hmmmmm..... I been meaning to post something like this but never got around to it...

    well anyways...

I myself consider myself an ex-addict.....

I accept that about 6months ago

i was TRULLY addicted to all my games

but rite now its a simple liking of them

YES I DO SPEND ALOT OF TIMWE ON Y PC ( about 2-5 hours a day, depending on the day)

but i only game for about 2-3 hours at the most

YES! gaming addiction is a sad thing...

i did neglect alot of things due to my addiction.....

but now im getting back on track...... I been talking to the girl I loved before my addiction started again, and truthfully i think we are gonna get togheter...finally

so yes gaming can mess ur life up... cuz u do neglect other MORE important things in life

but truly gaming DOES relax me adn takes stress away..

    well thats my 2 cents

OK guys I must go to sleep and get some zzzzzzzz'sssss I must work in the morning but will everyone keep this post going it is very serious and if you do not think it is A serious matter than you are truly an idiot and need more help than addicts.
  • RyeeRyee Member Posts: 14

You know, not everyone that games is an addict.  Then to add insult to injury to tell ppl that if they dont think its a serious problem, they are idiots?  Wrong approach there.

I will however, answer your question.  I have been gaming for many years, infact I was gaming when gaming wasnt cool.

Am I addicted to gaming?  Nope I surely am not.

Do I game alot?  Yeap I surely do.

Does gaming influence my life choices?  Nope not at all.

Does my gaming cause others to wonder if I am sane?  Nope.

Do I ignore real life needs to game?  Again nope.

Do I ever put off going to family or social functions so i can stay home for a raid?  Nope, nope.

Would I die tomorow if I lost my internet and could not game on line?  Absolutely not.

Would my world end if I lost all of my non-online game CD's?  Lol, no way.

    *********************

I think that covered alot of issues...and while I agree that some ppl can become addicted to gaming for I have seen it with my very own eyes...I know that there are many ppl out there that can and do game responsibly.  I have gamed for 10+ hours a day, and I have gamed for many days in a row, but I have also not turned on my comp for days on end.

The kind of games I play involve community, guilds, and or family type situations...so sometimes if I am gone too long, it can affect the game itself...usually tho I game everyday even if its only for a few minutes to stop in and say hello to ppl that I know.

In the end, its all about will-power...as all addictions are closely related to the strengh of a persons mind and how well they can control themselves.

I haven't played a game in almost 2 weeks. And that was ambar, php-browser-based game.

Yeah it is really easy to get addicted to video games...I've caught myself saying aloud "I should go to sleep now" but my hands would be turning on the computer and putting on some headphones...

I was kinda addicted to World of Wacraft for a period. Reallife took some hits. School wasn't the best in that period. It wasn't a all consuming addiction, but I spent a little to much time in the game. Felt really good to stop with it. From now on I only play games that offer casual opportunities. Or if the game doesn't do that I play it casually and don't join any hardcore guilds etc.

It's important to be aware that you can get addicted. Addiction is in a way what drives the mmo games. They have to keep you playing so they can get your money each month. But it's not a problem related to games only. You can get addicted to almost anything as long as your brain likes it.

Yeah I'm addicted. But I can control it though. And it's not damaging my social life.

Am I addicted to gaming?  Damn right
Do I game alot?  Bit of an understatement.
Does gaming influence my life choices?  Nope, other way around.
Does my gaming cause others to wonder if I am sane?  I think I had that market cornered before I started gaming.
Do I ignore real life needs to game?  I ignore real life needs period.
Do I ever put off going to family or social functions so i can stay home for a raid?  Don't raid, but if I can put off social functions I will. I always just end up bored senseless listening to dumbasses ramble on about weather and work.
Would I die tomorow if I lost my internet and could not game on line?  Nope, wouldn't care.
Would my world end if I lost all of my non-online game CD's?  I think I already did. They might be around here somewhere.

I must admit, when Dark Age of Camelot came out, I started playing it, and frankly couldn't stop. It was one of the best gaming experiences I have had to date, and with the recent graphics upgrades and content, it was just to much. So I decided to stop playing because... It was sucking up some of the things I used to do... Like eat. And Sleep. I'm about to subscribe to EvE and hopefully I don't get to addicted to that, because right now I feel a whole lot better than I did when I wasn't eating... Or sleeping... I don't live with my parents anymore, but when I did they hated the fact that I would spend 2-3 horus a day playing DAoC. After I stopped they pretty much enjoyed it.

OldKnight, Im not sure who you are trying to convince but, once someone says they do not have a problem, then maybe you should listen...beleive it or not, there are ppl out there that can handle their vices-good or bad-as I said its all in the strengh of your mind...your will power to control the things around you...I have never let anything influence my thoughts or actions, I control them totally.

I am not your average gamer tho...I am very much older than most ppl who game.  My parents are dead, and even if they were not, why should I take the time to talk to them, if it wasnt something I would do normally?  That just seems to me like you are suggesting to ppl to go out of their norm.

As I said before, I game, I go outside, I talk to my kids and play with my grandmonsters...I have my comp off for days at a time, or sometimes it is left on, but I am no where near it.  It is possible to even be a hard-core gamer without being addicted.

I dont think I ever stated that it was not possible to become addicted to gaming or anything else for that matter...I was just trying to show the other side.  In the end, if you do anything responsibly, you will never become addicted to it.  Hell, I am more addicted to message boards and the management of them, than anything else in my life.

Gaming is no more a phenomenon than television and millions are fixated on tele on a daily basis and yet a smaller minority pay such attention to videogaming - am I an adict? Yes probably but we're all adicted to something right?  I am forever an active gamer who can go hours at a time, there is no shame in that as I am a beta tester, a journalist and a fan but there is no denying I play way too much.

Maybe gaming has helped me make decisions, after all would I be a games journalist in anyway if I didn't enjoy gaming?

Sanity is nothing more than popular opinion.  I try to put off family affairs etc but my girlfriend boots me in-line and seems to always get her way.  So maybe I'm not entirely in control but Rebecca my other half, she's in-line for both of us (only problem is she in turn has her own adiction - fruit machines!)

But what if, let's say, someone has 0 interest in life and have a utter, gigantesque, VOID.

What do you recommend for that person?  David Koresh maybe?  Religions can be nasty as VOID filling.  Peoples with such VOID understand religions all wrong.

You recommend SPORTS maybe?  You know that sports can destroy a human, exercising too hard is worser than no exercising, and if you stop exercising you would have been better to never start exercising at all.  That is a very nasty thing IMO.

You recommend Drugs or Alcoohol?  Thievery?  Illegal activities resolving around crimes?

Gaming is not meant to fill a VOID, but if it does, you don't want to fight it in anyway.  It is harmless and no gamers have troubles to stop gaming.  It is natural however that if you present them nothing which hold interest, they will return to gaming rather than withstand the terrible VOID.

Admin says it:  Gaming is life.

He might or not understand just how right he is.  Gaming is harmless, someone can stop gaming completely, in 1 minute, and never game again.  Just motivated them, and please, avoid all the above example, they are all MUCH worser than gaming.  Work might be better or not, at least the community benefit from work, but on the individual, I am not convince that work is that good.

Gaming save me.  I was heading for a thug life, at the age of 12 I spend much time with police officers.  I found gaming, and I am a productive citizen for 20 years now (yeah I am 32).  Maybe not the best productive citizen, still, productive nonetheless, much better than a thug!  I learn english to game better.  I graduate at the university in the hope to get a job that can afford me to game.  I can stop gaming for 3 weeks without any ill effect and been the nicest person I can be.  Tonight I am tired, I don't game, I chat with you.  Are you proposing I get a cured from that chatting addiction as well?

Gaming is life and gaming save me.  Trash it all you want, it save me.  Remove gaming, I would be in jail today or far worser, I wouldn't have been caught.  With gaming I am kind, honest, sweet, sincere, I don't want to lose the happiness gaming is bringing me.  So am I addicted?  I dunno, if addiction mean been a productive citizen, enjoying life and been able to stop doing it anytime yet longing, within control, to do it because the rest of life is pale and boring, I don't know what to say.

Yet, I show the 'syndroms' you describe, but I know peoples who watch Red Sox all the time, they think you deserve the electric chair if you can't name 5 players in the team and so on.  You are seeing problems where there is a solution.  Gaming is life, it save me and it is part of the solution.

I'm not an addict to video games. I know I used to be. I love playing games though. I great way to releive stress and crush the burden of the world on your shoulders. I hear that real addicts are too addicted that they forget about family, jobs, hygene, etc. It's sad.

Yes they actually do they forget about everthing it's just like drugs when someone become's addicted to them they will do almost everthing to get their next hit, that is just like games some people will hurt their family's and hurt themselves just to paly games 18 + hour's a day.

That is why I want to help you guys who are addicted I have seen in the post's you guys put that yes some of you are addicted but do you know how much you are hurting yourselves? listen people I think of all of you as a friend and do not want anything to happen to any of you because of A game so if you want to talk about getting over game addiction of limiting your playing time then post on here, if you do not anyone to know then please email me at mc13skull@sbcglobal.net And you can ask me questions and I will try to answer them the best you can.

One of the main reasons I am doing this is because I have seen two people kill themselves off the news and one of them one A dear friend to me because his addiction took over his brain and body in both cases of death the victims got some kind fo rope material and hung themselves people this is terrible! if you know someone that is addicted it doesn't even have to be to games please help them I only wish I was there at my friends house that night to save his life but I wasn't so I feel realy bad even thou there was nothing I could do.

So you are trying to be some kind of doctor here? Maybe you should learn writing before you try to do that. Just a tip.
  • OldKnightOldKnight Member Posts: 235

Actually, I do know how to write I am just in A big rush making a new mmorpg called tbadventure.

So I do not have time to make sure every puncuation is correct well also I am not A doctor I have been studying video games and people's reactions to life.

so the next time you want to make An assumption please get the facts all straight that would probally be A good idea.

my parents actually got me off a video game addiction pasth that i was more than likely heading for. Parden my spellin and punctuation its atrocious i know. I love playing video games i'll admit it they take me to a world that doesnt exsist a world where i can actually make something of myself. Anyways i love playing video games and my parent know that so when my grades accidently declined and belive me it wasn't cause of games i actulaay found out i have ADD. Anyways continueing my parents would take away my consoles and i would have to go without and i just realised it but i still love to play but i dont have to play i can play when i wont to in my free time.
