Everyone,

Thanks for all the kind remarks that were given about my editorial.  (with the exception of Squidi's flamebait whining rofl.)  I figured that I'd get some agreements, but for the most part seems I struck a chord, and also everyone who commented did so in a very cordial fashion.

Once again thank you all for your comments.  There also is the version that was "too hot for tv" where I was a little more argumentative.  When I sent that copy in, I was stunned Dana was going to run it as is.  So when changes were made, MMORPG expected me to be angry.  If anything, I would've been shocked had they left em in.  :)

maybe you can post THAT version here ?
    /grin

the article was a nice recap of a few thousand post in the game play forum over at SOE. it's been made clear they don't listen to their player base, maybe an article such as this will help them wake up...

    bwaHAHAHA..

    who am i kiddin' ?

the game's dead. even the nge fan boys are becomming scarse. hopefully other companies will learn from this disaster.

It was very well written, so it's deserved!

And don't mind Squidi, he just wants attention by trying to piss anyone off.  I'm sure that if we all switched sides and started loving the NGE, he would start hating it!

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

You focused an important issue we have all be complaining about: SOE/LA basically said we were not the customers they wanted.  So they made changes intending to attract new ones.  It indeed, was a bad business decision on SOE/LAs part.

could not agree more with the summary. especially the part regarding to the wow effect. its a shame that the devs changed swg in such a reckless way. and in the end, after ignoring all the warnings from the player base it not even turned out to give them more subs - result : less players, less complexity, less diversity, less challenging, overall nothing got enhanced. its the plain opposite.

Don't worry about being politically correct and think you have to have a 'kind' or 'neutral' tone in your editorials... don't be afraid to call it as you see it. If something's crap, call it out as being crap. Not doing so is a diservice to yourself and the community here... so don't sugar coat it -- as long as you're truthfull.

Being argumentative wouldn't have hurt your points at all, in fact, that's what it takes to get the industry to listen and to help generate change.

Change, by the way, is not something I see the industry currently doing.... so the real question is, what's it going to take?

Oh I think the article was still a big punch in the face to SOE/LA.  The stuff that was edited out was me basically kicking them in the groin when they were down so they would never have any offspring.  :)  I'm gonna post the "uncut and uncensored" version on my personal website, and will link to it.

Just a comment, as I said to Kevin, the things I ultimately edited out were largely removed to strengthen the argument. Too much "groin kicking" and it can undermine the core point, which was a very solid one.

Very well written editorial. I hope SOE and LA are hitting themselves on the forehead right now.

I think that is the problem and it has caused brain damage.  I believe they need a new strategy.

That was a great article. Thanks for writing it. I'd like to see an organization form, professionally, to campaign against the current state of SOE/LA. If your interested in helping me, PM me. I'd love to partner up with you! The main point of this organization would be to regularly send notices to LEC/SOE about the current state of the game and what their playerbase really wants. I'd like to gather the support of popular companies, like MMORPG, and IGN, to constantly hype on this MMO disaster. Hopefully, with all the negative attention, something will turn up like we want.

Honestly Piss and vinegar the primary product from SWG players.  Those of us that have put up with the game, hoping it would get better have felt betrayed and not willing to trust many other MMOs. (At least I count myself in that minority.) We all know what SWG should have done. They didn't do it, what we had instead was a reactionary knee jerk reaction in a medium that should take careful planning before putting it out for public scrutiny.

We see our once robust guilds and cities now empty wastelands. We see constant rebalancing of play rules. The one thing that made people leave in the first place, lack of content, is STILL a major fault of SWG. And we also see parts of the net advertising the latest publish as a free expansion. EXPANSION! now all our publishes and bug fixes are expected to be considered free expansions?

In the end, it's nice to see SOE hiding SWG in the station pass so no one can get an accurate read on just how low server populations are. They once had a strong game, but being good just wasn't good enough. I put a lot of the blame on Lucas himself, the same guy that put in a back talking sterotypical rastafarian so that his kids would laugh and he could sell Jar Jar stufties on the net. In the end, the lack of customer value has become a hallmark for lucas arts especially when it comes to their #1 franchise.

Thanks for the article. I enjoyed reading it. Now if we could just get Smed and Julio to read it and comprehend it.

After reading the unedited version you posted I have to say that while I like the "groin" kicks it's better without.

    Anyway, excellent editorial!

Incredibly well written. I'm a 1 year vet that played pre Pub9 and would have to say your article pretty much sumed everything up. Mad props!

Really a well written, thoughtful summation of all that has gone wrong and the effect it has had on the game and I would think the industry.  Maybe they'll include your thoughts when the history of all this mess is finally written.
