    You have to remember that WoW launched 20 years ago. Back then software and hardware required to do the kind of database tracking that is nowadays norm would have been so expensive that using it in a game would have been impractical.

    It's good if Ashes is doing good job tracking stuff, but for an MMO that launches maybe around 2027, it's not really that unique or special.
    I dont disagree but it is still not the norm for even AAA studios. Gamers talk about MMOs not taking any action on things like duping or bots. Why? It cuts into their bottom dollar. New World is famous for letting duping run rampant. Will be interesting to see in the coming weeks what this looks like with Ashes. If what they said about having better data reporting then anyone.

    I'm just gonna say I'm skeptical as to this day I haven't seen anywhere that shows the amount of "referral" credit generated.  They promised this years and years ago, and delayed and delayed.

    Look, I hope you are right because this audience will absolutely abuse the crap out of exploits and dupes.  And if they can track it and have the balls to BAN the offenders it would be fantastic.

    Pretty clear if they can go back to each point easily and see a dup, then they wouldnt be banning innocent people.  There is zero reason to ban innocent people if you know exactly when the dup happens and by whom.

    So its not about having their reporting 100% nailed down.  If they are banning innocent people it means they are guessing and that the information is not percise enough to determine a dup from a non dup or they cant determine when it occured.

    If they cant figure that out, then how are they going to ban a bunch of people at release based on assumptions.

    Sounds like this tech isnt working or people are ALL lying about being innocent.

    Something I had to share. The PvP is reminding me of DAoC days when people were invested in the war. When things were personal over just PvP advanments. Drama is happing on a server level. To the point on my server every guild banded together and declared guild war on one single guild for being a server bad guy. From the posts I'm reading, our server is not the only server that's having drama. It's creating some real content. Many are calling it the Game of Thrones MMO.

    Shadowbane was the first thing to come to mind.

    When I joined Shadowbane (after being griefed in other games) I decided to join the biggest group of jackasses on the server.  They'd grabbed all the prime land and seemed invincible up until the rest of the server had enough - and then I logged onto ruins one day.  Justice done.

    That is the dream we're sold, until most of the guild quits and the game degenerates into everyone being very careful about who to attack and how much damage is permissible.  That sounds like politics - but it quickly becomes about taking care to not cause the opposition to quit.

    I ended up in The Tribunal, another well organized and powerful guild, and eventually we destroyed a fun rival guild's capital city, and they quit, and the game soon went offline.  There was much discussion up front about how far to take the war, with the chief concern being how much we should pull our punches for fear of driving away players.

    The thing that surprised me most about PvP in these games is the really good leadership is working closely with the "enemy" to keep the game alive - because if you set out to actually conquer - it eventually happens, and people leave in droves.

    AoC sounds identical to early Shadowbane.
    I see no reason why the end result will be any different.

    At the moment Ashes has only small number of players who paid most for the game, and who are also less concerned about their personal progress since it's going to be wiped anyway.

    The community after release is likely to be very different.

    At the end of the day it's one and the same. It was the eternal 3 realm war that gave the DAoC community Realm Pride and a reason to fight.  To this day I hate those dirty Albs and filthy Mids. FFA Territory control game have a natural tendency to foster blob alliances.  Nothing that happens in an Alpha is really going to be a real test.  Once a group has invested months of time building up a node, they are going to ally up with half the server to protect it.  Thats my guess.  We shall see.

    Ya I get that. Being an old School Ab-Minstrel it warms my heart to see people PvPing because they are invested. What comes later, it a wait and see.

    Phase two has turned out to be a mess. 1/2 the servers with twice the population. So from 3k a server to 6k. Server stability is what's expected. Rough for the most part. Laggy, very persistent crashing is being reported. That's fine, that's growing pains I would expect.

    What is the pain is the desert (3 new nods added) is not as flushed out as the arera we have been playing is. No events, very few mobs and not much of the way of camps and dungeons. People are so starving for camps and dungeons its ended up people just layering teams on camps 2 to 3teams deep everywhere just trying to kill steal mobs. Just not fun.

    PvP and grefing still is not the issue people made it out to be. Still mostly the game has been PvP free but for sanctioned PvP events. New one added with current Phase 2. Node wars. Much like New World attackers and defenders get to pick a pool of who plays the event. Will report when partake.

    Teaming still stays at the best experience I have played since EQ1. When playing in a balanced team, the game so shines. 

    If anyone remembers the grinds in ESO on the public events with the chain things that come from the sky. With it hard to find places to team. People are playing public events running from one to the next to do their best to get exp. I was running with a pack of 200+ players doing this. It's not how I personally want to play.

    My hope is to keep us testing camps and dungeons become the focus. Node progression makes this type of content spawn and is part of phase two. So all this maybe cleaned up quickly when phase 4 of nodes start to happen in the next week or so. Does not change that the launch game is rough and not enough content for the players currently playing. Game launch would make this worse. Looking to see if IS address this. Now would be the time.

    I thought the PVP existed to solve the issue of people kill stealing your mobs / taking your camp.

    The flagging system has left the people PKing to be a limited few. There is greifers are still there but mostly controllable. Like people training people, you can just CC them so they die to the train they were going to use to kill people. Since phase 1 I have only encountered PvP once when we were not looking to. Also when someone PKs its just to easy to kill and loot them for glint and crafting supplies and free gear.

    That said.  The game is a mess.  Server issues, broken quests, all that stuff.  But I still am having fun.  Played Cleric in Phase 1. Liked it a lot (despite lots of issues with the mechanics), tried to go Bard for this wave, but I just couldn't get into it.  Supposed to be a great class but so far, not for me.  Now I'm on mage.  Nice to blow things up, but Cleric is still better.  I'll stick with it for a bit though.

    Teaming still stays at the best experience I have played since EQ1. When playing in a balanced team, the game so shines. 

    If anyone remembers the grinds in ESO on the public events with the chain things that come from the sky. With it hard to find places to team. People are playing public events running from one to the next to do their best to get exp. I was running with a pack of 200+ players doing this. It's not how I personally want to play.

    My hope is to keep us testing camps and dungeons become the focus. Node progression makes this type of content spawn and is part of phase two. So all this maybe cleaned up quickly when phase 4 of nodes start to happen in the next week or so. Does not change that the launch game is rough and not enough content for the players currently playing. Game launch would make this worse. Looking to see if IS address this. Now would be the time. 

    You mentioned it was still mainly PVP free except for sanctioned events. Is it disabled by the dev's or just an unspoken agreement.

    I thought the PVP existed to solve the issue of people kill stealing your mobs / taking your camp.
    The flagging system has left the people PKing to be a limited few. There is greifers are still there but mostly controllable. Like people training people, you can just CC them so they die to the train they were going to use to kill people. Since phase 1 I have only encountered PvP once when we were not looking to. Also when someone PKs its just to easy to kill and loot them for glint and crafting supplies and free gear.

    I have been playing 6 weeks 5-10hrs a week. Just speaking to my experience. Talking to my guild of 300ish players. PKers are not a problem. Greifers are and that's in all games, even ones without PvP. If they become a problem I will report that in a heartbeat. You are right things are 100% a mess right now. Phase 1 they had server stability fixed within a week. I'm giving them 2 weeks. If it's good or bad I will report that.

    Still 100% in the camp, playing in a balanced team. Even if not a full group. I have not had this much fun since 1999 EQ1. Combat is by far the best I have seen of old school classes in 20 years. If you like the old school class system of tank, DPS, Heals and support. There is no polished game that's doing it better in 20 years. Still lacking many things and needs lots of work. If the game releases under 2 years, I would be shocked.

    I think it's also important to point out that your view is from a guild of 300 players.  That is potentially quite a different view than random guy logging in.   That doesn't invalidate the point of view at all, but it gives context.

    It could well be that even those who don't want to play the world domination game will have to eventually join zerg guilds. We will see how it develops over the next few years.
