It was in the news, front page, or wherever of this site. Most of these I think my choices were runner up or not what I would have picked but understand why they were.
Yeah was a form from a few weeks ago, voted only in the categories where i had played or at least watched one of the options being played so missed a few of them.
There was an Other category too for most sections to write in whatever game, which i failed to take advantage of.
I think the Other option was there so @lotrlore could try and convince people Solitaire was the best game.
Was another terrible year for MMO's. The choices were bad. Maybe a majority of people did what I did and just randomly picked. This is how it ended up.

Look, Solitaire is incredible.
And yea, it was posted a few weeks back, and we even extended the voting (the winners were originally meant to be posted last Friday), which we announced across our social media channels last week. But this is good feedback, and hopefully we'll have a cost-effective way to get our newsletter back up and running finally if that is one of the main ways people were reminded of this back in the day.
In nearly every category, I thought, "That can't be right." And then I'd try to think of other options in that category and get all depressed at the state of gaming.
Then I noticed how most of the categories seemed a bit forced, as if someone were trying to find reasons to mention their favorite games by creating categories that could have only one or two real competitors. That made me feel better, if slightly annoyed.
However, there's no way Erdtree and Dragon's Dogma 2 are better games than Metaphor. That's just crazy talk.

Never heard of metaphor so I looked it up. Aesthetically, to my taste, both Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Shadow of the Erdtree are far superior but that’s a taste I guess thing.
Still, if you give it high praise I’ll have to try it.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

The demo makes it pretty risk-free to try, and the progress will carry over if you decide to buy it.

Personally, my GOTY.
Just FYI, a lot of this year's games have demos with carryover progress. Metaphor, Unicorn Overlord, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Trails Through Daybreak, Ys X Nordics, Romancing Saga 2 Remake, Saga Emerald Beyond, and Stellar Mid. There's also games like Visions of Mana with no progress carryover.
And I'm probably forgetting some. It was a good year.

And here I am, newly retired going into 2025 so definitely will be trying some of the above mentioned demos, thanks for sharing.

Well then, highly recommended by you both and a demo? Done and done!
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Honestly, I don't think there has ever been a year with hotter competition for my GotY.
Metaphor absolutely deserves it. It's even better than Persona 5, another one of my top 5-10 games of all time.
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth would have also been a strong contender in a normal year. So much so in fact that Yakuza Like a Dragon was my GotY in its year.
Last Epoch has performance issues, but it basically answers the question of "what if I personally designed a video game." Meaning, if they stick with it and build on it, it could become one of my top 5, easily.
I haven't gotten to FF7 Rebirth yet, but I loved FF7 Remake enough that it was my GotY of its year.
Ultimately, I gave it to Unicorn Overlord. A new, beautiful IP and the best strategy RPG in damn near 20 years. A game which rekindled my passion for a genre that has suffered years of mixed quality FE releases, incapable of living up to the franchise's glory days, and lackluster competition.

It was a survey posted on the site a couple of weeks ago, so...us.
I think the choices made sense even though I would not have picked all of them.

I just wish 2024 was a better year for MMORPG. Been wishing that like for 10 years.

That came out last year.
Maybe it will win "most improved RPG" or "best update" or something next year, after all those sweet new subclasses are added
Still, if you give it high praise I’ll have to try it.
