A potential new player

Based on what I've been reading the past couple of days, Saga of Ryzom might be the game for me. I've been bunny hopping from MMO to MMO for years now. I originated at Ultima Online around 2000, and haven't felt quite as satisfied since. I missed out (unfortunately) on "oldschool" SWG, but I hear I may have enjoyed it. But after all this time, Ryzom looks very, very hopeful. The skill system (a biggie), the crafting (the second biggie) , the pvp! Housing, player mounts, pack animals, storyline?

Hopefully SoR will live up to my expectations. What can you tell me about it from your experiences? Also, I want to say "hi" to everyone from the official forums! I've been reading you guys for awhile now, but I can't post without an in-game account, which I can't get till the maintenance is finished. :S

Hello Jkun, I hope the game is what you're looking for. As you probably have seen we have quite a few old SWG players in the game. I never played SWG myself, but I heard nice things about how it was.

The player housing (apartments here) is lacking, it's just for storage.
The PVP isn't open like in UO, but requires you tagging up or entering a PVP zone or fight for an outpost.

But apart from that, I like taking my little caravan of packers to a camp near my harvesting spot. And trying to build the perfect harvesting action (skill system uses building blocks that you combine to actions).

Expect the new refugee island to be crowded when the shards are reopening! Most oldies will make an alt to try it out.

yeah i quit SWG back in October 2005 and have been playing WoW since then.  just a couple days ago I was reading through the forums and saw this game!  looks awesome but does anyone know if the company is reliable about that trial thing?  i've heard of some companies charging you for the trial period and i'm just nervous that this may be another one...other than that this game looks perfect for a former SWG player.

Never heard of them scamning, quite the contrary. However if you are uncertain, choose "Pay-By-Cash" option for your trial and you don't need to enter your credit card number.

Keep an eye on this one: http://www.ryzom.com/development/ruins-of-silan-deployment-progression-page the shards are still getting patched

    About reliability:

You don't have to give them a credit card number while on trial. Just select the "Pay by cash" (or something similar, i don't remember exactly) option. If you want to subscribe you can change the payment method later and use a credit card.

I know this since i went through the same procedure 3 weeks ago. Now i am a happy Ryzom citizent.

Yup it's reliable,I tried it myself but just couldnt see myself enjoying it any longer. However you might have some better luck with it.

    Waiting on Guild Wars 2

i liked it, it was very bright and colorful. dark and gloomy games just dont put me inthe right gaming mood. the people have been extremely nice and very well mannered. the community is the most mature i've ever seen in any game which is a huge relief. i was playing eve and this one at the same time to see which one would be the game i stick with until vanguard gets released. although eve is a nice game too, SoR community is what pushed me to finally find a place for now.

This page lets you create a new game account, or manage an existing one.

    Create a new account

If you are a new player, you can create your account here:

    Regular Account
A regular account allows you to play the game indefinitely by paying a subscription
each month. If you have boxed copy of the game, or if you have
purchased the game online, this is the type of account you should
select. You will have to enter a valid serial number (CD-Key) to complete the creation of your account and credit it with 1 month or more (according to the CD-Key).

    Free Trial Account

A free trial account allows you to play the game:
    • Forever (no time limit before paying)
    • Without XP limit (except for the mobs you'll be able to find)
    • Without entering a credit card number to create the trial account
    • Only on Ruins of Silan (access is restricted to the newcomers' island).

To have access to the mainland, you have to convert your trial account
into a paying account. You can then continue playing The Saga of Ryzom
for only $ 14.95 (£ 8.49 or € 12.90), and your account will be credited
    with 1 extra month.

In case you unsubscribe, your account - character(s), stats, and community - will be kept for at least 90 days so that you can continue to play later.
