tried trial - game won't even load for me

in Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted

I can open the patcher to make a toon, and it puts out all the loading messages, then...nothing. The window closes and nothing happens. Try again, nothing happens. Even when trying to make my toon, it gives me some wierd technical webpage with a bunch of options to check, none of which make sense, such as <logging> (on/off)   <.net> (on/off).....wierd stuff like that. I even tried turning my internet security to low and accept all cookies, but nothing changed.

What's up with this?

    Valance,

    Did you try and create/patch on the Blight server?

    I ask because that's the test shard and currently it's got a new interface that doesn't work with some systems. I've not seen your issues before.

    Unfortunately, with it being Sunday, I can't have someone from tech look at your thread.

    But, I'd like to start with finding out where you were trying to start.

    Also, are you creating on the North American shards or the European?

    i'm in america, and I tried creating a toon on order, chaos, and blight - all gave the same response. I read that the european create character page has been down for weeks, so could the same thing be going in with the north america servers?

    that's what the odd techincal page looks like when i try to make a toon. i click continue, patcher loads up, takes about 30 seconds to check files and load the game, then the patcher closes and the game window never appears.

    No, they have different clients than we do.

    I just tried and I'm getting some of the same behaviors you are, but I can get passed them so I think there may be some problems occurring today. So far, you're the first report of it. But I can confirm it.

    I'll be going into the office later today.

    HOWEVER, you can get past it.

    Stick with Chaos or Order. DO NOT use Blight.

    It's going to look odd on the character creation screen. My first reaction was to ctrl+alt+del out, but I waited a bit and it cleared to a normal screen. Create your character. When you enter the tutorial it does something weird again...wait a moment, the tutorial loads correctly and all is good from there.

    This is NOT normal behavior. Again, yours is the first report I've seen. I'm watching closely for more.

    Also, if you don't mind, create an account on the official forums: http://community.istaria.com/forum/ and PM Ophelea with your CHARACTER name so that I can get tech to look into it. We'll probably have you pull logs and compare them to mine from my two systems.

    I have two VERY different systems but the same behaviors.

    Weird. I wonder what started it today? On a Sunday?

    yes, i'm using IE. I haven't been able to make a character yet (can't get the game to actually start). I feel kinda special to be the first one to find this lol.

    i have something similar to this, im waiting on a support ticket as i type. (estimated 24 hour turnaround)

    Ive patched and the game loads to the title screen with music playing. Along the bottom ive got messages appearing like 'creating character essence' etc.

    but nothing ever happens.

    the game ends up not responding after many minutes and i have to either ctrl-alt-del out or even reset my machine sometimes.

    I'm yet to even see what the game looks like. :/

    I noticed on the forums that audigy 2 might have something to do with it. Can anyone confirm?

    I had something similar to you Fractal.

    Only the game generally responds for me. It should be loading under all that slowness. Then I got in and had the same time every time I ported. I found the solution with some players telling me how to remove the loading screens (something unfortunately I didn't right down). Removing the loading screens removed all porting delays and made the game load faster (though it is still slow). I suggest asking on the forums or mIRC for a more veteran player to tell you how to remove the loading screens and try it again.

    I have a Soundblaster X-Fi and this game does seem to have some problems with Soundblaster cards, but the lead developer has posted that they're working on solutions on the test server. In general the game works pretty well though.

    Hey Fractal,

    just asked on mIRC for you.

    The command if you get into the game is:

    /setpref useloadingscreen false

    then you have to restart the game for it to take effect.

    Since you can't even load the game, I'll tell you the command is found in the ClientPrefs_Common file, but make a backup and make sure you know what you're doing when you change it. Preferably with help from some players over mIRC.
