Wrong. You think getting a free trip while you're a ghost back to the area you were fighting at means WoW is harder? In EQ2 you have to fight back to the place where you died to keep going to where you were going. In WoW you get a free ride, that's not harder.
sorry for going off topic, but I would to ask why you had 4 accounts? thats 60$ a month, isn't that a little expensive for one game? and why would you make more then one account, do you really need that many char slots?
It may be off-topic, but this is why *I* quit EQ II. You need 3-4 accounts to try out all of the classes to see which one(s) you like. Their stupid limit of 4 characters per account is just silly (actually greedy). Almost every other MMO out there, including EQ1, gives you more than that PER SERVER, and way more per account. So with EQ2 you either have to open up 3-4 accounts to try out all the classes or you have to try one, then delete it, then try another, then delete it, then try another, then delete it... Seemed like a waste of either time or money to me so I quit.

thats what the delete char button is for its not like you really ahve to lvl each and every class to 70 to see what you'll like best after all
I agree with the original poster. The game just does not have any imerssive qualities. Clicking on mounds of dirts and bells to travel from zone to zone eeek. The loading in oblivion is fine because its really fast, in this game loading takes up to a minute or even two...
Qeynos has what 8 zones for how tiny that is? AWFUL when you have to travel to the other end...
I think eq2 is one of the worst mmorpg's i've ever played actually.

If this is the worse MMO you have ever played you are very very lucky.
If I can pass on something to you so you don't blow any good money, don't bother with D&DO or RFO. If you had, there is no way you could say something like this.
EQII has some negitive qualities like most other games but it is FAR from the worse. Look on that list to the left off this screen. About 50% of those games are total garbage.
Yes it has loading screens, all MMO's do. That is a technical issue. All PC games have them also. The amount is another story. I don't like those "bells" either. Its just a porting system really, you could always run through all the zones.
Housing is bad? Most companies don't even bother with it. Its bad compared to what? SWG? Sure SWG has very good housing but the rest of the game is screwed.
Originally posted by sirk242 Originally posted by brostyn I don't get why people think their needs to be harsh death penalties. No game has ever instituted harsh death penalties until EQ came along. EQ2 dumbed down?? Please give examples. I never found the game hard.
I do agree with some of your other complaints. Like ZERG raiding. Wow, talk about a dumbing stuff down. Raids are a joke of an end game. Let's take 40 people to kill this 1 thing. HAHAHA WE PWN.
I wish i could find a game with true ZERG raiding, full on zerg wars are extremely fun IMO. Wow is more like, heres onyxia, okay tank go, wait wait wait wait, 5 sunders, okay dps!!, stop dps, okay dps!!, onyxia dies. Required was a video of somebody else doing this encounter and getting 30 to 40 people of the right classes to work together(which is the worse part of wow) to duplicate the strategy. Rinse and repeat weekly, Ladies and gentlemen, there you have the WoW raiding experience!
I couldnt Agree More, I am also ready for a Zerg style MMO am hoping either Archlord or Warhammer will be like this, I am putting my money on Archlord and I hope all the care bares stay the away, I think we need a Full on Zerg like war game, no Safe zones, SOE are tossers and love care bears.
I want full on Death penalties and somehow remove the damn lag factor that is always the case with these battle MMO's when the sides get too large, always wondered why the people who just want to be friends and get along dont play the Sims online
EDIT.
Big DP's would stop the Rambo tactics of the majority, it would force people to group and stay grouped and work as a team or else.... they would die and have serious penalties - yeah right like this would happen in a SOE game ever

Funny, but sad. The first few days I played were great...but now it's starting to feel like every other MMO. There are many elements that are nicely polished and work well. But it's kinda like a pretty wrapper over the standard fare.
EQ2 PvE is more interesting than WoW, at least for me. But end game for me in MMO's means PvP. I detest raiding with a passion, unless it's a PvP event (like Anarchy Online). AO was great because you'd have huge organized groups ganging together to take down a huge monster and enemy players would gang up too and attack you...mass PvP all the time.
When I first tried out this game, I didn't realize the end game was just another raider.....so now I'm torn on whether I want to keep playing.
Also, while it's convenient to have all the builtin tools for questing, it really feels like I'm being led everywhere. I rarely bother to read anything now.
EQ2 doesnt really have a raid centric end game, yes there are raids for raiders at level 70, but theres nothing forcing you to do them. There are also plenty of group zones and heroic encounters for level 70s, as well as a number of solo named mobs and overland areas (Bonemire has a number of solo level 70 mobs).
But really isnt grouping and raiding what you play online games for? If you want to 'solo' buy a console or single player rpg, will probably have a better storyline and you dont need to find groups. But there is plenty of content available in EQ2 for when you cant find groups at all levels. Whether you choose to do them or even try them is up to you.
I am not going to get into a WoW (or any other MMO) vs EQ2 debate, ive made my choice and I would be happy to tell you that its because there is so much stuff to do in EQ2, and that the classes and races are interesting to me. If you disagree thats fine, I found WoW and other MMOs enjoyable... they just arent my first choice. No big deal.
Every game cant cater to your every wish, EQ2 fits a market, WoW fits another... pick whatever you want, but it doesnt make the game any less enjoyable to the players if you have a cry that its not what you wanted, just move on.
There are about 6 games coming out that look twice as good as Vanguard (aka CoS, SUN, AoC, possibly LotRO just to name a few, though there are many more)

I don't get it, a number have been saying the graphics in DAOC are terrible. Didn't Mythic just update the gfx engine for a second time? Maybe no-one is bothering to update the game when they install the free trial or don't know how.

Still though it seems he's quitting because SoE is trying to make EQ2 more of a casual game than hardcore. I think the game still has some hardcore elements in it. They are trying to keep it balanced so that both casual and hardcore gamers can enjoy it.
Going to disagree with one of his points, he mentioned the game is too linear? It's not to me, you can run around and do anything anywhere. It's nothing like a consule game.
Didn't make it past the first page, but wanted to comment on this:
The OP doesn't seem to know what kind of game he wants. He pretends to want a hardcore game by complaining about them making it simple, and no death penalty, but he wants a casual game that he can solo though.
The OP will never find a game he likes until he decides what he likes.

Sorry but wanting to be able to solo is not "casual".
"Time.." I chuckled "I hold no secret to time, though it's mystery puzzles me. Deny it's existence and lie to myself not with hopes of a quickened pace."
Jodokai doesn't possess basic comprehension of common gaming terms, don't mind him. He is just venting his intolerance of soloing as a valid playstyle choice.
The term casual player has nothing to do with playstyle choice, which is what soloing, grouping, or raiding would be. Casual simply means a gamer who does not devote a lot of time to gaming and therefore prefers a less challenging game.
I myself would be best defined as a hardcore soloer. Someone who plays often, wants to be challenged, and mostly adventures alone. Old school EQ1 for instance, was a game which provided an environment for my player type.
The OP clearly desires a challenging game, one that is solo friendly. Unfortunately, a game like old school EQ1 which was both solo friendly if you picked the right class, whilst challenging to solo in, does not exist at the moment as far as I know.

I played EQ2 when it came out and quite before my free two weeks was up. The game wasn't ready for release, it was bugged and broken go figure last time I'll be burned by SOE (don't feed anyone all new games have problems crap I am an experinced mmo player and I know the difference between a new game working out the kinks and not being done).
I tried the game again after they got rid of the tired leveling system, but after playing to about level 18 I realised that the leveling system was such that you basically just kept advancing the same 10 levels over and over. You kept getting the same skills you always had they were just stronger. Lame

No annoying animated GIF here!
Come over to my house sometime and I'll show you. I've got mine all decked out.
Nice furniture, wall panels, bookshelves. And some holiday surprises too. Very festive.
I have people in game come over all the time to visit me. They all get jealous. Cuz my pad is the best.

That's why we have the "Ratings" section.
