I chose 6-8mths. Why? I am just thinking that there are enough suckers in this world of ours to make it last that long.
I actually cannot belive soem people even state this game is better than ShadowBane! I played SB for the 1st month of it and I enjoyed that better than my whole D&L Experience. I actually enjoyed my 1 mth in SB than my 9 hrs in SWG Beta and teh 1 hr I tried it again just prior to NGE.
I also enjoyed Saga of Ryzom Beta better than D&L.
Hmm, I think the only other game I really did not like was Mourning Beta, Irth Online Beta and RYL. But ya, there are enough suckers in our world to make it last at least 6-8 months. Some people are not even planning to check out D&L until around 6-8 months down the line also.
A game that wasn't complete at release. A game that didn't live up to its promises. A game with terrible lag and now very outdated graphics.
The only MMORPG in which you can play a dragon, and the combat system totally sucks BUT they boast a good crafting system... Yes you too can play a mammoth fire-breathing flying lizard who goes cross-eyed sitting on his tail all day long with a pair of knitting needles clasped in his forepaws.
An MMORPG doesn't need to be decent to stay alive. I mean, the company just has to go bankrupt, buy itself back, and then keep just enough employees on the payroll to maintain the server.
Customer support? Who needs it?!
Up-to-date graphics - boo to you. You just boast of your fine features like:
Choose your own name!
Pay by credit card!!
Open chat channels!!!
Players can alter the weather!!!! Oh no wait, they can't!!!!! And we never said they could!!!!!!
They'll never topple Blizzard, but there are so many dodgy ways a company can stay alive. All they need is a small playerbase and it sounds like they have that.
Very hard to say. I went with 5 months, because that seems the longest outside stretch they could keep running given their current state of affairs. If they institute patchs which frak up the game into a worse state than it is now, lower estimate to 3.
You have 3 types of MMORPG players: The Hardcore, The Casual, and Huckleberrys. The Huckleberry is too emotionally invested in the promises he has been told over and over again to go down serenly or even with a final moment of clarity. With every new promise, every new patch that makes any corrections (corpses should now be lootable, deer will no longer spawn under water, etc.), The Huckleberry will raise his fervered arms to the heavens right before he lowers his fingers to the keyboard so he can tell all Teh H8Ters: 'SEE! LOOK UPON THE MAJESTY OF MY GAME OF CHOICE AND WEEP, OH UNBELIEVERS!
Years later he will still curse the day the game servers were shut down. 'IT WAS ALMOST FIXED!' he'll tell anyone who will listen.
I think this game has enough Huckleberrys for 5 months.
Dark and light. Npcube made up so much bull about it, i was actuall obssessed with it for like 6months and when i got into beta i started crying almost out of excitement. Played for a little and never played it again.
lol I love the Huckleberry nomer. I hope it sticks. I'm going to start using it for all the mindless lemmings who rubberneck our roads. Oh and Ill use it for the people that will stop on the sidewalk and look up because someone else is looking up -when one by one an entire herd of Huckleberries are formed. lol Could I also apply it to the WoW playerbase lol Just kidding on that one. I played WoW too - I feel so silly now, as if I was staring up at the sky just becuase someone else was staring up at the sky. lol
rofl how some ppl always repeate same kind of topics.
A few months ago most of "hate bois" predicted that it will flop before Aprils release, its greate to see how some of you are changing tactics now and giving it even more time.
This is the one thing many of the haters are wrong about.
This game can continue for a long time the way it is. The promise of potential it has will be enough to keep many people there for a long time. I wish I could still buy into this thinking, but this company does not tell anyone what it has omitted... or what it plans on implementing in the near future.
Everyone is speculating and hoping that whatever bothers them most will be fixed soon, but that is a horrible way to approach the future of a game... with no input or response from the developers whatsoever.
If things don't get much better within the next 2 freebie months for pioneers i will expect to see people running away fast. Then there is maybe 3-4000 subscribers left and in a world this big that is not enough to support it so after that the wheels will start spinning fast.
Plus pioneers can choose to become freedom packers after their first 2 freebie months if they want. That means they don't have to pay anything at all but can stay in the game with that character they have created in 2 months.Sure they don't get to visit newly opened kingdoms for free and other things but they can still play for free. Not a very smart move by Farlan because they still have to pay for the servers and traffic.
I wouldn't be surprised if it went the same way Horizons has gone. Drops down to about 10K subscribers, survives a Chapter 11 reorganisation, comes under the aegis of a dummy company to avoid creditors and survives mainly as its cult following won't let it die.
If I was this Farlan dude, I'd be on the phone to David Bowman ASAP to find out how it's done.

I act like a Huckleberry. I love it. Thanks.
More then a year. They will have free trials very very soon and try fix the game as it goes along.
Failure to do so at the one year mark will probably spell trouble.
5, maybe 6:30?
