CGM-post here if you were scammed

What the heck is going on with beta and CGM's misleading hype that everyone who bought the magazine or a subscription, would be able to beta? Was this premature or what? If it wasn't ready to beta then why the hell print up all the hype that we would have a chance at beta? This to me is a scam. I know in the MMORPG world, publishers are morons and liars but these false claims and hype is bullsheot.

Hehehee, welcome to the world of Sigil/SOE.

EQ1, depsite being a great game, hyped many things, only to deliver much later than announced or not at all (Class balance anyone?).

On a serious note, yes, if you read the fine print, you'd be considered for the beta at a later date.  However, through clever marketing, you, me and about 99% of people that saw the big blazing letters "GET INTO BETA! BUY THIS MAG!" (I'm not quoting here folks, but you get the idea!), yes I can see where you would feel decieved.

I didn't buy the magazine because I'm a loyal subscriber to PC Gamer, and to be honest, an invite to Beta for buying a magazine seemed too good to be true.  And you know, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

    I don't know -- I'm getting really confused.

So, why are we hating Sigil and Vanguard this week?

It's getting so hard to keep up, I'll just go back to my original viewpoint and just get a chuckle out of all the hateboi topics.

LOL Yeah. I guess you're right. I received an e-mail stating that the delay is because of the merger of publishers.....GEEZ SOE screwing shit up again?????????

On the other hand, since I haven't been playing any games of late, I think my nasty habit of MMORPG's is going away. I'm more into my other hobbies and enjoying it. Honestly, I'm fed up with all the BS you get from devs, mods and the whole lot.

It's not hating...Did I say "hate" anywhere in my post? Maybe you need to read slowerrrrrr. The hype was misleading and if you disagree, you're in the minority or in the pocket of SOE/Sigil/CGM or in need of a reality check. Honestly, I do not hate Sigil/CGM, it's the fact that the hype was misleading in the attempt to procure sales.

I dont think the hypse was misleading.  I dont have a copy of the the magazine or the ad, but I don't believe it said that the CGM code would get you into Beta immediatley.

If you read the dev quotes or had the checked the official forum at all you would have seen there were no promises that you would get into beta anytime soon.  In fact Brad McQuaid responded right away and said these people most likely would not be in beta for quite sometime most likely not until the last stage of beta.  Its not a scam they were totally up front from the day the magazine announced the get into beta advertisement.  Because of the numeropus threads about CGM many people made CGM FAQ's for prospective purchasers which were listed in a thread here on mmorpg.comand in numerous threads on the official forums long before the magazine came out.

Beta has not delayed nor was there anything ever promised to anyone who puirchased the magazine other than at some point you will get into beta if you register the code.  But again they were totally up front and said that beta invite will most likley be a long ways away.

LOL, I'd actually bother reading the posts over on the Vanguard forums, but their so full of "Back off! Get your own game!" and "WoW is teh Suxx0rs!1!" posts, that I just didn't bother digging through all the crap for them.

i don,t get what you guys are whining about....

I never expected to be in beta with this.  I just knew it would put me on the line.

I followed CGM on how to get the beta key and everything worked fine... even the part on the vanguard website.

    Can't wait to play this.

You need to read things more carefully when you get excited. It wasn't a scam and was stated properly IMO. However I no longer have any interest in theis game with my experiences.

Are you that dense? I can post e-mails that I received saying that the delay in beta was becasue of the recent merger and somethingto the sort that the servers were being moved to a new location. Shows you really know your stuff.

On the contrary, I just reviewed the issue in question and from your post, you're definitely wrong. Maybe you need to read the first page of the article. Do I need to post it word for word?

Try reading a bit more next time before you think you're instantly getting into a beta. Also, look up beta on Wikipedia. It will tell you to expect delays among other things.

Don't worry about the beta just yet. . .  I saw this game at E3, and it probably needs at least six more months to be more than a featureless shell.

Just click on the dev tracker.  If they posted in the forums, it shows up there.  Check the subject and see if it is game related.  That's what I started doing.

I'm going off what the article stated. READ THE FIRST FEW PARAGRAPHS!!! If it would have stated that we subscribe now and get a chance to beta 6 months from now, I wouldn't have subscribed to CGM. Maybe you should try reading a bit more. I have the issue here in front of me.....JEEZ

You need to be a bit more thorough then I suppose when reading things that might lose you money. Lesson learned I hope.

Well one thing you perhaps aren't aware of is that those articles in magazines are submitted several months ahead of the publication date.

So I would expect at the date it was submitted they weren't expecting the CGM beta to be 6 months away.

But with a new publisher and feedback from closed beta etc its further away than they expected.

You guys crack me up. You all must be getting bored arguing about how good/bad Vanguard is or how much is sucks (or doesn't matter) that SOE got involved. I find it so hard to post anything in these forums cuz all anyone does is argue. Well, not entirely true. Some of you post opinions and information and the like. LOL Those posts turn into arguments by the time I get to read em it becomes pointless for me to respond.

Oh well... I'll just pop my head back in here in like a week or so and see what the new topics for "discussion" are...

Heres an email I got after purchasing CGM...

    Dear Mr Poopy Head,

Thank you for your purchase/subscription. And welcome to the Beta test
for Sigil Games’ Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. This early look at the game is
exclusive to readers of the June issue of Computer Games
    Magazine.

    This code gives you
exclusive access to the closed Vanguard beta test. Sigil Games Online adds beta
testers in large batches every few weeks. By registering your exclusive CGM
code, you'll be instantly added to their beta queue. There is no need to put in
an application and hope you'll get chosen to participate; you skip right to the
front of the line. After your code is registered, they will then send you an
email when your name comes up in the list, along with the client download
    information.

    Here is the
    code:

    1337-5P33K-5UK5-0RZ1

The way I understand it, those who bought CGM and registered their code will get into closed beta WHEN we are selected, and we would skip the normal line of potential beta testers (those that signed up for beta but did not buy CGM would be the last to join). So I knew it was nota guarantted beta spot right away.

haahh yeah i did the CGM subscription myself, thinking i was a shoe in for the beta. its all BS. i called them back and said I want my money back id like to cancel. now i gotta wait 8 weeks for my $30 back. lol ill never read them again. low  and dirty tactics. im better off just waiting as I did in the forums for getting into the beta.

next time ill make sure to read more thoroughly as their FAQ was a bit vague. well im kinda over the whole VSOH thing anyway, may not even bother playing it. so not really stressing it, only thing im stressing is waiting 8 frigging weeks for my money back from the publisher.

since when has soe ever had any control of CGM its thier fault for all this confusion they shouldnt have given anyone any beta keys unless it would really let you into beta which in reality is just the same as registering to vanguards forums and waiting for a chance to get in beta
  • thuviathuvia Member Posts: 15
they haven't let *anyone* new into beta for a couple months.   when they start inviting people again and you don't get in you can bitch.
