    I'm 32 - getting old.

SWG was my first MMORPG, I started in November 2003.

I have played 8 other MMORPG's since dumping SWG due to the NGE and none of them can compare to the original version of Galaxies. Currently playing EvE and RF.

    MMORPG History:
    Playing - EVE Online.
Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion.
    Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9).
Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.

swg was my first, and since then i've tried many others including wow, gw, silk road, saga of ryzom, cov, and eve.

started swg in 03' between launch and mounts, whenever that was lol.

And it shouldnt come as too much of a suprise that swg was alot of people's first mmo.

#1, its star wars, regardless of whether you are an mmo fan or not or even know what an mmo is, alot of people just tried it because of the name.

#2 the broad variety of profession choices available attracted and kept more women, rp'ers, and folks interested in the non-combat side of gaming in addition to the "normal" male audience found in other games.

#3 it was a "2nd generation" mmo. many people outside of the hardcore gamers and asians began to become aware of mmo's at the time swg was released.

    For the Horde!

Played various Mud's (trade wars Major Mud etc.) in the days before graphics. Played the Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Ever Quest, Air Warrior III online (kind of like an MMO think of Plateside but with WWII era planes), and World War II Online before I played SWG.

Older than sin. Old enough to know better, etc.

SWG was my first MMO, though I briefly visited EQ and 'just didn't get it'. Almost tempted to list Op Flashpoint as an MMO as that was the first immersive multiplayer online world I'd been in and really felt it was 'bigger than just a game'.

Started 800 and some days ago. January 04?

    29 here.
First mmorpg I've played (for a long time) was Anarchy Online. Then I've tested SWG pre-cu but I didn't get into it (my bad, went solo all the time). Played WoW for a couple months. At june-july 2005 I resubed at SWG. I quitted/ressubed/quitted when NGE.

    First online MMO was UO.

I got this idea from a thread over in the WoW section, and it made me curious of the age of the people here. I thought I'd through in some additional questions while here datamining. I would use a poll, but I've got three questions:

    What is your current age?
Some days, much much older than others.

What Star Wars Galaxies your first MMORPG? If not, what are your previous experiences (including MUDs, if any). Got my start with online gaming playing Rebel Space on *Prodigy, then The Realm. From there Everquest, DAOC, SWG, EQ2, WoW. I played Shadowbane for about 30 minutes, logged and never played it again, so I'm not sure that counts.

When did you start playing SWG, to the best of your recollection? (it may help sharing what the first featured added after you started was) Started in beta, but couldn't do much there due to the motion sickness problem. My official start date was July 10, 2003.

Tried EQ before SWG (That's where I discovered my now eternal hatred for magical elfs, dwarfs and orcs.)

Started playing SWG on the second day after launch.

When did you start playing SWG, to the best of your recollection? (it may help sharing what the first featured added after you started was)  Beta tested, didn't buy at launch, came back between player city patch and vehicle patch.  Played until two weeks before SWG announced the NGE was coming out (must have been psychic).  Used my 15 day trial to test out the NGE, didn't like it.

Boy does that sound familiar!  My group of friends were banned from playing D&D at the complex (I was overseas at the time) that I lived in because of some stupid housewives with too much time on their hands thought we were devil worshipping.

(it may help sharing what the first featured added after you started
was)  Started playing a little over a month before CU and was totally hooked the second day, so at least I got some flavor of the olden days.  I was blown away by the detail in the game.  How professions used each other to make themselves viable, how you had to be careful where you went.  Dathomir used to make me nervous when I first started because I was so low in professions.  The guys I hung around with that got me into SWG used to go there and I'd almost dread it, but be very excited and get a sort of adrenalin rush too.  Was a great feeling all of us taking down Rancors while trying to avoid the Nightsisters and other agro.  Now all the guys that got me into it have left after the NGE.  I didn't want to leave, in fact we'd discussed about a week or two prior to the NGE how we could see ourselves in SWG for years to come.  To me there was no end game feel to it all.

I've given it a good college try, but the game has played itself out now.

Thankfully I've found another sandbox style game, while it is not SWG it is enough to make me feel free to do what I want.  And a fantastic community to boot.

    about a week after go-live

This thread just goes to show how they targetted the wrong audience for the combat upgrades. I guess there are many like me who enjoyed how complex the game was and how it did take a long time to get things done. I used to play about 2 hours a week and had managed to get about 4 villiage boxes complete before the NGE hit. Friends around my age have all siad that they would have played this game until they were old and grey and I believe I would have as well. This was a special place to be and it's a damn shame I won't be going back home to tat

It's really wierd how I admired all those who managed to get jedi and how I longed to be a jedi. After NGE I longed to not find a jedi or be one myself. I tried to stay with it as long as possible and even borrowed a friends soon to expire alt account to see if we could start again as if it were a new game. No chance. We are off of MMORPG's at the moment waiting for the next incarnation of SW MMORPG (whenever that will be)!

There will be another - there is too much market for it. And it will probably be once PS3 has taken its millions from SWG PS3 (if they can keep it dumbed down enough for it to work on consoles!)

No, that would be EQ. Went from Beta and missed a day of work for the Launch. Cough cough...

PreCU - Tried the free trial, bought my copy after trial only to find out that they had accidentally released a large shipment of the game with keys that had already been used. Had to scan the box and my receipt so that I could prove that I had bought a legit copy. However, from that moment on - I played every night. Had a client list as long as your arm, three understudies, joined the Antarian Rangers and then rode the money train via the Hero of Tat quest. Ahh, the good old days. Did I mention how much I hate the Moisture Farmer?

    Damn SOE.

SWG was my first, and i loved it.I started with a trial on farstar but moved to eclipse pretty soon, Last time i checked (early in the nge) i was in it for 500 days. Canceled with the CU, and resubbed just a few weeks before we heared the NGE would come, so canceled again (feb 2006) I remember seeing my first jedi months after my first walk in swg.

GW, tried some trials of EVE, EQ2 and some others i forgot, all these cant compete with pre-cu swg.

    30 (almost 31).

SWG was my first MMO... I didn't even know what they were until my brother told me about the Star Wars one.  I started playing in Jan. 04.  I played and ground out my jedi to padawan three days before the CU came live.  I then went through the Jedi/BH Wars..  That was a bit frustrating for a Paddy...  I then played off and on and then basically don't play as a result of the NGE now...  I don't find it interesting or as fun... but I do reinstall from time to time...

    NOTHING ELSE IS STAR WARS!

I do play WoW a couple of times a week right now with a 47 priest..  It's fun, but...

    IT'S NOT STAR WARS!

SOE has no idea what they've done by alienating three generations of film/book/saga fans that would have stayed wtih this game for a very very long time!

    I MISS "MY GAME."

Don't want to hijack Squidi's Excellent Thread but... from the ESA's "Essential Facts 2006" I picked out a couple of interesting snippets:

Gaming population is split 62/38% male to female

    but...

Women 18+ are a bigger sector of the market than boys <17 the stereotypical gamer.  (30% as to 23%)

Kind of makes you wonder if the games companies are directing their attention towards teh wrong demographic ;)
