Word of mouth works in most cases for this game. I recently convinced a friend to try it, and he is was addicted just from playing a few hours a week on my account. He got his own account, and his character and a newbie character of mine have been doing quests like crazy over the past few weeks. We've already done lots of newb quests, the living weapons quest, drudge championship belt, crown of bone, virindi spells, bunny master quest, various other title quests, and the rat catcher quest. We are still planning on doing fenmalain, Asheron's Raiment, quiddity orb, olthoi armor, and the ice sword in the short term. We are trying to do every quest we can find, and it is taking up more of our time than leveling. My goal is to do every quest in this game, but I'm still incredibly far from that goal.

Yeah. They've got a ton of quests out there for AC1. A lot of cool places too. I've hunted anything from shadows in the dark caverns like the fenmalain (sp?) vestibule to slithis tendrils (I think is their name) that are like giant tentacles that spawn on the beaches and in the water of one of the islands. I know my bro and one of his friends stayed up for like 24+ hours straight one time playing this game solid.
It's definitely a cool game. If you want game depth, stay away from foci packs and prismatic tapers. Buy all of the spell components (everyone needs magic in this game if they want to be independent of buff bots) separately and research the spells yourself. It's pretty cool researching them. Just takes a while.
I liked the spell research system that they had in place. I also like the salvaging and tinkering system they have (quite in depth) and fun to hoard bags of fire opal and the like for treasure or just work on your armor/weapons/magic items if you have much of a tinkering skill. Still, you'd have to get scrolls of level 7 spells. Don't believe you can research those.
The world is also very expansive and I've never run into a single instance the whole time I've played. Hopefully that won't change. The world was so large that the populace was suffering after the release of the newer games. I don't know how it is any more though. It was hard to come by much of anybody though when I quit. Towns that were once main centers of civilization became ghost towns. The only thing this game really needs to bring it back is a good player base.

The places where people hang out have changed, but I don't think the population of the game is low. You always see people in Shoushi, Holtburg, or the marketplace. Like I said, you want more people in the game, use word of mouth.

Or Turbine could get off their lazy ass and make a free trial. That's the only thing that will extend AC1's life.
A complete overhaul of the graphics to make it look AC2/DDO/LotrO would be the best life saver but that isn't going to happen.
Word of mouth doesn't really do any good if you can't buy the game anyplace
I think you can download it, but if you're talking about the expansion... then I'm not really sure what to say.

You keep telling us that CD keys will be available soon. When is soon?
Unfortunately as of right now I cannot give you a solid date, I wish I could but there are several factors that come into play when getting this done. The first issue is compatibility. In order to do this one of the first things we needed to do was make a new installer. This new game installer will allow everyone to download the latest version of the game. This will include users of the new Windows OS. Now in order to make sure that these systems all work we need to test the installer several times under many different circumstances. This takes some time to complete.
The next thing we have to do is generate the CD keys themselves and make sure they work with our billing system. After that is done the system for distributing the keys must be tested and retested to make sure that everything is working correctly. After that is done then the secure page for these transactions must be made. After all of that is completed, we test everything again, just to be sure. Then we will be able to release the keys for everyone to purchase and use. This is not a process we are going to rush into without taking the needed steps to make sure everything is secure and working correctly.
That all being said, we are very close to having all of this completed, and as soon as I have a concrete date for when the sales will begin, I will make sure to have announcements everywhere we can put them. On a side note about this, as many have posted, the Turbine store recently ran out of stock of ToD. An order has been placed recently and more copies will be in stock within a week or so. Once the stock has been refilled, all orders will be sent out.

When I convinced a friend, he was actually able to find the game at a local EBgames.
It's funny that AC is the only item in the Turbine store.
I even dont know wtf is this game~~~
Well, not sure what happened. I tried to reply to this topic, but it didn't work. I'll attempt to recreate my inspired pros. 8p
I started playing this again after a 1 1/2 year absence. It is still the best game I've played bar none. I've tried COH, AO, UO, DDO beta, Guildwars, DAOC, WWII OL, Horizons, just to name a few.
The only way this game will not go into a trash heap is to attract new players. Especially ones who have never heard of it. They need to be able to sell this game as a download, and get it into stores. But, that isn't the complete answer. IMO, they need to open up 2 "worlds", that only NEW accounts can access to creat Toons. The reason they need to do this is to separate the players that have been playing for 5 years from newbies. One of the worlds needs to be PK, while the other needs to be for Carebears. This separation will help them so they won't be competing for "prime killing spots" or on the pk world by a ton of lvl 200 super ganks. (I don't mind getting owned after starting up on Darktide again after my absence, but a newb might).
I know some or even most of the old timers might buy a new account so they can spread to the new worlds, but at least their characters won't be there. Their knowledge might give them a slight advantage, but with the tons of info on different sites telling players where the quests are and what you get from them, etc. that advantage lessens.
I hope Turbine has a plan, b/c this is a gem of a game and happens to be my favorite out of all them I have tried.
Next week we will release all of the details for where and how you can purchase the CD keys. Included in the information we will provide, will be the cost and a link to the purchase page.
All of us here are really excited to be able to offer Throne of Destiny to players in a way that will make it easy to purchase and play the game.
