Wow is Wow.  I dont want to play wow anymore, and this sounds like the kind of game i wnat to try.  Let Blizz have thier mass appeal game, im a guy with specialized tastets and from what i erad there are enough others like me out there to make this game happen.  If i wanted wow i have 3 level 60's i can continue to play with.

Mainly 'cos no game developer has ever released a MMORPG that has the content that they've boasted about.

The reason for that is MMOs are constantly evolving games.  Becasue of this their scope is so massive that people talk about so many things, it's not possible to get everything in at launch.  The difference between what we've said we're going to put in game on the boards, and the State of the World post is the stuff on the boards we'll get in as soon as possible, but the State of the World will be the game at release.

I said it before and I will always say it.. rv is not for 90% of mmorpg players. I hope it grows slowly and does well, but it will never be an uber blockbuster like wow or swg  , however like both of those games, maybe roma victor will bring in NEW people to the mmorpg community that never played them before. And no doubt if RV does well we will see more of its type.

I used to think eve-online would never take off and is not for 90% of mmorpg players,I join'd in 2003 few months after release and it had 3000 players tops,.boy i was hooked, but was in fear I joined a dieing game,.To my surprise it was gaining 1000's of players each month,.now it peeks at 25,000 players,.Sure that still dont seem like much and it may in fact only be 10% of the mmorpg players, but its holds the largest pvp battles and sure as hell feels like a full game when im playing.

I think roman Victor will bring in more players then eve and that will suit the world just fine.

Wrong, the reason for this, and you should know this too, is that MMORPG's are generally funded on strong and sellable ideas. (Like nearly everything else). The ideas attract investors and the developer then has the means to go ahead.

So, it makes more sense to talk up a pile of magnanimous crap about your game and get the interest, which gets the funding. Horizons is a great example of this, so is Anarchy Onlne, and Dark and Light.

Before you saddle up any high horses, I'm not talking about RV here, I'm talking about MMORPG's in general. RV seems to be an earnest project where everyone involved has laid their souls bare, but you guys are in a tiny minority in this business if that is so.

I wouldnt say "wrong".  I would say, "that's one reason".  I'm not quite sure how you can say that because MMORPGs are constantly evolving games, that that fact has nothing to do with why they are normally released without some of the features talked about.  Granted, it's not the only reason, but it is one of them.

I remember following Horizons back when there were angels and demons and that underwater race.  I was all for it.  But it evolved into something different.  And in this case for me, different wasnt good.

You followed Horizons when it was mere vapourware in David Allen's wannabe eyes...whoops, did I really say that? ::::02::

But Horizons got made because it got funded. David Allen could do little but talk. Someone still had to pay the bills. The version of HZ that made it out there door wasn't the halcyon vision DA had, but it was the one that money could make.

Yes, I'll drop names here, but I'm sort of friends with one of the world builders of HZ.

You guys (Red Bedlam) have at least laid your cards out for all to see and haven't really made any bollocks boasts.

Well, we're all gamers, we've all had BS thrown at us.  So we do our best not to do that to our community.

I agree with the OP, I'm hearing some positive impressions of this game. When does the game drop its NDA?

Pre-Release starts tomorrow, so the NDA should drop then as well.  I'll post here when it is dropped (well, maybe not right when as I've got a RL job and all and I"m suppose to be out of town and away from my PC tomorrow).

Everyone should be getting the good, the bad, and the ugly tomorrow about RV.  Use the opinions of those you trust (naturally not everyone is going to love RV) to figure out weather you want to purchase a key at launch, or wait around a bit for more features to be included.

Just telling everyone to go into the game with an open mind tommorrow...

You're expecting an AAA game probably, but what y ou got to realize is... games like WoW, SWG's, etc... have millions invested into them.  RV has a small fraction of that... in other words it's low budget.  So keep an open mind...

Millions <> Good game...  SWG has the Star Wars license, which is basically permission to print your own money.  And it's shite now!

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

I'm hoping to get my first paycheck since July 01 for helping with these games.  KFR also hasnt had a paycheck from his company since 2000.
In fact, I think only 4 or 5 guys on the team are paid when we have money to do so.  Actually, here's RedBedlams structure with a bit about the people there:
Management (all on board for around five years - all unpaid):
    KFR - See Jupiter.
RJH - Business Director (full and part time as needed)
NGW - Communications Director (part time)

Development (all on board for around 2-3 years - some have occasionally been paid as much as we could afford, whenever we could afford it):
Jupiter - Producer, Project Lead, Architect, Lead Designer, Programmer etc. Full time since the start.
Vulcan - Lead Client Programmer & 3D Engineer. Full time.
Neptune/Faunus - Lead Server & Tools Programmer. Full time.
Mercury - Lead 3D Artist. Sometimes full time; sometimes part time.
Apollo - Audio Lead & Composer. Full and part time.
Mars - Animator. As and when needed.
Additionally there are a few other goodly writers, artists and programmers that have also dropped in to help from time to time.

    Consultants:
    PJH - Virtual Economist
AJT - Server kernel & Tools Programming
Dr Richard Bartle - Virtual World Design
    LG - Communications & Design

    Community Support:
Kanoth. Community Relations Manager. Unpaid hero of the forums.
And of course the Prefects, Moderators and countless contributers that make this project both possible and worthwhile. They'll all feature in the game's credits eventually.

    Partners:
Finally there are all the third party companies and organisations that have worked with and partnered with us. Some in particular have gone well above and beyond their obligations to help us out, for which we are all extremely grateful.

The word 'passion' means both suffering and devotion. I think it is therefore entirely appropriate to say that RedBedlam is made up of a very passionate bunch of people. Anyone and everyone that cares about Roma Victor owes a great deal to the dedication, enthusiasm and talents - not to mention sacrifice - of those listed above.
