I am currently looking for a new mmorpg to really get addicted to, like I did with Asheron's Call for 6 years after it came out.
I am looking for a game that is like that, only it is free. I really miss the old way of playing MMORPGs, since pretty much every new one is basically the same. I must admit that I am part of the WoW Haters Movement because I think that that game is blown out of proportion.
But does anyone have a good one that would fit sort of what I want? I want it free to play, no subscription fees.
Thanks...

Well, I am sure you know what I mean when I say good.
Good FOR BEING Free, if you prefer...
anyone with a part time job can afford any pay to play mmos..
you can't be living off of free mmos your whole life eventually most of them will go pay to play and most internet users will not understand that.
free mmos would be nice however hosting it can cost an arm and a leg. and free also means it is open to abuse.
Even though many people here can debate for years on end on whether or not this game is an MMORPG, I still think it's a well done, solid game.
Guild Wars & Guild Wars Factions, definately worth the price of admission, it has quests, in hub towns you have other players, or if you can't find a group, you can take a crew of NPC party members with you. If you go with NPC party members, you do take an xp and gold split, but all loot goes to you so no fear of losing something you would be lookng for.
it has banks, merchants, all weapons and armor are crafted, with the odd drop out there, but nothing so uber to the point of being overpowered.
don't feel like grinding, you can go straight into pvp territory by making a top level character from the start.
or if you want to experience and see everything the game has to offer, you can create a new character and play through both campaigns.
My main game currently is Lineage2, and I still flirt with GW, but when I was inbetween paid mmos GW provided me with more than enough entertainment - with no subscription fee.
Current Games:
I own both Guild Wars and Factions, and I believe that they are not MMORPGs. I don't really like them because they are not open-ended, they are region based, and come on! You have to be on a team to see other people outside the town, that's dumb.
But thanks for the suggestions.

look thorugh the sticky with free mmo's ^^
If your not bothered by bad (old*) grafic I recomend Anarchy Online, you can play the first part of the game for free and it's alot of gametime if you like it.
There are a ton of free "MMO's" out there right now. Most of them are not my type of game, however.
The most popular ones right now are probably SilkRoad Online - http://www.silkroadonline, FlyFF - http://english.flyff.com, and of course ShadowBane - http://shadowbane.ubisoft.com, while it lasts.
There are many others. As mentioned above, Guild Wars is a pretty good game. But I simply cannot label it an MMO as you rarely interact with anyone else. I consider Guild Wars a multi player co-op or PvP game with a 3D interactive lobby. But still a good game.
Pick 2.
You could try that new MMO that's on the Ads on the MMORPG webpage
deicide I think it is.
Like many people are saying, good and free don't exist.. only Closed beta type of games would be worth trying.
If they are saying it isn't a MMO then why does everyone else have to even mention/debate the topic.
Anyone that really plays GW and hasn't been to the website isn't really a big fan of it. It's the first place that posts what game updates have been released. And for no monthly fee, can always use it as a fall-back game. If you don't like PvP, GvG, and if you have factions AvA combat, then you won't like this game. That's the reason it's called Guild Wars. It's about Guilds getting together and fithing in a PvP-based environment.
And honestly, I prefer the instanced explorable regions as you don't find griefers/campers farming somewhere you have to go and kill "so-and-so" when you get there. I've played other MMO's and that's always my biggest complaint. Now people can farm all they want, and it doesn't bother me in the least, as I don't see it.

Well, it is listed on this site. That's one (very good) reason to talk about it.
And I'm not dissing the game in any way. I enjoy playing GuildWars. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys playing MMO's, especially if they play MMO's with a "core group of friends." Such groups transition over to GuildWars very well. The lack of a montly fee makes it all that much better. But a lot of folks refer to GW as an MMO. I don't think it is. I was just stating that.
but it uses alot of space. I love maplestory
Which FF Character Are You?
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Shadowbane yet. It's free now, FYI, and the pvp is quite fun.

It's almost 100% open PK though, and you lose your inventory when someone kills you, so it definately isn't for whiny carebears. Keep that in mind.
If anyone is thinking about starting, I reccomend starting on the server: Wrath.
