Below is a statement by Serpico confirming to us that Vuuarr did say the above statements in IRC Chat:
Thread reopened now that I have the infos : Vuaar indeed said that, confirmed by Vuaar himself.
Some lines are missing in this log - his intent was the following: basically, he asked players to go vote on MMORPG.com, stating that even if - to his opinion, as he precised - DnL was not deserving a 10, it was not deserving a 3 either.
Maybe someone should tell Serpico that Vuuar made those addtional statements AFTER he said:

Originally posted by naldric Someone has to wonder what those 2 last post have anything to do with the OP... but well maybe i will try this pirate thingy later, when i get sick of looking at the DnL forum (but they are so much fun right now )
I think someone was a bit too fast with the reply and didnt bother to see the link
I saw the link, but puzzle pirate is rated 7.9 , and the answers the 2nd and 3rd poster did was about ppl trying to get DnL rating higher, it has nothing to do with puzzle pirate having twice the rating of DnL (and i bet Puzzle Pirate really is twice as fun as DnL lol)
Thats what I said. He didnt bother with the link and probably thought it was another DNL fake rating. Who knows, I am only guessing. Its quite funny actually, Honestly dont believe it deserves an explanation to the point of a debate. Guess we can ream him/her when next he/she posts?
Another half of the bad raitings which are hitting many games that come out, come from the loyal fanboys of WoW. There's a cult following of 12/13 year olds (not to generalize with that age group, I was quite beyond them at that age, and I've known others who are too), or even older, who love their WoW so much they feel any competitor should suffer all ways possible. Nothing wrong with loving a game, but not bashing other games because of it. Do a few searches on the WoW forums on other sites, you'll understand what I'm talking about.
Also people have this anoing tendincy to either rate with 2 or 9, 2 or 9. They've gotta be the 3rd judge from American Idle who calles everything below spitshine polished the worst he's ever seen. You rearly see people now adays who truely have a real standard for rating. The people who mark 5's or 7's are usualy the real critics. I've only ever seen a handfull of games that deserve anything below a 4 (and a 4 to me is very poorly incorperated, but still there showing a bit of effort to look like they cared). Most mmo's out there deserve a solid 7 or the lowest a 6. Next time you judge something, see the colors inbetween the spectrum, not the lazy man's 2 or 9.
Last but not least, a judge must place themselves in the essince of the targeted audiance. If you're not part of that audiance, you can't simply call it crap, you're not evaluating for it's true customer. For example, I work for the Starbucks Coffee Company, our partners are expected to perticipate in coffee taistings. Many of our partners do not enjoy drinking black coffee, but they are still capable and expected to give details about flavor, texture, smell. They personaly wouldn't drink it black, but that doesn't make it 'nasty.' They are still capable of taisting the herbal or earthy tones, nutty flavors, and identifying them in a coffee. If you're the kind of person who only sees nasty, stay the hell away from raiting a game you have no part of. If you can learn to appriciate it for it's targeted audiance, you learn the true spectrum of the raiting meter. I'm not saying that if you didn't have fun with it that you can't give it a low raiting in that matter of aspect, but you mustn't slam it completely because it wasn't that perfect 10.
To me, it has a LOT of bugs and I have no quarel stating so, but it contains eliments I enjoy, things I've looked for in a game. A large world to explore with high altitudes that I can handglide over, a very custamizable class path, and enough complexity to get with the community to learn how something works or figure it out myself. It has a good solid backbone skill system and a combat system that has both simple classic DAoC/EQ style with some unique ideas and bigger umph. Being able to taim animals similar to the whole WoW Hunters, setting traps to spring as enemies stumble through them, effective AoE's that are flashy and effective (worth bothering to cast, really looking forward to seeing the high end Wizard's Armeggedon spells), being able to summon your own miniture undead army as a necromanser and animate corpses ontop of that, plus some great physics with blasting targets back and rolling/falling down steam hills (taking damage as your body smashes against the rocks:-P).
You may point your fingers, I do too, but they are going to come compared to other development teams who've nothing to show for their promises *caugh* SWG *caugh* I'll stick with a buggy game that slowly improves versis a game that abandoned it's ideals long ago
Well of course it's rated twice as high. It's free. It says you can play puzzles and you can. It can be played online without suddenly giving you a good view of your desktop. What they say you can do in game, you can do. Your stats increase in that game within your lifetime.

It is also fun, somrthing the Devs over at NP3 forgot to put in their game.

It's a very common complaint on the DnL board. Most threads have this basic tone:
OP: I'm having trouble. I killed the starting bugs in my starting town, and now my own merchants won't speak to me.
Game Defender: You have gained bad faction with your town's God, this isn't WoW.. You should never have killed the Lvl1 critters that were placed 10 meters from your starting spot..
OP: But what was I supposed to do? Those were the only things I could kill, and none of the NPCs talk to me, so how would I know?
Game Defender: Listen you little kid, get on a ballon and within a few jumps you will be in a starting town you can actually start in.. If you can't handle that, go back to WoW.
OP: But I read that I needed to buy armor to have any chance to live, but it broke and disappeared after 4 kills. Now I'm broke and that ballon costs money to ride, and I don't know where they go.. Help
Game Defender: You should have crafted your armor, then you'd have the money to ride to a starting town and start the game. If you stick with it you will be level 35 by Christmas, if you can't handle that you have ADD and nead medication and a trip back to WoW.
OP: Well I was going to craft some armor, but there is nowhere to craft anything, and the ingredients seem to cost more than just buying it. Also, I don't understand why a loaf of bread costs 10x the amount of a Breatplate.. Does that make sense?
Game Defender: You simply are too immature to understand complex market theory.. You just don't understand that this game has massively complex concepts that WoW can't touch..
OP: Well, I tried, but I'm not having fun.
Game Defender: Fun is going to be implemented in the next patch. As for you; we don't need your type. WoW is destroying the world, but it won't destroy ours. Go away kid..

God knows DnL isn't getting bad ratings becasue it is about as much fun as a root canal. That could never have anything to do withthe sucky ratings now could it.
Never played Puzzle Pirtes myself, but I know a couple of people who swear it is fun.

oh Touche'! and of course DAOC and the people who are hardened by SWG, oh and the people from FFX, and Eq2 and SB, and RFO, and SOR, and oh oh oh GW, AO, UO, D&DO, oh and EVE, yes of course, and by gawd, lets even include Neocron cuz if THAT game can have a higher rating well then DAMN them too! For each and every game out there, there are reasons (some you may have to pull outta your butt to come up with but hey!..its a reason!) that DNL have failed.

The swordfighting puzzle is an exact knockoff of Super Puzzle Fighter, so yes it's much more fun then this. Maybe DnL should have tried just being a direct knockoff of a different MMORPG.
