So I might want to play Final Fantasy XI...

Question is, anybody know a place that delivers to mainland Europe where I can get it cheap?

I've been thinking about getting the German version from ebay (since it's the cheapest), but I'd hate if everything in PlayOnline showed up as German.

Also, I've been thinking about making either a RDM/WHM or a RDM/BLM or RDM/WAR - will any of these get groups at both low and high levels very easily? One thing I disliked about FFXI before I quit was having to wait for a group for more than half an hour without being able to alt-tab. I don't really want that problem anymore.

Also, if anybody happens to have a trial key it'd be extremely appreciated. I might even be able to give something in return for it.

Also, does anybody have an MSN/AIM/Yahoo adress so I can talk to you about the game? That might be nice.

Thank you very much.

Yes, I realise I said 'also' four times now. I like the word.

    RDM/WAR really doesn't work that well--the sad fact is that RDM doesn't do that much melee in higher-level exp parties. RDM/BLM and RDM/WHM work excellently, however; those are pretty much the standard subjobs for RDM (although others are possible). RDM gets invites readily. I often get invites even when not seeking, and I'm not even at the magic 41 yet. At 41, RDM gets Refresh--a spell exclusive to that job (although BRD and COR have similar abilities) that gives the target a buff that slowly refills his MPs, even when he's not resting. This is an ability *enormously* in demand. Players don't like to form an exp party without it. At this point you have to beat the invites off with a stick, I'm given to understand.

    I don't know that much about the EU editions of the game, as I live in the US, so I can't give you much help there, nor do I have a trial key. I'm sorry I can't be of much help on those points. I'm ChrisMattern1 on AIM and Yahoo, although I'm not on that much...maybe I'll be on more if I get somebody to talk to...

    That sounds fantastic. I'm quite a casual player, so I dislike long waiting times LFG, but one thing that has always appealed to me about FFXI was that so far it has been the only MMORPG to me so far which was a challenge and actually required teamwork and strategy slaying even the most basic mobs. Even being a healer (as I remember it, not sure if it's still the case as this was two years ago) was a treat as it required wit and fast reaction speed. I'm thinking about buying it, definitely.

    I really do dislike that after three months of cancellation your FFXI account will not be usable anymore. Do you happen to know if it's possible to pay for tetra master 1 dollar per month (instead of the 15 USD or whatever it costs) to keep your account active?

    Also, to anybody that knows, is it still confusing to make an account for FFXI? I remember it as being something very confusing for some reason, compared to other MMORPGs.

    And Chris, honestly thanks for your help. Just skimming through the threads on the FFXI section shows me that you're definitely a great person in terms of helping others with questions. It does seem to me, judging by this forum, that people playing FFXI are very friendly, helpful and well-spoken.

    edit;

    By the way, is gardening really as fun and challenging as it sounds?

    What's confusing is the PlayOnline set up. You actually get an activation code for POL, one for TetraMaster, one for FFXI, and one for each of the exapansions. You get a PlayOnline account. That's actually free. You then use your registration codes to make what SE calls "Content IDs", one for each of your FFXI characters (and one for TetraMaster if you decide you want to play it). Those are what you pay for: $12.95/mo for your first FFXI character and $1/mo for each character thereafter (and $1/mo for TetraMaster). None of this is changed, so setting up your account can still be a bit confusing. The good news is that they recently changed things so that they'll hold your inactive Content IDs for a year instead of just three months.

    I love gardening, and find it very profitable. The main challenge is finding a good recipe; both web research and some experimentation can help here. Not only does the seed type and crystal type used make a difference, so does type of pot used, and the moon phase and element of the day you plant, the day you fertilize and the day you harvest. This is supposed to be a good source, although I haven't used it much myself; I mostly just mucked around until I stumbled on something that makes a nice steady income. Surveying the auction houses on your system to get an idea of what you want to be raising is not a bad idea either. Having some mules definitely helps, as you can only run 10 pots in a Mog House, so mules give you a chance to go into mass production :-). The *really* serious gardeners use saplings and tree cuttings to garden for elemental ores. I haven't tried that yet, it sounds really tough (and risky--next to tree cuttings, the 50k a stack I pay for grain seeds is cheap!) As I said, the main thing is being able to log in for a few minutes a couple of times a day. Plants that are neglected wither and you're out the cost of your seeds (and crystals, if you fertilized). Being able to plant/fertilize/harvest on the right day can be a big thing too, but you generally have some flexibility there--although when things are particularly inconvenient, that flexibility may mean getting up in the middle of the night to take care of things because you couldn't do it in the middle of day while you were at work...
