have you installed all possible drivers for your video card? ie AGP drivers?

Weird, I never lag at all when I play, and you have me beat on everything but ram, I have a gig, but only a 2ghz processor and a 128mb geforce4. My suggestion would have been drivers but if you've already done that I dunno.

Horizons has some pretty hefty texturing going on, especially as you move from area to area. The more you play, the more textures load into memory. Your 512 memory is what's hurting you (not that that's your fault). Each unique set of textures is forced into memory and they just don't seem to deal with flushing that cache very well.

AO had this same problem when it was released, but it was REALLY CHRONIC. Horizons isn't nearly as bad, and I expect they (like FunCom) will fix it eventually. The sooner the better, it just isn't much fun to have to relog after a while.

the thing is that the game lags once i enter. and i play planetside without any major problems and that game has more going on. if it is my ram i dont have enought $$$$ top buy rd ram cuz that stuff is $$$. oh well

RDram isn't needed, I'm running low end ram, albeit a gig of ram, it's still lowend.

wot kind of processor? AMD or Intel?

and make sure u shut down any messenger programs that are running (MSN, iCQ) and stop any downloads.

also the distance between you and your telephone exchange could be a problem.

You lag because the game is poorly optimized and still running on Dx8 instead of Dx9 which it should be, since it is a new game. The graphics are totally unoptimized as they grab system resources and wont release them. Even after logging out of the game the Horizons.exe will hold onto resources for up to 10 minutes if you let it go. I have to manually go into task manager and shut down the exe or it keeps me from using my system at all.

The game has some optimization issues, particularly with ATI Radeon cards (GeForce is heavily supported). Tweaking your video settings both with the card AND in-game with the options settings will help a great deal.

Getting a video card with at LEAST 128 Megs of DDR RAM helps quite a bit as well, but as many have alluded there's a memory leak problem where your memory resources aren't released or flushed, and that slows the game down very quickly, particularly if you do a lot of portal jumping and database-intensive things (making, selling and trading items wiht a pawnbroker over and over again, for instance).

They DO seem to be trying to improve things, although CS is pretty poor at this point. I did do a full patch scan when I ran the game today and it downloaded about 5 or so files and I HAVE noticed a significant lessening of the lag issues. Hell, maybe they ARE working on it! image

    Horizon's performance tweak guide:
    http://vnboards.ign.com/Horizons_Tech_Center/b22608/61825337/?44

Some pretty handy tips and tricks and tweaks in there that several of my guildies ahve tried and swear by, like 15-20 fps improvements.

And another thread which has some stuff in it, dunno if the same info is covered in both:
    http://vnboards.ign.com/Horizons_Tech_Center/b22608/61895978/?45

Hope this helps, I keep meaning to run through and do all the stuff in the first thread, but I'm a procrastinator, and well, the game runs fine for me, and I believe, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I used to lag and and have complete machine lock-ups until i got 1gig of ram.

The situation improved 90% for me. It's not perfect now but much much better.

Yeah, I have a gig too, and never noticed any problems, but you shouldn't have to have a gig of ram to run this game smoothly. :P

Im all good at 512 megs. 3ghz P4 Raedon 9000 on a cable modem. Virtually no issues with CTD and small amounts of lag. Nothin to be angry at.
