Wow.
you are a better man than me then. Cause from looks of it this baby aint coming out (if it comes out at all) for a looooong time. They didn't even have anything to show at E3.
Me? I'm still playing WoW just because I can't get used to real life
However, end of this year or early 2007 Age of Conan will be coming out.
Maybe you should give that a shot if it reviews well and what not.
- factional pvp
- pk/anti pk pvp
- trading
- crafting
- pvp, adventure, quests
- empire building
- city building
- skill based
- no autotarget, fast paced combat
- player looting
- thievery
- naval combat
- mounted combat
- city siege
- and and and
So yes, i think it is worth to wait until it comes out. Even if it took another couple of years.
I agree, gameload..
However, I am not really HUGE into role play. So that would'nt bother me terribly. That said, the kind of community that this type of game could turn out to be what many of us dread.
I think you all know what I mean
Most MMO on the market are designed to force you to play the devs want you to play. And if you don't play by their rules/vision, it gets fixed so you have to.
Just because there is a high amount of freedom like Darkfall offers, doesn't mean it will be a pure gankfest. Things like alignment, faction, etc. help keep a lot of that in check. Someone makes a human and goes crazy killing other humans soon finds themselves without anywhere to go as they'll be killed on sight in any town they go to, etc.
The best MMOs will have freedom of choice and consquences. Without those, you're just playing for someone else, IMO.

I don't see any part where this game is "ridiculous based on pvp". But I see a well thought-out pvp-system that provides me with a feeling of realism...and hell this is the rp-dream I've been waiting for. Not crap like in other games...unable to attack someome who annoys you..not able to help the "enemy"...whatever. And the best...here you need real skill...here is no super-roxxor-on-click-death-attack or damn I-bash-you-all-super-rar-equipment. Here is freedom..realism...real skill....a real dream for me as a roleplayer.
Absolutely right...it's frustrating.
Damn right, too...:)
Damn right, too...:)QFT

Everyting else just looks... crap. There is no comparing in any other game... everyting else is just... crap.
I wish there were, but no.
I beg you, show me any other game that has the freedon that this game offers... none.
Uo pretty much gives you freedom to do wahtever, especially in Felluca.

Conan's screenshots look good, but the game play vid they released looked awful. Plus, I'm not a big fan of Funcom as I don't feel AO ever became a good game. Conan might turn out to be good, however I haven't seen a good game based off of a licensed background (movies/books/etc.).
And if its got instances, screw it, instances suck and take away the 'Massive' part of MMO.
Conan has very few things listed under its features, very little detail of how much PvP there is allowed, etc. Does AoC offer:
Naval Combat?
Skill based, not level based?
Those are two major features of DFO that I don't believe AoC offers, but I don't know for sure as I haven't followed much of AoC.
Niccoli
lol
all these features are promised features.. lets wait till both games comes out and then see.... even tho i think AoC will be released 6 months ahead of Darkfall...

Read something more about the PVP-Features before whining. Darkfall isn't WoW or anything like that...remember that.

Oh, so if i want something that you dont want, its called whining eh? Last time i checked whining means complaining, not wishing. With attitude like this, there will not be much PvPing in Darkfall becuase it takes 2 to PvP.

Yeah I post a lot, but I just recently noticed Darkfall. Im very curious about it (along with several other MMOs that are coming out). I posted what I hope to get from the game, but apparently im whining or something becuase Darkfall is not WoW for some reason and I probably should go play WoW (even though I havent played it in half a year). Nice. Does every newcommer gets slapped in the face here?

sorry friend, but yes, you might as well look elsewhere.
from official faq:
Will you offer a world without PvP for those of us that do not enjoy it?
We like to think of Darkfall as a game where there are no restrictions to player interaction that don’t make sense. The fantasy literature and mythology that inspired fantasy based RPGs contains conflict, combat and warfare and its part of what made these worlds so dramatic, the characters so heroic, and the endings so rewarding. Having said that, we’re sorry, but we cannot offer a “softer” version of Darkfall.
you may be thinking "that doesnt matter, they will cave once they realize how many more people they could have playing the game", no, they wont. ive been following DF for years, and have read every interview, every irc, every blog that has come from the devs and theyve stated probably 27.8x10^5 times that they will never compromise their position on this subject.
and if they do change their position ill pay anyone who says they ever disagreed with me on the subject 50 dollars, paypal baby.
I think what that guy meant when he said this isnt WoW was that what you are wearing or how many skills your toon has doesnt mean as much as in other games. Actual player skills mean more.
Yeah i cant wait for an open ended pvp system either.
Coming from WoW its going to be such a change of pace, im so sick of PvE i could never raid again in my life and be fine with it :P
Anyway, In general, i dont mind PvP, what I mind is unfair PvP (ganking, unfair combat etc). So, my next question is: would PvP in DF be anything like in Planetside? I love planetside becuase it is pure PvP (no PvE content whatsoever) AND on top of that, any level 1 character can compete with top characters, so there is no ganking per se. Is DF like that or different?
PS: I realize that I could probably get my answers if i spend hours browsing through official site/forums, but unfortunately I dont have that much time and my interests are broad so I have to check like 5-10 different game sites to read on them all. Thats why I love MMORPG, its like having 50 official gamesites in 1, and people usualy are kind enough to answer my questions politely...usually

there are a few things that are going to make pvp more fair and less of a gankfest overall in Darkfall.
why do people gank noobs in other mmo's? because they know their level 50+ is automatically gonna own the level 8 (or whatever), because they have nothing better to do, and because there are no real consequences.
darkfall is not level based, it is skill based, ala ultima online. you start doing something and you get better at it, ie pick up a sword and start using it on things and your sword skill % goes up, maybe opening new sword related abilities and increasing speed a little bit. this skill based system allows for HUGE character customization, and more interesting play environment since you never know exactly which skills your enemy is going to throw at you, or which skills your friend is going to save your ass with. anyways, this skill based system is ideal for a game such as darkfall where pvp has so few restrictions since there is less of a gap between a noob and fully specced out guy (it woudlnt be like a level 1 vs level 60, the level ratio would be much much less). keep in mind in darkfall you have to aim your swings/spells/arrows yourself, so even if youve got some nice fireball skills, your still going to need to be able to hit your opponent with them. this means that 4 noobs can take down a fully specced out warrior, the devs have stated this many times. the npc capitols (noob central, where new people get to learn the ropes, essentially) are the closest thing to safezones in the game, with the most and highest level gaurds patroling them, so the noobs always have strong back up.
^^^that removes 1 reason for ganking, it isnt exactly easy pickins any more^^^
a big reason people gank noobs is because they have nothing better to do. darkfall will keep the people who fall into this category busy, pretty much at all times, and besides that, darkfall will turn noobs into ASSETS. the primary meat of darkfall is its race vs. race and clan vs. clan pvp systems. sieging other clans cities (there are player made cities in darkfall) will be huge, trying to claim their right to the land for taxing purposes, and to get ahold of their resources and what not... maybe its a market center and youll profit a lot by controlling it. anyways, anyone in a clan (probably everyone with more than 10 hours logged into the game) is going to be VERY interested in the welfare of their clan assets (cities, outposts, siege operations, etc.) and the various clan and inter-clan activities (trade, fighting) is going to keep them very busy. it's pretty much the ultimate endgame, at least in the eyes of most those who follow darkfall. also, you want your clan to be strong, and if your sane, you dont want your clan to be hated. how do you make your clan stronger? you bring in noobs that conform to your clan's ideal and you help them, you train them and make the strong. how do you keep your clan from being hated (being hated is not a good thing to do, when there are no artificial pvp systems protecting you)? you dont pick on the playerbase, especially the noobs, as that is seen as one of the most shameful activities one can do.
^^^that removes the 2nd reason for ganking noobs, the usual gankers will now be busy with clan and inter-clan activities/systems, and noobs are now assets^^^
in a game without a fully open pvp system, griefers and gankers can do what they do, and then dissapear behind an artificial barrier which will protect them. star wars galaxies? people would gank and then go back covert, the people who got ganked unable to retaliate. other games, people can just run into safe zones, or into an instance, etc. in darkfall you will be held acountable for your actions, and you will have to suffer the consequences, nothing but your own sword is going to protect you from community-controlled justice. again, since noobs are an asset, if you kill noobs belonging or under the care of a clan, you can look forward to some painful form of retaliation. in a game with death penalties like full loot, where you only respawn with the most basic of gear, greifing noobs isnt even worth the risk vs. reward (even though in darkfall there is no reward in the first place, there are only negatives), since the noob respawns with basic gear, which is probably comparable to what they were just using in the first place, and the veteran looses a lot better equipment when they die. its just not a good deal, any way you look at it lol.
^^^that takes care of how in other noob-griefer ridden games there are no consequences^^^
now i make it seem like there will be no noob-griefing... there most definately will be, but now you can actually do something about it. i believe the first week(s) of beta/release are gonna be crazy, FFA mayhem, but then it will definately settle down as the community begins to form.
