Hero Online: Q&A with Jack Stanley

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

We caught up with Jack Stanley, the Lead Designer of Hero Online, to discuss this Asian MMORPG that MGame USA is bringing to the North American market.

image MMORPG.com: How do you think the Asian elements of Hero Online will translate to an American audience?

Jack Stanley: The Asian elements of Hero Online are one of the more distinguishing factors when it comes to playing the game, but that’s not to say everything will be “Asian”. One of the more obvious examples of this is the language. The translation team worked very hard in order to come up with the proper choice of diction in order to capture the essence of the text. Because of this, the game will be easy to read and understand while still maintaining the depth and context in the many items, skills, quests, and plots. Comprehension was the ultimate goal, but authenticity was high priority as well. So how do we think Hero Online will be received in America? Hero Online is a game with so much depth and content, that interest in martial arts is not a requirement to enjoy this game. Any gamer who enjoys MMORPGs with gripping storylines, great quests, and extensive content will enjoy Hero Online.

I for 1 have been reading all the hero online threads, Ive also recieved my closed beta hero online key already from mmo-empire and mmogamez.  Im pretty stocked to check out this game everything ive read so far indicates it might be the new "it" game.  Ive had good and bad experiecnces with asian > northamerican games, My least favorite thing is when alot of the asian players come to the server and pollute the newbness factor.  Nothing is more fun when noone has a clue whats going on imo :P

That being said cant wait to check this game out stay tuned to such sites as mmorpg.com / betawatcher.com they are going to be geting keys to give out (not a fact but have a good feeling :P ). Hope this game lives up to the hype cya inside.

PvP might be a bit boring if it's just fighting for a mine resource... sound like the same pvp type in RFonline.  That got boring really fast... they should just split the NCP into waring faction...  use the story line setting of the 3 Kingdom and build from there so you can lay seige and stuff.  And create special balance skills per region lets say.  Being able to change the landscape makes the game alot more fun.

    What's the end game?

I think that should be a standard question of the interviewers.  It's so important for people to know if they will be raiding for hours at a time or doing something else.

I for one don't have the time or interest in a 4-6 hour raid, but I can play for 2-3 hours at a clip at night.  End game definition is very important for me.

wow this looks pretty intresting, hopefully it wont just blend in with basically ALL

of the free mmorpgs and stand out more like the well developed titles like WOW, Guild wars etc. etc.
