Worth giving a shot?

Hello there.

Wonder about trying ffxi, but i' am not quite sure yet.
So i wondered if anyone here could help me decide.

I have some questions that i could need answered:

-What do you think about the game?

-What would you say is the pros and cons of the game?

-Is there any pvp?

-How is the population?

-Costumizing, how is that in the game? like can you costumize your character at the start a lot? or is it the armors and equipment that will change your apperance the most?

-How is the pve side of the game?

-If you can compare the game to any other mmorpg's, which would it have been and why?

I've almost tried every mmorpg out on the market till now, and i've found a lot of them enjoying but i've never sticked to an mmorpg long, beside wow which i played around 1 year, but i'am sick of wow now :P
So hope i could get some answeres here, would really appricated it.

Thanks in advance =)

I'll try and answer your questions best i can ^^

    - XI is a really great game, lots of stuff to do throught out the time your playing, tons of end game content as well. But it's very time consuming, if you dont enjoy speding lots of time on an MMO, you'll probably get sick of XI within the first short while.

    - Pros - Great community, Great Graphics, Lots of Areas.
Cons - Time consuming, Lack of Customization and Large dependance on other people, Can't solo very well, unless your a BST. This could also be a good thing if your looking to meeting new people, but sometimes you can be looking for a party for hours on end.

    - As for PvP yes it has PvP, Its not your general pvp though, Considering XI is more of a game where people have to work together, SE made a sort of game format for PvP, Ballista or Brenner. There are no zones where you can just go around and kill people.

    - The population is nothing like WoW's, but mind you WoW's population is quite large. FFXI's population is good for your average MMO, nothing too big, such as WoW, but it has a nice flow of newcomers.

    - At beginning of game, theres not much you can do to customize your character, The armor you wear and the job you choose are the only things that you can really do to customize your character.

    - PvE is extremely well done, considering the lack of PvP SE had to make this aspect good. There are hundreds of Notorious Monsters to fight, tons of God monsters to fight, at the end of the game there is Dynamis (an instance-like area) and with the new expansion pack (Treasures of Aht Urghan) they had put in a couple new events, such as Beseiged and Assault. Beseiged is where the city in the new expansion, Al'Zhabi, gets attacked by beastmen, and you, along with other adventurers have to fight them off, theres always a chance that the beastmen may take a few prisoners which you will have to go and rescue. Assault is where you and a group of friends go and fight enemies in a certain location and you earn points towards new gear and other items.

    - I don't think I could compare this with any other MMO, it's kind of got it's own thing goin on lol.

Try out the game for yourself, It really depends on the person to find out if they like it or not. So it's worth a shot. ^^

Hope I answered your questions alright ^^; If you decide to join send me a message and ill hook you up with a world pass. That way I can help ya with anymore questions you have.

    ^.^V - Peace

Let me start by telling you that i've had this same exact problem with other MMO's.
The only other MMO i've ever played for more than, say, a month or two was Ragnarok Online (about three years).
I've tried tons of games, both free and P2P.

FFXI is the only one I find worth while so far (about four months and going strong!)

-What do you think about the game?
I truly love the game. I've had very few conflicts with other people, and I've found that lots of high level's are willing to help the "nubs".

-What would you say is the pros and cons of the game?
Pros: Making gil is easy when you know how to do it
Solo-able till certain levels (you don't immedately have to PT and can learn basic things on your own)
Really great basic job classes and it doesn't take too long to get to the advanced jobs
Isn't an "end all" awesome job class, all are great in their own way
Ability to switch to any of the jobs via your mog house
(Speaking of which) Furnitur for your mog house ^^
Unfriendly people have less/no friends (so you don't get baragged with mean-people)
Not huge pressure to level all the way to 75 right away
Playable and enjoyable after you are level 75
                   Lots of crafts and tradeskills
Notorious Monsters (harder monsters with rare drops..usually) some of which can be soloed at lower levels even!
                   Ability to equip subjobs
Cons: Farming items takes time, thereby making gil somewhat of a challenge
Even the cheapest tradeskills take up to 200k just getting up to level 30 (out of 100)
Unfriendly people make you feel bad and stupid :(
You might have a hard time getting to PT's later on if your job/subjob is not the "best" (I.E. NIN/WAR would be one of the best but you could also be THF/NIN and have a harder time getting pt's)
Without High-level help it's hard to accomplish some key things early on in game.

    -Is there any pvp?
Not sure about PVP but there are events that take you, a huge group of people, and a lot of fighting >:D which have awesome million-gil rewards ^^

    -How is the population?
Each world is different. Lots of newcomers every day. I'd say (at least for Bismarck server) it's pretty decent. Not overcrowded (except for a few big cities like Jeuno) not much lag at all. I've only experienced one lethal lag spike in four or so months of playing, not bad!

    -Costumizing,
how is that in the game? like can you costumize your character at the
start a lot? or is it the armors and equipment that will change your
    apperance the most?
You get a choice between heads, hair, and size (tall medium or small) at the very beginning. Playonline.com actually has a simulator of sorts. Armors and equipment at the beginning of the game are pretty ho-hum but every few levels you can change your gear (so you're not stuck with the same one for 20+ levels unless it's super good).

-How is the pve side of the game?
person versus enemy? lol sorry never heard that term before but they are truly amazing battles. Dragons, beasts, and tons of hard monsters are fun to beat and reap the awesome rewards from ^^

-If you can compare the game to any other mmorpg's, which would it have been and why?
You really can't compare this game to others even though there are lots of heated "WoW vs FFXI" debates. I believe that riding Chocobos pwn all so... yes.

    - I've played this game for a while and i really enjoyed it. i think its so cool because its a part of the final fantasy series and you get to meet some of the famous FF characters like cid! plus i like how it isnt like other fantasy games it doesnt have trolls or dwarves. it has mirtha, humes, elvaan, galka, and my favorite tarutarus.

-pros- this game is group based and you get to meet a lot of people and actually make friends thatll end up helping you out later. nicer community because everyone likes to help out (cuz one day theyll need your help most likely)

-con- this game is group based. which means you may have to wait a long time to get into a party to start lvling or that is willing to help you on a quest or mission. also the combat is slower than other games, but its suppose to be like the FF series by being turn based like the rest of the games. plus the first 10 lvls are solo and go SO slow imo. but after that you go to the dunes and it gets fun.

    - there really isnt pvp in this game. they have ballista but, its not like other games where its open pvp or anything.

-the population is good in this game. everyone is always working on new jobs to help their characters (jobs=classes) so there is always lower lvl people even if their not new.

-the costimization in this game is... ok. nothing like star wars galaxies where you completely make the character how you want. this just gives you some choices and you put them together so its not unlikely there is someone else running around looking like you. but when you put on armor it does change how your character looks.

-imo i think the pve side of this game is awesome, i loved the story line, it might be the only mmorpg i would say that has a storyline (unless you count GW as an mmorpg)

-i cant really think of any  other online games to compare it to.... this is a game of its own and i think thats what draws people to it.

    - i say its worth a shot and if you dont like it then w/e. but just one reccomendation to you if your a person like me who likes WoW as well, but you only like online games like WoW then you wont like this one, this is a bit more hardcore than WoW.
