Question about new expansion

in Final Fantasy XI
Is it necessary to play right away. I've played FFXI before and lost my discs, I want to come back but I dont want to drop all the money right away if it isnt necessary. What level does the content from the new XP become useful?

    You can get the new jobs at lv 30, quests start in expansion area. If you're not interested in the jobs wait til 50, that's the minimum level for the Assault Missions.
