I agree, I dont hate or love WoW, but I have to give them some credit on their UI customization. They didnt do everything wrong it's a solid game, obviously, with 6mil subscribers. I also hope Vanguard doesnt flop like D&L did. They both sounded similar though I have never played either, just reading their boards about featers etc...
The UI is a bit TOO customizable. IE you can get "plugins" to reveal the map, let you know if someone's dead or just feigning. I'm all for UI customization, but when it becomes a legal method of what's essentially cheating, that's a bit too much.

One of the good things about EQ1 was the sheer range of character models (ie for mobs etc). One of the things that really annoys me with recent MMOs is the lack of variety in their models. DAOC was appaling for this, there were intially only about 30 odd models to represent all the mobs in the game. WoW suffers to a lesser degree, but it is noticable and does ruin immersion.

When I speak of the UI, I speak of the user interface, not the plugins that I agree go way too far.

Checked it out and found that the comments for this page are diverse... some bitching about WoW others defending it - just about like everywhere.
I guess they will look at some of the "mistakes" WoW did nd try to avoid them. But I can't really judge since I never even considered touching WoW.
Basically I think Vanguard caters to "other" online players then WoW.
My 2 cents.
