Same, I avoid FP games these days b/c they cause motion sickness. At least third person you can see more around and behind you. Not only that I don't see how immersive it is when you got someone else's hands flying around on your screen.
If it's first-person only, I won't even consider playing. First-person games literally make me vomit. This is a physiological reality, not a preference, not something I can learn to like or control.
FP in general drastically reduces the value of a game to me. As in, I'm willing to pay less than half. Because I do not like it, and I view it as a drastically inferior experience.
It's interesting how many responses to this are people that get motion sick with first person games. I don't think I know that many people at all who have that problem.
Add me to the motion sick list. It can happen in 3rd person too and if there is no button to turn off motion blur, its a no-go. The worst recently was Once Human. I was fine except in dark buildings with the flashlight. And the one that makes me the maddest is Elden Ring, no can play.

Well, I'm ANOTHER one. There are plenty of people who get nauseous trying to play 1st person games. The tiny view is unnatural, the movement isn't smooth enough, and if you try to stretch FoB to make it wider, it just creates distortions and doesn't help.
Not sure how many people you know, but many people have this issue.

I think it has more to do with the average age of the forum probably.

Age is often a factor. My dad gets motion sickness from first person. As well as a small number of third person games with high camera sensitivity (ie: Kingdoms of Amalur).
Funny thing about this forum vs say the 7D2D reddit. The game only has FP view yet rarely have I ever seen such complaints about people getting ill over its perspective.
Perhaps those with motion sickness know well in advance the game won't be for them hence very few complaints about such on the sub.

3rd person or I'm not interested... motion sickness is one aspect, but also Transmog/Glamour is the 'real' end-game for most MMOs.. and if you can't view your own toon, why bother?
I can go either way. Indiana Jones is first person and it's great. I play NMS in third person. If there is a lot of visual character customization then I'm probably inclined to third person. It really depends on the game for me.

Most likely they have shitty monitors with low refresh rate / frames.
I find it hard there's gamers here who didn't got hooked playing some Wolfenstein, D00M, Quake, Half Life, Tribes, Unreal ??
Anyome growing up playing those fast paced fps games didn't suffer motion sickness then and most likely doesn't now.
Maybe they nolifed Ultima and ignored the FPS craze and are now paying for that sin

Well that is very assertive for something you can't possibly know. Then again why bother with facts when you can just spew ill informed opinion. It doesn't seem to have done the modern world any harm.

You're ill informed. The problem always lay with FOV and things like motion blur and head bob. If these three things can either be increased or turned off in many games the problem can be reduced. The motion sickness is very real and pretty bad, headaches lasting for hours to vomiting.
So when you have no idea about what your talking about it is best to not to give your opinion on it. Older games have many, many posts about this issue. You're simply unaware because it was never a problem that affected you so you never looked for a solution.
I have however since I suffer from it. Glad to see games like Cyberpunk 2077 addressing it and various newer games allowing me to set FOV to 120 to help and turn off head bob, truly the biggest culprit. Boggles me when games do not allow me to turn it off.
The best part is that some advice to lower the refresh rate so you were completely wrong there too talking about higher refresh rates.
The screen you’re playing your favourite game on can make a big difference. You’ll need to check your screen’s settings and potentially skew them a little, to improve your overall experience.
If you have very high refresh-rate displays, this can make you feel nauseous. To prevent this sickly feeling, adjust your display to something much slower, or reduce the frames-per-second. Also, look into changing the sensitivity settings on your game; this will really help improve your gaming experience.
Like @ValdemarJ I
prefer choosing the option based on the game so it’s great when both are
available for selection.
Luckily for
me I don’t get motion sickness, but I know people that do. Even something
simple like sitting in the backseat of a vehicle instead of the front can
trigger it for them.

Elucidate us then, did you suffered from motion sickness all your life? How did that affected your gaming tastes? Were you forced to skip every FPS game? Best way to mitigate the effects?

Sure some people will have more intolerance than others. But aspects like FOV, Motion Blur, and smooth FPS can be tweaked in most modern games already. My question is if it's something that one has since birth and can "train" the brain to get used to by playing or if that intolerance can develop due to age.
Curiously some of the most famous gaming elders both play first person games.
As for topic at hand MMORPG's with good implementations of 3rd & first person view option...
Darkfall and ESO comes to mind.
Imo, from a immersion point FPS will always be superior but to pull that off graphics and detail might have to go up a notch and skyrocket the costs. For gameplay, unless it's precise shooting gameplay 3rd person wins for space awareness and gameplay readabiliy.
Destiny and Overwatch have some smooth blend of going out of 1stP to 3rd person too.
As babunix has said, have the people complaining about 1st person ever played any of the shooters from the early days? Maybe they haven’t? But if they did then I find it hard to believe that today’s games would give you trouble unless of course something changed since then.

Probably because some of my first games, once I started playing in earnest, were 1st person.
