So i will be new exited ffxi player soon. Title may lead wrong like "help me with quest x" but i mean like some basic question and stuff. I've check'd few ffxi manuals or something but havent found out these things...

Now i will play on xbox 360, so some platform related Q's:

1. There was this chart where was what u need for playing xbox. usb keyboard was recommended but why?
I mean what cons are there to play with keyboard and is it worth buying (or ps2 to usb plug)?

2. When there will be patches, are they free to download with xbox (cuz they r basic things right?) ?

3. If there will be new expansions, can they be downloaded with cost on xbox?

4. are  console (xbox, ps2) interfaces simplyfied from pc? if they are, how much?

and some common (multi platform) Q's:

5. are there really much much ppls on servers? i mean there r kinda few servers for ffxi (atleast compared to wow, eq... so i've understand), and now there is new platform (xbox) to play so i would quess there are : )

6. if u liked wows rogue, eqs scout and so on... is ninja same thing? is there some ninja ability like rogues stealth or eq scouts whatever...?

I know some of these question are so noob or stupid, but would really  appreciate  answers  for those  Q's  u know  :) :) :)                             thx!

i havent played the console versions but lemme answer waht i can:

    1. The keyboard is most likely recomended because its impossible to chat with out one.

    2. most likely if not its robbery

3.prob not because you have to pay for the expansions on the other consoles

    4.not sure

5.i just started up again and there are alot of ppl on. at least on my server. if ur worried about lag id imagine that it would be minimal to none. i play on PC and hardely get lag

6.Ninja can stealth in a way that aggro monsters won't notice them as much. they can aalso duel wield and use pretty powerful "ninjitsu" spells. as for if they are alike the WOW and EQ im not sure ive never played them. if your looking for a more traditional scout id prob go with ranger

and dont worry bout the noobish questions i just joined up again and have some too.

First, Welcome to the FFXI Community, Have fun, and since you will be playing with many other people, Be nice, Having a bad reputation will hurt you later on in the game.

    1) FFXI does not have Voice chat, So in order to communicate You must use the On-Screen Keyboard (Really sucks <.<) Or a USB keyboard. You'll have the choice on either one for controller play or keyboard play (I mean playing the game using the Controller to move char,do macro's, move camera or Do all that with keyboard, Its still highly prefered you get a keyboard since FFXI is VERY party dependant, You'll need to communicate) , Either one is arguablly better, Of course what ever you get used to play with is What you're going to say is better >.> So its up to you, But you should get a Keyboard anyway to type with.

    2) Yes there are patches, The game is in constant update. About every 2 months there's a big patch that include new things into the game. And of course there are little patches to to fix small things or to update PoL. The only thing you'll be paying for is the PoL Subscription(You only need Xbox Live Silver, But there is still a PoL Fee, Even if you have Gold Microsoft servers are not the same as PoL Servers, So don't think if you have a Gold subscription you'll get off without paying for FFXI). As for expansions they do cost extra.

    3) Expansions Cannot be download, They can only be purchased and Installed. As of now there are 3 expansions, Since you're starting on 360 You'll have them all when you begin.

    4) Mmm Don't quite know what you mean, But I think you think FFXI came out on PC first, which is wrong, It was origional a PS2 game that was released on PC. If you could explain this one more I'll try to answer what you're talking about, But I"m confused atm o.O

    5) FFXI has 3 versions, NA, EU, and JP (But people from all over the world can play, They'll just need to buy a copy over the net since it prolly wasn't released in their country) and has been released Across 3 Platforms Ps2, Xbox 360, and PC. Players from all over the world, And on all 3 platforms play togeather each Server. Since its a world wide game, depending on which timzone you get on (example: Logging in a 3 AM in the US you would see few NAs, but many EU & JP players) On Average, There are 2,000-4000 People on at one time.

    6) A lot of people try to compair FFXI to WoW and you just plain can't <.< They're too diffrent. Ninja's have become tanking Classes Like Paladin's. Excpet instead of taking hits, They use evasion and Utsesemi (its a shadow Ninjitsu) to dodge hits.

    1. A keyboard is needed in order to communicate with other players. You will need to use text chat to talk to other players, as you will not be able to voice chat with PC or PS2 players. FFXI is a very party-oriented game, you can't play it if you can't communicate (there is a "soft" keyboard that you can call up on the screen and type with your controller, but this is very slow). Yes, you really should buy one, or an adapter to use your PS/2-plug keyboard.

    2. Patches are free and will be downloaded and installed automatically (if there are any) when you log on to the game.

    3. As no expansions have been released for Xbox yet (the Xbox edition comes bundled with all the existing expansions) I can't say for sure. But all expansions for both PC and PS2 to date you have had to buy at a store. It would surprise me if the Xbox was different.

    4. No, the interfaces is exactly the same between the PS2 and PC. When you put a USB keyboard or mouse on the PS2, it works just like the keyboard and mouse on the PC. When you put a Logitech or other PS2-like gamepad on a PC, it works just like on the PS2. Now, I haven't used the Xbox version, but I imagine that the keyboard & mouse work exactly the same there, too. The controller's different, but I would expect it to work basically the same as well.

    5. The servers always have thousands of people playing on each. You won't be playing in a deserted game.

    6. Thief is closer to rogue than ninja is. Ninja do get nice stealth, but thief gets to steal stuff from mobs (and also improves loot drops) and gets the equivalent of backstab (sneak attack and trick attack) and at the higher levels gets the ability to Hide, which is the best stealth in the game, actually. He also gets flee, which doubles his movement rate for a short time.

None of your questions seemed particularly noob or stupid. I was happy to answer them.
