The fun part of the MMO is the gameplay...

I don't know how being addicted would make it fun.

If the game wasn't addictive then it probably wouldn't be fun. So...no.

That's because the gameplay is the thing that matters but usually if a game is fun then it's addicting and if it's not fun then it's probably not addicting. And you're grammars bad!

Yes I get addicted to these games, because I am having fun.  But what is addiction?  It is something that you keep on doing and cannot stop right?  Not entirely sure if I am addicted to these games then...  But then again that could be myself in my own delusion. :P

if a game is fun, it can become addictive.

the addiction is the result of it being fun.

now, is being addicted to a game fun?  yes, if you want your wife/gf to be angry constantly.  if you want to have no social life.  if you want to be a couch potato with the arms of a t-rex and the body of a blue whale.  so yes, if you want those things, then being addicted to a game is a blast!

but on the flip side, it's a LOT cheaper ($10-20/month) than say being addicted to um alcohol, cocaine, hookers, street-fighting midgets or most any other addiction you could run across.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Wtf Addicted = fun? Addicted isn't usually a word synonymous with fun, "damn i'm addicted to crack cocaine i look like a zombie, i have very poor social skills, i'm f*****g my health up and i am broke, woopdeedoo i'm living the high life baby".
Addiction is bad because of all of the things that go with it, addiction = unhealthy. And before you say it getting addicted to WoW can be that extreme, life is about balance.::::18::

being addicted in a healthy sense is the really fun part for me, if being addicted so much that you'd rather play for 3 days straight than eat then that's abit too much.

You perhaps make a bad assumption that the addiction comes before the fun.

     HELLO?

The game must be fun for it to BECOME addictive.  The addiction is not the fun part.  The fun makes it addictive.

    Therefore, my answer was NO!!

As to what makes games fun, that's a very personal thing and it is different for every single player.  I guess the more people addicted to a game, the more people find it fun... at least at first.

    Anyway...

it's very addictive and features a lot more game time than a normal RPG game.

but the game experience isn't as involving, evolving (consistent worlds can't evolve) and the lacking parts of the game become much more clearer in a mmo (multiplayer) experience rather than a singleplayer mmorpg one.

limited involving gameplay (rpg) vs unlimited *cough* devolving gameplay (mmorpg) (I think mmorpgs are usually most enjoyable their first weeks/months as with time u have seen, done and experienced everything in the game)

It depend on the nature of the 'addicting' factor.  The 1 more turn addiction is FUN, you basically want MORE.  If you want MORE of something and do something else to achieve it, this is a VERY BAD ADDICTION.  For example, if you raid in order to be better in group, this is bad, very bad...nothing fun and nothing that someone should encourage.  See, the moment you do 'sacrifices' inside the game for other 'in-game' aspects, this is where it is not fun anymore.  Asking someone to do ANYTHING that is not related with what he wants is wrong.

To the 't-rex' arms comments:  I disagree, someone who play a video game a LOT might have skinny arms, but they won't be amorphing or getting any useless, if anything they will become more and more skilled and precises...they may be quite thin and elongated, but never atrophied, a MMO require you to move precisely those arms non-stop.  Your legs might on the other hand.

To the whale comment:  I don't think a MMO addiction contribute to make peoples fat.  In fact, while I play and enjoy myself, I find it easier to limit myself to the food I need rather than take an extra portion.  Working make peoples fat, as they are doing something that MUST be done, but afterward when they look at this good, delicious little food...well...they eat MORE than they would have otherwise, because on an emotional level, they do lot of sacrifices and they need this comfort.  In fact, jobs altered my physical weight, MMOs are slightly helping to regulate it, as I do something FUN, I don't consider other 'delicious' thingy as much.  Jobs turn me fat twice in my life, not directly, I mean they are good job...but a job implies sacrifices, making those sacrifices leave you emotionally unhappy, which lead you to compensate in other ways...in my case...yeah, I eat a LOT more when I work then if I don't work...if I don't work I eat just what I need and I get a LOT better.  But that ain't going to be resolved by games, the fact I am evil and see working as a necessary sacrifice (no matter how much I looove a job, kinda lucky atm, still a sacrifice like any job) is a problem related to the source, me.   See, the two times I become fat in my life, it was while working a LOT, no matter if I enjoy the job or not.  When I doesn't work or work 2 days a week (even 2 shifts of 16 hours), I control my weight and health a lot better, because I still have most of the week not doing any sacrifices...in fact, working twice a week for 16 hours each time is almost as good for my health as not working...since when you work 16 hours, you can't eat much during that time, just after...and if the 2 shift are separated by merely 8 hours, then you make 1 abuse per week, after those 2 shifts...almost as good as not working for health issues...if you work 4 times a week 8 hours, then you have to face 4 moments you want to abuse food and since MOST of the time you ain't free, the shadow loom over you even in your free spare time...I know, I am evil and completely screwed!  But I looove to play and enjoy my time!

Working 8 hours X 4 or 5 days is a LOT of sacrifices, those sacrifices lead to having a LOT more troubles to restrain yourself on the food input aspect (well if you enjoy eating like the vast majority of folks I know).  Enjoying video games make this aspect easier...unless some evil creature is bringing you food while you play, then you are screwed since you will eat it without noticing it...just make sure nobody is feeding you while you play!

See, 1 year ago I was thin...now I am fat...I don't think I will ever manage to get thin while working 4 days a week, that is utopic to believe I can show such control...1 year ago, I was used to work 2 days per week and MASSIVE hours, so I merely eat exageretedly once per week, my body can accept that rather well.  I love my new job...but...I don't like the change I see in the mirror.  Restraining myself while working most of the time (4 days or more per week = most of the time) is something I don't believe I will ever master...I really want to...but...that is sooo hard.  I need my 'reward' while I work, a MMO could be that reward, but if I am tired, then I usually don't even have the desire to play...so the reward has to take another form...and food is always an acceptable form...'work' must = 'reward', on a daily basic...eh, I know, I am screwed!  But that is an equation I must do at all time...and especially when you already look at a monitor for 8 hours, you are craving for a non-computer reward...hehe, sports are out of the question, they hurt those who practice them and they ain't fun...so don't talk me into such nonsense...
