I prefer Square over Blizzard, both on single-player and MMO levels.
I suppose I'm more in it for the story than the gameplay in any game (though I don't ignore the mechanics in any way), so Squenix has -alot- of plusses there with me. The Diablo story was decent but the gameplay wasn't really my thing, and I find the entire Warcraft story to have alot of breadth but no depth. It's one thing to throw in a thousand cool things, its another to make them interesting and actually matter. Starcraft I just never got into, because at the time I wasn't really a sci-fi fan.
MMORPG-wise I really have to say FFXI is far far better than WoW. And I'm not saying this as a fanboi either. WoW entertained me for a week the first time I played it. I hit level 27, realized that was -way- too fast, and just dropped the game. I came back to it a month ago and rolled a new character, played to level 46 in about two weeks, the last 6 levels feeling really dull. I got my mount, felt like I had nothing left to achieve (that I wanted to achieve), and just lost all interest in WoW from that point on.
FFXI when I first bought the game at release really disappointed me. It was a horrible experience for me at the time, with what I thought were harsh grouping requirements and a really weak combat system. Then about a year ago I picked it back up and started working through it, met a really great bunch of people to play with and as I got further into the game I was really sucked in. I've quit a couple of times for a month or so due to frustrations/trying new things/RL issues but the game has alot of things WoW doesnt offer me. The community is definately far better than WoW. I keep making new friends every day in the game, whereas in WoW I have about 5 people on my friends list at level 46, and only one logs on regularly. The other thing that I think is more important though is FFXI actually challenges me and gives me something to accomplish. I get an adrenaline rush in FF that I never have anywhere else, and there's still so many things that I haven't even begun to explore.
Think that's a long enough post now =P Squenix > Blizz
Im not really disagreeing, but I went back to FF after a year or so.. on shiva, and the economy had changed so much that is was much easier to level at an extremely fast pace (because I could get alot of equipment and accessories at lower levels than before). I did eventually get bored though more because I really didnt know very many people.. and the people I did know werent online.. so kind of like your experience in WoW it seems.
And as for Warcraft 3 and Starcraft, really I thought Age of Empires II was so much better I couldnt really play either of those games.
Story line: the FF series has always been ahead of its time and the first few FF's were kind of the pioneers of the rpg genre.
Style: I have always favored the anime style over any american cartoon creation (dont know why, its just what I like I guess).
Graphics: Yes I know its a shallow reason to hype a game because of it's graphics but I have always felt everytime they release a FF it seems to be ahead of it's time. Also, some really sweet CGI came about when FF7 hit the gaming world.
Square create the game from they imajinations. They imajination make all gamer fun and enjoy to playing all game Square.Do you look from Final Fantasy XI Online. This game give colourfull of the world with great nature. The romance style make all gamer love all game Square. If Blizzard! This developer is famous in PC.So if you chose this it because Blizzard have a lot of experience in PC.
So..i like Blizzard and Square but for + value i choose Square. If you know Imajination more than science.

ya know, people like to say graphics AREN'T a reason they do/don't play a game, but i have to say, graphics definitely have a yay/nay for me in a game.
swg - i'd have played it longer (pre cu of course) if i'd have liked it's graphics better. uo - i'd probably still be playing if they'd have ever REALLY updated their graphics engine. several other games out there, i really like the game itself, but the graphics are just such a turn off...
i don't think that liking/disliking a game is as shallow as people would first believe. when you first notice a guy/gal -- are you thinking "hot brain on that one~!!"; or, have a lot of your meaningful relationships (possibly even THE relationship that lasts your lifetime) begun with "mmm mmmm good looking!" going thru your brain?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Originally posted by lomiller Blizzard is just a label not a company. The actual company is the games division of Vivendi Universal, who also make all the unmitigated crap that is released under the Sierra name. Averaging the “pretty good” of Blizzard with the “unmitigated crap” of Sierra leaves you well behind squaresoft IMO.
You didn't like Quest for Glory or Kings Quest?
