Since the first alternative thread seems to be devoted to Saga of Ryzom which is a good possibllity and it is avialable now my clan, Age of Judgement will be moving to Vanguard - Saga of heros because it seems to have the most varied gameplay.
It will have all the conventional quests and raids, etc.
It will be a seamless huge world although on many different servers.
Servers will have different rule sets. The devs stated they will try out various roleplay and PvP rulesets.
It will have a player based economy.
Most importantly, it will have player built houses and outposts. The outposts are planned to be needed only for a short time for giving a benifit for a complex quest arc or mineral extraction. Yet having outposts will provide needed flexibility for roleplay, and something meaningful for PvP on those servers.
Players will get horses nearly from the start for holding exta armor, weapons, etc.
Beta 3 will soon start and they will begin inviting guilds as well has those who have a beta key from Computer Games magazine
.
ahem, it has potential lol.

I am tellin ya this ones gonna pull hrough this time!! shoulda seen the resume of one of the lead devs post in chat a while back..
another perpetual development game ? Seriously I wish em luck, but I put that one in the wake me when it goes gold catagory. Don't worry it won't be lonley there a lot of other games in there to keep it company.
On another note though that makes a good point in that thereare so many other inovative games out there some released some still in development. Why waste time and money on DnL?

I palyed Ryzom and it is a solid game, the only annyoing thing about it, that you need at least 2 players to be able to advance in it, it's extremely slow alone.
About Vanguard, it's worse than DnL, just look for beta testers comments. 4 and a half year in the making and the devs are asking players now how they want the game to be... a bit scary.

ROFL, well, you certainly insulted Vanguard, so you accomplished what you wanted. But even if Vanguard is dull and boring, it'll be way better than DnL just for the quality, IMO of course.
I don't think anything will be as bad as DnL. Hell, I have never been in a beta as bad as DnL in its released state.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Well, there are no games like what DnL promised.
But there are games where you can have your guild fighting for power instead. Vanguard is not PvP focused, it is PvE focused, and is going to be focused on PvE. So if you want to rule a kingdom or some land;
Lineage II (only bad thing; early stages (lower lvls) its hard, and the economy is really really bad. Costs a fortune to get a weapon. Overall, great game with politics and everything you would have liked to see in DnL. Just no emphasis on crafting though it is there.
Then another alternative is Archlord, which is another Korean game comming out later on this year hopefully. Beta will be starting soon, and its already Open beta in Korea. Yeah its a Korean game with a hell of a grind, but the ideas for GvG combat are there. You get to be the ruler of the world for one month and all that, and at the end of that month you are given the chance to hold your rulership for longer, or else be challenged by another guild. Looks good and fun, not sure about all the features, but its got its politics and all that DnL doesn't have already in....so you can't be worried. Anyway, I can't say its going to be a good game, since I have not played it yet. Anyway, check it out.
Have to put something up!
Well, let me put it like this...SOE make good publicity for their games and they sell well. Then they screw the community over, by turning those same games (which were mostly good at the start) to crap. Look at EQ2 and SWG.
If you look at the playerbases of Everquest and SWG: 75% of those original players have left the games because of SOE's screw-ups and will never play a game published by SOE again.
Maybe they only publish it, but mark my words, the game will quickly degenerate into crap, like the other SOE games have.
Still, it gives them an advantage over Blizzard, I guess: WoW was crap from the start
