Hey WoW players!
I play Eve-Online and love it, but I'm open minded into seeing what WoW is like.
Anyone care to convince me that WoW is better than Eve?

Recently quit WoW after playing since launch, mailed all my gold, ZG coins and AQ scarabs to friends then uninstalled the filthy whore from my hard drive.

I only played the 14 day trial for EVE but i enjoyed it, if they distributed time cards i'd still be at it, i have issues with credit card's online though.

Give WoW a go, it's great till level 60, but in my humble opinion EvE rewards intelligence and skill alot more.

treat WoW like you would a single player game. play it from lvl 1 to 60 and have fun but then quit and don t look back.

the endgame "content" is pretty much an EQ clone with subpar pvp and a ton of grind thrown in.

Totally agree. Can't complain about the game till i hit 60.It was after that the horror started and funny thing is i knew it was dead boring after a month at 60 but i kept on grinding for months still.Guess i had high expectation of blizzard

See if you can get your hands on trial and check it out yourself.

I'm not sure if I'd compare WoW to Eve, both are differenty types of MMO. There are elements that I enjoy with both. For example, I really enjoy WoW's quest system and ability to customize the UI, while I enjoyed Eve's economy and open PvP.

If you enjoyed the PvP element of Eve, you'll want to join a PvP Server. Once you hit Contested Territory, where niether Alliance or Horde have control over the land, you'll be open to attack and be attacked. You can PvP on a Normal Server, but it's at your discretion.

The EU 10 day recruit-a-friend trials have just been released now. If you ask around i'm sure someone will send you one (you need a credit card though i think).

I fought the desire to play for years - had other games to keep me busy mostly City of Heroes.  But after getting a 10 day trial I have signed up.  You do need a credit card to do the trial but will not be billed or anything.

There is a ton of content on a large world, it is really easy to learn and pick up.  Lots of loot and items.  It is all intiutive and fast paced.  Sure it is oversimplified (like crafting) and I have been spammed with fools wanting to duel low level characters.  But I think the trial really shows off the good stuf in the game.

It seems like fast paced fun and when it gets boring you move on- like any other game.

I wish it was not a crayola crayon box pallet of bright colors but you get used to that and the graphics real fast.

    ---MMO EXPERIENCE:---
    WoW - 06-2006 to current
    COV - 40 Corruptor - 10-2005 to 04-2006
    COH - 50 Scrapper - 04-2004 to 04-2006
    EQ2 - 35 Barb Berserker - 12-2004 to 04-2005
    EQ1 - 55 Barb Warrior - 2000, 2001
Tried: DaoC, DDO, Auto Assault, SWG, Lineage II

I say try the trial of WoW and see how you like it.

I first was addicted to WoW, but after 2 months of playing it became boring and more of a grind both in pvp and pve, so I just quit my subscription.

WoW and EVE are both 2 completely different MMORPG's imo. For me, I'd rather stay with EVE,but ultimately it's your choice.

While it may have adpoted EQ style of raiding it failed to root out the exictement of it.And the rate of release of new content has to be ranked the slowest i ever seen in any mmorpg heck even slower then horizons!

You would think with all the money they could at least hire more developers because for the life of me i cannot think why blizzard is so slow at releasing new content and when it finally finally arrives its quite dissapointing.

  • I can't convince you that WoW is better than Eve, because it is vastly inferior to Eve in many ways.  But you many find WoW fun in a way that Eve is not so you may want to try it out.  Personally I play Auto Assault for that bit of fast paced fun but you might like WoW for it.

Eve has alot going for it, but in some ways its almost more like and RTS.  Its just different gameplay compared to WoW.

seriously just stay with Eve at least until the expansion comes out. WoW is not a great long term game at all the expansion promises to address some issues with new classes and content to wait for the expansion because it will be a lot better than but even at that I would say wait for something better.

Im an old school MMORPG'er and to me WOW is junk. The lack of randomly generated loot makes for cookie cutter characters. Instances make it so that unless you dont have a social life you wont be getting into the very end of the end game stuff (which is the exact same as the first part of end game stuff with new graphics and is slightly harder....big whoop). The world is TINY, you can cover all of it in about 3 hours just running around, how lame is that. and battle grounds make it so that PVP in the world is limited to getting ganked when you are level 20 by a level 60

When I play an MMO i don't want to be like every other player out there, with the same uber sword everyone else has, I dont want to be stuck in a dungeon with a max of 5 people trying to take something out that I'd rather have 200 to do, and I LOVE to explore and feel like im accomplishing something by traversing a dangerous world and finding the "lost" dungeon and defeating it to get my item. Not flying to the local town, running for 2 min on my mount, and then instancing.

The PVE is just atrocious, the world is so small that only certain groups of monsters will spawn in certain areas of a zone, and im not talking big areas, im talking about every 20 square feet will spawn something different, and it will spawn only that.

a tiny world...? You sure your really an mmo vet..?

to the op: If you enjoy EVE, then there is a big chance you won't enjoy WoW, because you are used to the freedom of EVE, and WoW doesn't have that much freedom. the world of WoW is pretty big and full of detail, so if you like exploring, then there is a big chance you will like WoW. there is a free trial going on, why don't you give it a go?

I'm sorry, but am I supposed to be convincing you to buy this game or not buy it?

I don't recommend this game to anyone!  I just got it about 2 months ago and I've regreted it ever since.  First of all, some people like the graphics, but I think the graphics are a little outdated, and the characters (esp. the dwarves) are cartoon like.  And I know what a lot of you are going to say... "that's just because your g-card is outdated." but that is very untrue, I have dual NVIDIA Geforce 7800 GT's so thats definetly not the problem.    secondly, I tried to cancel my subscription halfway into the month to at least get some of my money back and they wouldn't let me.  I called the "help" hotline and they put me on hold for a long time then someone finally answered then he couldn't help me so he put me thru to his boss, which i never got to talk to because I was on hold so long that I gave up and hung up the phone.

But hey just because I don't like the game doesn't mean you won't, a lot of people do enjoy this game.  In fact they have over 5 million online, but if you want my opinion go with everquest 2.  I am currently suscribed to EQ2 and I love it!

    game... loading

    still not loaded?

so um, wow is equal in footage to what?  one of swg's worlds?  maybe two if you count all the instances (and we'll throw in the instance due to come out in 1.12 yayaya more raids).

equal to the original uo in size?  MAYBE part of the new lands (whatever that first expansion was).

wow has pretty colors and is dummied down to the point of stupidity (can't even choose where to put your stats, like dex, int, str, and such).  play for a bit, when you hit the barrens, you'll see what i mean about stupidity.  nothing but idiots running around spamming for help on every bloody quest they get because they either really don't understand the INCREDIBLY simple instructions or they're REALLY stupid, or REALLY lazy; honestly, i think it's all three for the most part.  although a lot will say they're lazy, they're really also stupid.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

You know, I would actually write a reply thats worth reading if you didn´t behave like a pathetic WoW hater. you jump in with your anti-WoW crusade in about every topic about WoW. your not reasonable, and thats just sad. I geuss I found out what the 7 in your name means. Bash WoW 7 days a week. sad, very sad.

Its his oppinion, not a fact. I normally respect other people´s oppinion, but I usually take Damian7´s oppinion with a bit of salt. if you read more of his posts, then you can see he is on some sort of anti-WoW campaing for a couple of weeks/months now.

    Convince yourself.

Eve is a rich, deep and boring game.

Wow is a shallow, beautiful game that's fun as hell.

I would definitely play WoW at least once in one's lifetime.

I've played WoW for about year and half or so, off and on. I just recently quit it, sold my account for 800, and all goodness. I would with out a doubt suggest it to anybody to try and play, because it is a ton of fun till 60, even when your L59 trying desperately to get 60, I enjoyed it, however the end game is boring. There is NO point to PvP at all except to maybe toot your own horn, but thats difficult without having the ability to trash talk the enemies :P I've done the PvP ranking system up till Warlord, it no test of skill, purely of endurance and time, I mean some of the groups I ran with to get Honor, were absolute chicken shits. They cared not at all about PvP, just wanted the gear to have it, and they would scout games to make sure they got 8 minute wsg games everytime. End Game raiding is fun for a while, up till you have Molten Core on Farm status, it is fun to learn new boss encounters and then get loot. Afterwards, MC fun is totally gone, it's nothing but a place to get maybe an upgrade, and DKP for future 40 man raids. However, once again, I suggest playing it to 60, if you aren't an insane power gamer, that could be 2 months of content probably, and definitely well worth it. PvP servers are fun for a while, they loose their touch down the road, and PvE(Normal) are same thing without worries of some pre-pubeplescent 13 year old camping your corpse for hours :P

EVE Online and WoW are very different games as far as they are played, how they look, I mean everything.

Yes...this is WoW like I remember it...good summary..;).
I would never recommend it to anybody...in addition this game has no content except grinding, farming and high level raid-bashing...but the most important thing...this game and its ooc-players just kill any roleplaying...playing this game is a real torture.

Yes, yes, yes! This could not be more true. EQ had a radi/xp grind that was addicting, WoW has a grind that is mundane at best.  I'm not saying all mmos need to have the grind, obviously it is subjective and not for all.  But the ones that do have it need to do it better than WoW has.

They do have time cards, plus you can even -legally- buy time cards from people for EVE money... so you can play for free.

Like most people have said, you'll love WoW until level 60 as the PvP is lacking... and even if you make Rank 14, then what? Yup, you'll quit like everyone else.
