Hmmm ... a 'Reactivate' Button on the Login Screen

MxO didn't even go this far to try to get the players they'd run off to re-sub.

I fail to see your point. It takes you to your billing info, not automaticly activating it.

No harm there really, its just a shortcut. Whats wrong in making things easy?
Think about it. You reinstall the game because you want to reactivate. Its handy that there is a button there to make the progress easier.

    Its a scam I tells ya!!11

Myself disliking this game more than anyother MMO i've played, I see no harm in this. As long as you have to fill in your info than its impossible to accidentaly re-sub.

P.S. I don't think this game is worth any monthly fee

I don't necessarily think it's a scam, but it does indicate a certain level of admission that their retention isn't quite up to snuff.

I think it may also be an indication that the folks at Turbine see the playerbase for this game falling into a cycle, that being one of people playing until the content is used up then letting their sub lapse until more content is provided.

It's an interesting model.  It's certainly better than losing people outright, but when you have players letting their subs lapse, you have a great deal of risk.  New games are being released every Tuesday, and Turbine isn't just competing against MMO games (or even PC games) for players' time.  While your lapsed playerbase is waiting for you to provide content, something else could very easily capture their interest.  Not to mention the obvious .... while their sub is lapsed, you're not generating income from it.

To be honest, i'm a little surprised they still haven't pulled the plug on DDO's servers already. I suppose it is better to be getting a little bit of the investment back than none at all, at least till LOTRO releases. Probley Turbine is putting every spare manhour into the Rings and hoping DDO will continue to limp along providing a trickle of sub money till then.

Why would they pull the plug?  According to SirBruce, with an accuracy rating of B, they have 90,000 subscribers.  The game has more than enough players to be very profitable.  (not on the scale of a WoW or EQ2 or even GuildWars... but 90k subs isn't bad.

If that number drops then yeah I could see them canning the game.  Not entirely their call, however, as Atari and WotC have a say in it.
