Guess not that many people wanted Final Fantasy May Cry as they thought, but I guess we'll see how 16 performs next quarter thanks to the pc release. On a more positive note, I think their financial numbers will be more frontheavy going forward since they dont want to have any more exclusives.

Huh, who would have thought intentionally holding back a new game from 3/4ths of your potential customers wasn't a winning strategy?

The problem wasn't the games or the exclusivity. It's the PS5 has not been made the standard console generation despite it being 4 years old now. Most people I talk to are still playing on a PS4 because it hasn't been worth it to upgrade for the handful of exclusive games, while at the same time developers had to throttle specs to fit the PS4.

The PS4 should have been phased out 2-3 years ago.

How reasonable were the expectations in the first place? I have the feeling they were crazy high so they could lay people off then get a bonus for "saving money" when the shareholders got annoyed.

This is always the issue with Square. Tomb Raider sold like 3.5 million copies in 2 weeks and it didn't meet their expectations either.

This and the fact it's not available on PC yet. I am an old fart I don't buy consoles just for exclusive games and I think there's more like me than not.

It's not that I have anything against consoles but the last one I bought was the PS3 and it was wasted money as it was hardly used and is collecting gust in my sons room right now.

The price of PC's and consoles is just too jacked up high so if I have to choose it will be PC everyday and all day long.

7 was a hope nostalgia bait would pull in people and it didn't. 16 made too many poor choices with its mechanics and deciding FF didn't need to be turn based for some reason (money). I'm glad they didn't sell well.

That's ashame, 16 was great. The story was top notch, it deserves to be successful.

Let's see ... ff15 totally abandoned all semblance of the FF gameplay its fans have grown to love ... FF16 drifted even further from that standard ... anyone who disliked 15 could play the demo for 16 and see that it was FF in name only.

I really don't understand where these high expectations came from. Anyone could have predicted this. The real fans of Final Fantasy do not want games like this.

I know FF14 players worship Yoshi-P as a god, but I feel like his understanding of the magic of the franchise and his ability to produce a good game are extremely overrated. He may be good at getting the job done, but that doesn't mean he creates a good product.

I just got the 2 FF7 remakes from Green Man Gaming for 60 % off but unhappy that it is not turn based. I was unhappy with Atelier Ryza too that went ATB too. Sad they abandoned turn based combat.

I'd bet that a good revamp; not complete, total re imagining that ruins the ip, but a good clean, updated version of 6 would go a Lot further than they think.

I have a long list of games to play before I get to this one but its great it on PC now...thing is lots of the hype has went down this long after its initial release.

As for the rest of your comment this PC "kid" is an old fart so I dunno what you were trying to say with this comment tbh but you keep on being your best self!

I also agree with what elric of melnibone is saying in that they have strayed quite a bit from what made FF the success it is.  btw @elric I like the name, haven't read those books in a long, long time.

I think the era of platform exclusivity needs to end, more and more people I know who used to love console have migrated to PC for gaming, and nobody cares about that type of competition anymore, they just want games to be available on their preferred platform.

Part of the issue, aside from exclusivity, is the "expectations" factor. There is a sickness is corporate culture that they expect every new project to make MORE and MORE money. They're not satisfied if a game is just "successful". They're not satisfied if it makes profit, unless it's MORE profit than the last one.

This is why AAA studios keep releasing the same kinds of things over and over, with as much risk aversion as possible. They want guaranteed big money. But, frankly, the actualy GAMERS get sick of being fed basically the same experience over and over again, no matter how pretty.

So, just accept your profits, and be content with it. And if you want to be the "next big thing", you're going to have to go out on a limb CREATIVELY (not just by throwing more money at it for the prettiest new thing). Gamers are more diverse, and probably smarter than they give them credit for being.
