fun post lvl 60. i.e. game was created as stated by it's devs to be casual player friendly, to be unlike EQ's crap raiding style. they need to go back to that original mission statement.
they shall find the games that offer the most pleasure. those they shall play and enjoy. yet the heathen will balk and demand attention be given to boring games. thus, the new revolution shall begin and the streets shall flow with the blood of the heathen. THEN, shall the believers have games of enjoyment for their leisure time. --book of Ezoran, chapter 13, verses 9-10.

Fun past 60 and a purpose. BG's are like Cisiphus (sp?) forever pushing that boulder up a mountain. Repetitive work that never amounts to anything in the gameworld.
Ill list numerically what i think the game needs to evolve.
1.Armor and gold drops based on levels as a result of winning in PvP.
2.A better crafting system. Most everyone has the same recipes.(player made armor should be BETTER than drops that is what would make a better crafting system.)
3.Guard faction changes for towns.A player kills a guard and when it respawns frinstance it would be horde if an alliance player did the deed.Alliance players would need to kill the horde guards within 1 hour or the "town" would begin to change its appearance. There would be more to it of course.
4.A quest to go from Horde/alliance to Alliance/horde.
5.True consequence for your actions.
Add a bit of the Lineage 2 philosophy on PvP and it would make this game worth playing. In other words open PvP and consequence for being a PK'r.
The way WoW is setup it's easy to play and even easier to kill a player. But would you kill a player if you KNEW that the guards in town were almost godlike and were making you a target if you attempted to enter a town?
All of the above reasons are not outrageous and are not difficult to accomplish.

Others have posted most of these things, but I'll add my own two cents:
1. A real and rewarding alternative to raiding at max level
2. Crafting that produces items that players actually want to use and that do not require raid drops to create.
3. A PvP rank system that does not punish players for taking a night off.
4. Meaningful PvP that affects conditions in the larger world. i.e. Zones of control, or realm-wide bonuses a la DAoC. A non-instanced battleground zone or two would be nice as well. For example, think Alterac Valley, expand it to about five-to-ten times the size and make the whole thing a standard, non-instanced zone. Whichever side is winning gets some server-wide bonus, like increased drop rates or bonus experience or something of that sort.
5. An end to soulbound items... instead, institute a very gradual item decay and put price caps on the Auction House based on item level.
6. There should be some kind of endgame advancement that does not require items.... again, reference DAoC's Realm Ability and Champion Level systems.
I don't honestly believe that any of these things will ever happen, but it's nice to dream.

Content. I'm amazed they're having so much trouble when they obviously made their game very, very easy to level in. What did they expect? Now you'll just see raid after raid as they scramble to keep as many of their 6.5 million subscribers as they can.
We can only drool and dream but all these things that we wish are not practical to Blizz' perspective and are surely not going to happen because we all know that Blizz doesn't really listen to their customers. I'm very active on the WOW forums and they really care less of what you think. Trust me. Yes, I do agree of what you guys think and I really think there are a lot of things they can work on. The PVP rewards are crap even after they buffed it because no matter what the loots dropped by instance bosses are far better than the PVP rewards no matter what. The stats are all there. Just look at it for yourself. It's not even worth PVP in regards to how much time you put in. Literally, 20h/day all the way to rank 14 for 4 months and you get gear that still cannot compare to instance mob drops or 40 man raid quest related rewards. It is a joke.

-- I need a nerf --
They need to bring the WAR back into warcraft for starters.
an accessible endgame.

Zones of dynamic control.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
WoW , where do I start
1) A good Crafting System
2) Player owned structures/housing
3) A skill based system, levels are boring
4) a community thats out of grade school
5) A better PvP ranking system
6) More professions/classes
7) Less credit farmers
There is more but oh well
Some of these are personal preferances but even if your a die hard wow kid, player structures and better crafting should at least be on your list also
Any semblance of complexity.
A highly structured end game PvP.
Going to the BG's gets repetative. We need to be able to take over and control areas. We need a better reward system. More complex and intuitive.
