Lineage 2

Just registered on this site, and it seems really cool. One thing IW ould like to ask is how good is Lineage 2? I looked it up and it looked really good, but the ratings aren't so good. I have some questions about it.

1. How popular is it?
2. How fun is it?
3. Is it user-friendly?

Thanks in advance.

    1) Pretty popular

Population is 80k+ on American/European servers.

2)It depends on what you like in MMOs

3)Kind of, at the beginning it is kind of hard getting on your own two feet but once you get a bit higher, there are more options to gain money and level easier such as raids.

In MMO's I really like grouping, but I also like to solo. I don't want to be FORCED to group. I played WoW to 60, and I remember how there were times when I Would wait for 3+ hours for a group, which I didn't like. I did have the option to solo instead of group though, I just chose to group. I like to have the option so that if I can't get a group, I can go solo outside for some experience even if it's not as good as that group. I really like PvP, and to me it is more fun than PvE once you get yourself some good gear.

You can solo your way through Lineage 2 if you want.

The PvP is really fun but if you are thinking of going to a castle seige right when you log in, think twice since most people there are like 60+.

Lineage 2 takes a while to level so just a warning.

I played lineage 2 for almost 2 years.  The game looks decent, has easy control

and requires you to quit your life to keep up with the crowd. Anyone that plays lineage 2 that doesnt ebay or bot is at a great disadvantage because nearly all do it to a degree. NcSoft has a bad reputation with the BBB(better business bureau) and customer support is near crap. I say near crap because it atleast stinks and you know its there.  Now if you go ahead and play keep in mind 8 hours a day is partime to stay competitive.

    3.   Yes,in my opinion

If you are going to play this, I suggest buying a few million adena to get the top newbie equipment.

Adena is really cheap now, just click one of the ads on this site.

Third party programs are also necessary to cope with the excruciating gameplay.

Are you saying it isn't fun? I'm not gonna buy Adena or use Third Party Programs. I want to play it, and have fun. If i dont get to 78, so be it. I just want to have fun. Botting to get somewhere is stupid imo.

If you are willing to pay for the game, then it's easy to get a few million adena for $5.

You will see why once you start playing.

Lineage 2 has many many players (www.MMOgchar.com).  It has gotten a lot of hate over the past few years, but every expansion has made it better.  Most people dont give the game a chance.  The above posts are correct, most people buy currency and there are a lot of bots.  I havent not used any third party programs because I like a good grind :)  The game sets itself apart by the tremendous amount of time and effort needed to get to a high level.  It creates a satisfying feeling when you are finally C, B, or A grade.  Everyone and their sister isnt walking around at lvl 78..not even close.  There will be many people that will burn this game, but look at the numbers, its has enough population to justify that it is a great game, although it isnt for everyone

You dont have to play 8 hours a day to have fun with the game.   There is no time limit so play as often as you like.  Just let people know you are a casual player.   If you are very active, on the other hand, it will be easier to join more established clans (if that is what you want to do).

Post in the L2 forum if you have anymore questions.

I say try it out. I like it.

Oh, and the person who suggested buying adena.. You do not really have to.

When you start, PLEASE take advantage of the exchanging equipment, free soulshots/spiritshots, and free buffs!!!

the game is pretty big and really challenging.  If you feel like the only way to have fun with the game is to be lvl 60+, then yes you will convince yourself you need to buy adena to burn through levels and play 8+ hours a day.  I will also add that there are a lot of clans (speaking coming from Lionna) that frown upon Adena buyers.  Many clans will remove players if they have suspicions of purchasing adena.  Its not that hard to figure out who buys it and who doesnt if you're close to them.

The game world is very big and the game itself is very rewarding for people who have played it for a long time (vets).  I can compare a lot of aspects to Eve in its non-instant gratification aspects.  The artwork is absolutely beautiful and the PvP is probably the best you could ask in any MMO.

other then that, jhall summed it up very nicely.  Lineage 2 is very under-rated.  Theres a lot in the game an ex-WoW player can appreciate.

In a few months when you realise that most people prefer to be high level and will leave out the ones that do not. The ones that do not end up troll the forums. There is are reasons behind having to be high level or at least stay within a range of your friends/clanmates. Parties, raids, and sieges.  Low levels can not contribute to anything if they are level 30 and the rest are 60+ after a few months. which does require alot of time to do. Sieges will not be fun because you will get killed from the weakest attacks from any player.

Keep in mind your first 20 levels will be the first test. Test of putting up with bots. We are talking about 20-50 bots deleveling on guards at any given time. 50+ bots in starter areas killing the monsters you need for quests,items,and/or levels. Constantly being told by a GM "we will investigate the player" and then see the same bot a year later stealing your mobs.  Not to mention the area announcement of when a player picks up an item....."WangChungbotboy picked up XXXX item" worth millions.

Go play lineage 2 support the farmers that control the economy to buy new houses in paradise as for me i will keep to looking for a game.

Although I agree the site is useless as far as accuracy...where did you come up with "chocolate teapot"?

Yea. Youd have better luck getting democratic advice from Joseph Stalin than remotely accuracte numbers from that site.

I don't know, actually.  It's just a funny old saying.

    LMAO, I love the name
Go play lineage 2 support the farmers that control the economy to buy new houses in paradise as for me i will keep to looking for a game.

Anyway, are you saying that the farmers in WoW are not more numerous then L2? Are you implying that no other game has farmers? Honestly, why do you guys persist with this farmer / bot thing in L2 when its in all these games? Go to I*E and find me a popular game that doesn't have currency for sale.

its not that I don't agree with you to a point but I'm fed with them in all these games not just L2.

SWG is pretty bot/farmer free these days lol, go figure.

    1. How popular is it?

Well in the North American / European market, not all that popular...its a hard game. I think there are around 85k subscribers in our market. (up from 65k last year) L2's main market is in Asia.

    2. How fun is it?
It depends what you like and how social you are and how thick skinned you are. its open PvP so you can expect to get ganked every once in awhile. Without a guild you will not be able to get into the seiges at higher levels. Without friends and a good reputation you won't get very far in the economy. Without the protection of a guild, no one will fear killing you. The leveling is pretty  standard and straight forward. Content is sorta weak but thats because its a PvP based game not PvE. they have a good amount of "events" to keep you busy and there is a very good variety of locations and mobs. Its solo friendly and group friendly. The community is pretty good. More on the mature side but tend to be "no nonsence" and a bit cut-throat at times. So is the nature of a PvP based game.
If you want arcade type gameplay, go for WoW or SWG. L2 is more "difficult" and unforgiving. (lord, did I just suggest someone play SWG??? sorry ignore that part) L2 is more "challenging" so if you like and have "fun" with a good challenge give it a go. If you want to be amused play WoW.

    3. Is it user-friendly?
Yes (?) depends what you mean. Its not overly complex. Level 1-20 are very simple. If you have trouble with the game through the first 20 levels I would suggest moving on to something else.

    Thanks in advance.

And ignore all the knuckelheaded comments about the bots and buying currency. If you have any skill at all in math / economics its not a problem...a time sink yes, a problem, no.
