Did Mythic ever say that there will be mounts in WAR? Welll if so, wouldn't it be great if the players can also alter the appearance of their mounts, for example changing the armour .
Yes, and instead of being level-locked they'll be based off of a skill, so you can change how early/late you get a mount depending on what you do. So if you're an explorer type you could focus on getting a mount early instead of combat skills.
I've read the same thing too, but can't remember where in the world it was. (been reading a lot about the game and it all starts to blur). It comes down to the "skill package" type leveling they're doing and as stated above, some things can be gained earlier by putting of other things (mount instead of combat skills).
Somewhere in this bottomless pit of information is where I read it:
The Warhammer world certainly lends itself to mounts. Just about every race has mounts. Orc Boarboyz, Goblin Squid Herders, Dark Elf Cold One Knights, Chaos Knights, Empire Knights, High Elf Knights.. Dwarves.. well... Perhaps you could have Dwarven Shieldbearers, but that might be weird.
(For those who don't know, Shieldbearers are basically a couple dwarves that carry around a big shield on their shoulders so the king can stand ontop of it and ride around)

No levels. Four tiers, with ranks within each tier. You'll have 4 XP bars that allow you to select "packages" of advancements - abilities, static buffs, skills, etc. that you want to work on. Three will be "standard" bars, one will be RvR-specific.
The packages allow you to select advancements that interest you without level-locking them. So, if you're a big fan of exploring and you want to get a mount earlier than - say - an improved combat ability, you can choose a package that includes the ability to use a mount. Packages will have SOME restrictions - most likely tier-specific - but they offer players the ability to wind up with all of the stuff they want eventually, but also the ability to get it in the order of their choosing.
Was this from before or after they changed the leveling/class system? I know I heard/read somewhere that they recently changed it.
Edit: I can't remember where it was, but I know the person was talking about Trollslayers and how you can't start as one but they'll be playable.
Edit #2: Nvm, found it http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=58229 was the article I was looking at. It appears that it meshes with the somethingaweful article, thanks for the link (I'd never heard of the packages stuff before).

One really cool feature that I hope Mythic will also implement in WAR would be to motion capture a horse like in Age of Conan. The movement of the horse was very fluid and life like. It really looked awesome when I saw it in the E3 footage made by Gamespot.

I missed this info somehow. I think that is pretty fantastic news. Hurray for an mmo that allows you to play the game how you like and progress in the areas you find most enjoyable.
I'm curious. Will WAR players be able to fight from on their mount? I swear I thought I had seen that it was going to be there, but I can't find squat about it now...
This sounds so cool, but also brings some issues to my mind..
Having played warhammer for many years, I know how the rules go for the different mounts. Many of these has similar stats and bonuses to their rider, but there are some small differences that allow for unique race specialities.. for instance.. High Elven horses are faster than ordinary horses, Dark Elven Cold Ones (Raptors) are better in combat, but lack intelligence (hence, harder to control).
What Im wondering is, if the mounts for the different races be different, or just the same, but with different looks?
I dont know if this has already been discussed, but I hope so.. But will there will mounted combat. I know they have it in DAoC, but dunno if they chose to implement it with WAR.
In any case, different stats for the different racial mounts could be nice

I forgot all about the racial mounts, myself. Elven steed, Bretonnian warhorses, etc.
Man. If there was that in WAR (mounts with different stats), I think I might get happy. In my pants.
Here's a thought, wouldn't it be better when you go down your mount it wouldn't just disappear in a cloud of smoke and reappear like a Djinn when you want to ride it again. What if WAR just makes the mount stroll away in a short distance when the character dismounts and then it'll just go near again when called, say by a whistle.
Also, if there will be mounted combat in WAR, the mounts add a damage modifier to the character's attack because of the added momentum when charging. But if that momentum is lost, the character will be forced to dismount and do battle on foot. Momentum will be measured with the speed and distance of the character to the enemy. If the speed and distance is not enough for a good charge then the player dismounts automatically.
Mounts can not be attacked by other players or even NPCs. When a player is forced to do combat on foot and dismount, the mount will just walk near to the side away from the battle. And whether the battle is over or not, the player can decide to ride away again or escape, he can easily call his mount to run to him.
Hehe just a suggestion. I hope Mythic is reading this post also.

bingo, that's where I saw it. ^

Yea and we really need customization for the mounts, like armor, color, "weapons", size etc. ^^
The more customization, the better, IMO.
I hate games that make you become "Orc number #6243".

@markmcab
Nice idea, i always hated the "vanishing" mounts.
The avatar should give the mount a clap and then they run away (or something like that).
Oh and mythic, give elves an ocarina to call their mounts
Sounds like u have played Zelda.
I like the idea though
