Project Wiki: E3 2006 Preview

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

Danielle Vanderlip's final report from E3 earlier this month focuses in on Project Wiki. This youth oriented MMORPG is in development over at Webzen. Find out just how cute she thinks the game is.

image Another title we got to get a little 'hands on' time at E3 was Project Wiki at the Webzen booth. It’s cute. I don’t mean, “Oh isn’t that cute let’s squish it cute”. I mean, it’s really really cute. It’s the kind of cute in a sort of twisted way that makes you want to get hands on and play a bit. It reminded me a bit of the kind of cute that attracted a lot of other gamers and me to Toontown Online of all games.

So what exactly is Project Wiki?

Project Wiki is an MMORPG with what Webzen terms as “classical cell-shaded cartoon style” in a very stunning world. There are three different races to choose from: human, fairy and beast. Each race has their own classes and there will be special missions and quests to unlock hidden classes. Characters can be highly customized from their hair color to their style to attitude to facial expressions. The world will react to your character as well with some pretty smart NPC interactions. There are also many civilizations to explore within the game as well.

Finally! I've been waiting forever to see wiki get some attention. Like a lot of gamers, I'm eagerly waiting for games like WAR, AoC, HJ, maybe a couple of others. But I'm excited about Wiki for 2 reasons.

    1) It should be a casual and fun break from other mmogs.
    2) Its so cute and friendly looking that I may be able to get my wife to adventure online with me for the first time ever.

Here's hoping its not just another Grindfest. ::::01::

exactly my thoughts, especially the latter.

I only got my girlfriend to play WoW because of the artistic feel of the graphics, then she loved it. I don't play anymore... because way too repetitive... but, I think Wiki would have a good enough feel for her to want to play ::::20::

I'm also very excited about this title. I hope Webzen gives it the proper treatment. It should be fun and easy to get into, but not a "kids only" game. Mainly I'm concerned about the language barrier. Webzen says they are targeting the western market and they say it will be a "casual" game, but do they really mean what we think they mean, or are they just throwing around buzz words?

It has great potential, let's hope it lives up to it.
