Keep going Raph! You've got a simple approach to how you explain this complex project. We know it's a long ways off but if developed efficiently and passionately, we can see this could and likely will be something special. Don't let us play until you know it's feature complete.

Every time Goonsquad/SA/DS post salt on Star Citizen, I spend more money on it. Every time a mentally disturbed former backer or Elite CMDR toxic emo comments, I spend more money on it. Every time they refuse to answer why they spend so much time arguing about a game they don't even like, I spend more money on it. Want to watch the world burn because you can't have your way? You got whats coming to you.

One thing I love in these game is mining to great depths.
I want to be down near the fire and ogres.

CardLife did a great job of making me feel like the surface was so very far away.

I'd like more information on mining and underground building for this title.

Very smart move improving those graphic visuals.

Nice improvement but I wonder why they went and announced with the first version if this took just a few weeks to upgrade?

We needed to start testing the game. Which meant we needed to announce in order to get interest to gather up a group of testers. Waiting would actually have worked out at a three month delay. Instead, we're a month into testing, which is great. We don't have infinite money, and have to make forward progress on scalability, networking, and so on. And we also want player input on systems early.

Looks interesting, will keep an eye out for this one and for alphas or betas.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I like the idea of grass freezing over, wish more games addes foliage states as well. Wet grass, snow gradually building on ground, trees, roofs, roads etc. Roads becoming muddy, not just texture wise - but harder to traverse.

Anyways, point is - physics is fun

Now they need to add physics where a player can slip on that ice and fall on their arse. Would be a hoot.

As someone who does not bother too much about animations I am not too excited, but I know many, many gamers who will go on no end about how the grass behaves. I was mostly concerned about the garish colouring, I couldn't be sure about the avatars (too dark) but the landscape seemed to look better?

Anyway looks like SR is shaping up nicely and we have no one posting yet who wants to dismiss the game and everything he has done! Maybe Raph actually knows what he is doing? ;)

Ryzom took this a few steps further. There are 4 seasons, and the foliage changes for each. Snow in the winter, flowers in spring, fall colors in fall, etc. Plus a day/night cycle. Plus weather.

Herds of mobs migrate according to the season. In spring they might be here, but in winter they move off to another area. The carnivores follow their migrations.

Resources are also available depending on season and weather. You might only be able to harvest that particular item in winter at night, for example. Or it's only there in spring when it is raining.

You do slide around on it. You don't fall, at the moment. :)

I have left MMOs, and PC gaming, completely. Not planning on coming back either. If you make a modern day Ryzom however I will gladly change that stance. Very gladly.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I can understand leaving MMOs even though I think its a drastic move, but leaving PC gaming baffles me.

PC gaming simply doesn’t have anything to offer me anymore. All my favorite games are on console as well and I no longer care about the latest technical advancement or best input peripherals ( its a controller Scot, a controller ;) ). I cut down my screen time drastically anyways and found my groove in board gaming mostly. All of it just doesn’t seem that interesting anymore, and that started with MMOs and then spread.

    Raph,

Like what I see so far, but for me one of the important things in a sandbox is mining and underground base building.  Will Star Reach have depth in the planets, or caves/dungeons that can be found and explored?

Al that stuff is great.  And I actually have a very high degree of confidence that you will deliver.  But what is going to make or break the project is whether or not there is an actual game as opposed to a nature/physics sim.

I'm rooting for you, and will be an early backer for sure, but it's a super small needle you have to thread here.

PS:  Again suggest you use MMORPG as a launching ground for some of your outreach.  Let the staff get an exclusive interview each month or two. Do an AMA on here...

    Lot's of possibilities!

Yup. I will paste something from the Discord just now:

My son was watching me dig tunnels and you could see the light turn on when he asked “wait so you could dig your own hobbit hole???” I replied “yep, or make a replica of all of Hobbiton”

A reply from one of our team members:

Not only possible but I was doing something similar yesterday in an internal playtest - I made a secret tunnel base with a little home cavern with a few small rooms, then dug further and made a statue chamber and tried to get other folks to find me. L------ actually succeeded, and R------ cheated and teleported to me via dev command and dug a new exit out of my tunnel to the surface, which caused dirt to spill in and kill L------ on the way out and nearly trapped me in. I don't even like building or digging in games usually

No question. We aren't testing that stuff yet, but that's what we have built atop the sim. Today in the playtest the final moments saw the testers exterminated by carpet bombing skysharks. They tried to fight them off with heat and cold beams, but we hadn't given them weapons...

I signed up to test this as soon as I could. Once I saw Raph was in charge, it was 100% trust from me. I just really trust that the guy knows what gamers (and MMO players) want/need.

So far, I really like what I see.

Carpet bombing skysharks sounds like a deleted scene in 'Under Paris".

I have no issues with controllers these days, maybe I will do a thread about that sometime. I have had to cut down my own screen time but did this by just playing on the PC less. Anyway keep us updated on what you are playing, after all in a few years time it could be on the PC for me to play. :)
