That has to be the one of the least informative “announcements “ any company has put out.

I had high hopes for this game to be my PvE fix, but this is a total clusterf&$k.

I made the same pledge and have been playing this current season. Yes I know it is in Alpha stages, but it is still a hot mess from a game that has been in design for over 10 years. I agree with Blueliner, this game will not last long. It is not fun to play and there is very little content. They are mainly focusing the content on group play, so if you are mainly a solo player with limited time, this game may not be for you.

Its a total disappointment from the original excitement and optimism i had for this game.

Even after everything (Brad's passing, the coding issues, the funding issues, the constant rewrites and delays) up until earlier this year I still had that small little ember of hope that they could deliver, you know when your brain is telling you no chance but for some reason, maybe because of Brad / Everquest you still think it may happen.

I looked it up. Its not even the standard EA you see from games. There will be wipes "as needed" is what the info says. Its more or less in Alpha stages. Im a backer and can get in for free and I think I am not even going to log in. Starting Dec I can play Ashes of Creation 5 days a week in their A2.

My thoughts are, its much more likely Ashes launches and I think this is Pantheons last ditch effort to get some money from what they have built so far, before they close the doors. Maybe wrong but thats my feeling. Also considering the fact, they had to fire staff to get the money they needed to launch this EA.

Idk about Ashes....sure they'll have a more playable alpha period (assuming it doesn't get delayed again) but their 'big brother' SC has been in alpha for God knows how long. Ashes could be in alpha for the next 5-10 years lol.

The mmorpg genre just feels 'stuck' for a while. The next 'big' mmorpg is Throne and Liberty from NCSoft of all people (luckily being managed by AGS, which lets admit is far better at publishing vs NCSoft at least). BP died (dont think that was ever going to be 'big' anyway, but it was something), Pax Dei fell off of alot of people's radars, Chrono Odessey and AA2 are going to be published by Kakao (which only currently has mobile titles), so its really just expansions for a while at this point for existing stuff.

    What disappointment?

    The Art Style change?
-That they went from storefront art assets that would run like a hot mess with more than twenty people on a server to their own homegrown art which is expandable and runs on low (and I mean Low) end equipment at 30 fps?

    The development time?

I suggest you check into game development and how much it costs to develop these things and give it a good ole cross reference and compare their funding and development time to something, I dunno, say Grand Theft Auto 6.

how long has that been in development? and can you have played that for 50 bucks for the past year?

A lot of you negative posters (and streamers) don't realize it yet but a lot of us old school gamers can actually sense the Activision-Blizzard deposits in your bank accounts as you fire up your sock puppets.

Cmon, you well know why some backers are disappointed over the lack of progression and multiple changes in direction.

This game is totally beneath Activision /Blizzards notice as it's mostly a rounding error when it comes to being a competitor in the MMORPG space.

Besides, all my checks come from Microsoft these days.

I am sorry but the whole graphical change, spell graphics change, character/model animation changes, I just can't get into this anymore. I was excited for this but I just cant get into it anymore. I think the changes they've made are going to turn away a lot of people

Yes, the art style change is one of the disappointments, although art is subjective, the fact the new art may run smoother doesn’t negate the fact it’s a disappointment. I guess the fact that they built a game that cannot run with half decent art assets is the supporter’s fault?

As far as the development time it obviously varies per game, per studio, per genre, per investment, many factors. To compare an indie attempted Kickstarter MMORPG to Grand Theft Auto 6 development time is a fallacy to begin with. Have you purchased access before to a GTA auto game while it was in development to keep Rockstar Games afloat?

Although I didn’t play it past the campaign GTA 5 has made what close to 10 BILLION dollars, I can see why they are taking their time on the follow up since the previous game is still making money, also have they given even a hint at a release date for GTA 6?

A more apt comparison would be Camelot Unchained a fellow indie MMORPG that had a Kickstarter, is a very long development cycle and yes you can *play* (use the term very loosely) that (or the Final Stand Ragnarök) for $50 to $60. It’s a disappointment as well.

As far as the last bit about sensing Activision / Blizzard bank deposits I honestly don’t know which interpretation I find more laughable. The fact you think I may be a paid Microsoft / Activision / Blizzard employee with 200 odd posts in 15 years or the fact that you think Microsoft / Activision / Blizzard would bother hiring anyone to downplay an indie MMORPG with a studio that is barely treading water financially.

Yeah, Pantheon is going to be a real WoW killer we better call out the whole team /s

Indeed. And it's a big point of contention among the community to call it an EA. Most agree calling it an EA is a mistake when in actuality it's entering alpha phase. Joppa keeps saying this isn't a soft launch but a majority view EA as just that. I'm guessing 99% of people who are willing to spend money to try Pantheon have already done so. Entering a pseudo EA phase won't bring in much money is my prediction.

It's a sad move thinking gamers would not see through this. They would have done better being honest. We get enough people playing, we can finsh this game. Is the approach I would have went. Gamers respond to honesty. Just ask Ubisoft.

I logged into the last free/open "test" they had.

    It was horrendous.

That has nothing to do with "negative posters".  It has to do with the product being utter crap.

Dark Age of Camelot: $2.5 million, 25 developers, 18 months (1)

I'm not sure the GTA 6 reference is doing you any favors, since it hasn't released yet.  It appears that it costs a great deal of money to not release a game whereas not quite so much money to actually get the job done.

Trying to justify Pantheon's development timeline by citing another poorly run project is silly.
