If you look for interessting quests and fast levelling don't play L2. Since you mentioned GW - it's something like the anti L2.

Check the other threads on it for details.

I'm a gw player at heart and when I got a 14 day l2 trial with my copy of gw:f I decided to give it a try. I really enjoyed it once I was able to find a clan and get some help with "the grind." Which is my next comment, the legendary level 78 l2 grind and holy crap is it ever... This was fine because it was actually a fun grind but it got somewhat tedious after a while. Bought a 60 day game card and enjoyed it for quite a while but I'm already back to gw. If you have alot of time to spend leveling up buy this game, if you don't have that kind of time stick with something like guildwars!

People always complain about grind, but overall I think it's a good thing.  Grind separates the weak sauce from the real deal, and really gives an opportunity for roleplaying.  Seriously, besides the roleplaying aspect, there's a real sense of accomplishment when you break a level mark.  Sure the grind in and of itself is boring, but it gives players a chance to connect and bond while grinding.  My guild mates and I have a blast "grinding", since it's just another way of hanging out and chilling while levelling.  Games where the leveling is super fast like GW or The Legend of Ares really don't do it for me.
