Need Help, My First Time

PetticrewPetticrew Member Posts: 10

I need some help with a few things:

1. Class?

2. Profession?

3 Anything else?

I plan to start playing EQ2 next month when I return home,  I've only played EQ2 for a few hours.

What I want to know is what class should I start with?  For my first character I want to beable to go through the game and learn the basics as well as the complex things.  What I mean by that is, I want a class that others want in there parties so looking for them are easy.  I'm not really concerned about how powerful the class is, This will be my (Utility?) class. and learning class.

For my profession I just want the same thing some that can help others so I can learn how the profession system works.

The last thing is if any other additional information you can give would be great.  Thanks

This link has a good overview of each class.  Class and profession are the same thing.

To play a class that is generally wanted for groups, the some sort of Priest would be your choice, as everyone wants a healer to keep them alive.  They function fairly basically, when in a group, you heal and heal some more.  All Priests have many buffs that are beneficial for the party.  You could start with a Warden.  THey are "defensive healers" and have many party buffs.

You will also have a choice of race, but that doesn't matter for gameplay.  Each class may have slightly different starting stats, but over time that will be overcome by equipment upgrades.

The game has a nice tutorial that teaches you the basics of gameplay.  You could actually try several different classes to find one that suits you.

Bottom line, pick a class that is fun for you.  It will ensure a rewarding game experience.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out in a minute.  But I do have one question that has probably been answered on more than one occasion.

I'm also thinking of playing Everquest 1.  What's is the big difference in the games besides the graphics?

There are many differences, but here are just a few.

    Content:

EQ1 has been around for 7+ years and has a ton of expansions and extra geography.  Even though EQ1 still has a loyal following, most of the players are high end raiders.  Since the game is tough for a low-medium level single player, it is difficult to find a group, and many zones are empty.

EQ2 has been around since NOV '04 and has only 2 expansions, so content and geography is smaller.  There are many new players in almost every zone.

    Spells:

To obtain a spell in EQ1, you must go to a merchant to buy the spell, and you don't always get a new spell with each level.  In EQ2, when you level (each level you get a new spell), you automatically gain the new spell and it is ready for use.  Also, spells in EQ2 can be upgraded to more powerful versions.

    Combat:

The combat and spell mechanics of the game are also different.  In EQ1, you can have only 8 (or is it 9?) spell icons available, requiring you to be selective about what combat spells you have, somewhat similiar to Guild Wars.  In EQ2 you can have many more hotbars up with as many spells, abilities, and skills as you want - I use 6 hotbars, each with 12 buttons.

Run speed is also different.  EQ1 has fast speed buffs allowing you to easilly outrun a mob.  When you engage in combat in EQ2, your run speed is severely reduced making a more dangerous fleet.

    Agro:

Iin EQ1, when you agro a mob, it will chase you all over the zone and not give up until you zone out.   EQ2 mobs will give up after some distance, turn non-agro, and return to their original position.

EQ1 mobs are very social - if you agro one and it runs past another, it will agro that one creating the familiar train of mobs coming at you.  Most mobs in EQ2 are not "social-agro".  Meaning, you can pull a single from a group of singles.  EQ2 mobs also have groups, where many mobs will be linked together.  So if you pull one, the others will also come after you.

Thank You very much on your expertise.  From the sounds of it EQ1 is dying out and getting outdated buy EQ2.  Maybe I'll see you on your server soon. :)
