Looking for a new MMORPG

Howdy everyone. I'm new here and I have a few questions for you, but first I'll give you a little backround. I started FFXI about 2 and a half years ago and quit at the beginning of this year. Most of my friends quit and it just wasnt fun anymore without them. I loved the game loved the system (would have prefered PvP as well but meh) and after I quit I decided to try WoW. In a nutshell I hated it. Almost everyone I talked to acted like they were 9. Long queue lines to get in a server. Also it was extremely easy. I found I had level 20 in a matter of days and enough for a mount from mining. It was just not a challenge or fun to me. So now I'm looking for a new fantasy based MMORPG. Are there any upcoming, new, fairly new mmorpgs out there that have a decent player driven economy and maybe not as easy as WoW? The reason I ask for newer is because it seemed in WoW where everyone was already 60 it was hard to group up with anyone or find any friends to have fun with. I started FFXI when it was fairly new and had lots of fun leveling with new people and doing things with people generally around my level. Thanks in advance guys!

have a look at Ryzom maybe. the forums here have loads of posts that tell you a little about it, very mature community, crafter driven economy with no uber drops, cant comment on how easy it is compared to others as i play it exclusively, but its fair to say it doesnt hold your hand :)

servers down for a massive patch atm so go grab the free trial and join the fun on the all new starter zone on thurday/friday :)

If your looking for a new game i'd suggest Star Sonata. The game itself is about 2 and a half years old, but each time the client updates there are neat features added. Although it doesnt look as good as most of these other MMORPG's, you'd be suprised at how close the community is, and you'll find a bunch of new friends in no time.

But, if your into more fantasy type games it might not be your cup of tea... It hasnt got that much role play in it like WoW would. But at least most of the people act older than 9

First off ppl plz dont tell him rs it sucks, i suggest guild wars its $39.99+tax, its a good game its a free mmorpg game believe me its no waste of cash

Whenever i step outside, somebody claims to see the light
It seems to me that all of us have lost our patience.
    'cause everyone thinks they're right,
And nobody thinks that there just might
Be more than one road to our final destination--

I good game I would recommend to you would be Dark Age of Camelot. This game was released awhile ago, but its glory still hasn't faded. If your in the market for non-pricey games, this is also a winner, the Epic Edition (the newest version) is only 15-20$, and you also get 30 days to try out the game to see if you like it or not. If not you only wasted 15 bucks. But I doubt that will happen, so go ahead try it out, I bet you already see the banners for it up on this site.

as rushin said, ryzom isn't well known but for a niche audince totally awesome. give it a try if youre a part of it ;)
and with ring in the pipeline it can only get better imho (community developed content, rated so you won't have to deal with trash ? brilliant !).

theres also city of heroes/villains. no full-fledged mmorpg but the things it provides are excellent. Issue 7 was released last week with new features. also it's very cheap, you can get a box for 20€ in europe with a free month free (and get the other box afterwards for another free month).

I suggest you try There. There is a 3D virtual immersive enviorment where anything is basically possible. There is very realistic and it is almost as if you are there in There. In There you can create and do almost anything you choose. You are given the tools to create your own world and to choose your own experiences. There is like a canvas, and it is you who is to paint it. You are the artist and developer, the one who will build the future of virtual worlds and help maintain the future of the internet. There may not seem to be what you are looking for but just try it. Once you try it you will almost get hooked immediately. I promise you!

    See you in There!

Wasn't joel originally that guy that wanted to kill himself because he found out that his virtual 'There' girlfriend of one year was actually a guy just playing the part for fun?
