Not sure what everyone has against WoW. It's only the most brilliant, well-made, successful game out there. If you people will get over your anti-majority views and look at some of the communities that exist inside WoW you would be happy if they came over to War.
What you also don't understand is that Warcraft broke open the mould for MMO's. Before WoW there wasn't 1/10 of the population that even heard of an MMO.

WoW is a dumbed down version of every MMO that came before it, it did nothing new or wonderful. It broke open the MMORPG market because it was Warcraft not because it did anything new.
It had its moments, in fact I still go back to it every once in a while as my "alt MMO" but it also broke a lot of promises over PvP and raiding.
WoW has been very very bad for the older skool MMORPG players because now everyone making a MMO feels that the only way you can make a MMO is if you dumb it down, stick on a bad PvP system and make end game a massive raid grind.
WoW is a great game, but if WAR is anything like it I won't be playing. Good job I don't think it will be!
I don't think it will 'suck' in your terms, ALL MMOs get the forum trolls, the item whores, the farmers, the hackers etc etc.. it's just that poor WoW having built a somewhat crude bridge between massmultis and single player worlds has had them 'on mass' so to speak, many have gone off and opted of the 'free' games (such as GW) whereas others have ditched the MMO world back to 'singleplayerdom'
WAR WILL have it's share of bad players but i dought they wont be as on mass as WoW has had them, certainly not past the beta stages..

From the information given WAR will be a contrast to WOW and offer more in the PVP area although unlike WoW it hasn't shown much in the PVE area... yet.. Yes WoW is a very basic MMO with PVP tacked on sadly but as I've said in other topics WAR is hot on Blizzard's heels and is mustering up 'better' content in an effort to keep it's players base, this if works well will work in the player's favour as if WAR does become as good as it is on paper, both games will be trying to out do each other and hoppfully we will ethier have: 1) Two very good MMOs catering for all players or 2) one heck of a good MMO from the vitor of the two
Warhammer 40k and Warhammer players are going to play WAR. Not so much the WoW kiddies. The older members of WoW will probably play the game. Since most of the people I know in WoW have played the table top. Every game has its A-holes you can't do much about that. Just deal and move on.
Now if the brainwashed fanbois are done with their "WoW is teh greatest because I just got it and I can PWN teh nubz0rz in PvP! LOLZ" I really wouldn't like to go and prove how wrong they are since they didn't know what the promises blizzard made and will never keep since closed beta. Yeah it gets on my nerves just how many promises they ignored with WoW.
And NOW they think they don't have to bother because they are dragging in so much cash.
I quit WoW because of all ther Chuck Norris jokes, That's 90% of what WoW seems to be.
And few people have much vs WoW as a game... except the fact it is geared to please the <18yo crowd. And has more 13-15yos playing it than likely any other game ever made. People are what defines a MMO. WoW is defined by 80% of it's players being too young to walk into the back section of a video store.
People for the most part prefer to interact with people near their own age/maturity level.
All adults know how they feel when they are hosting a party for 20 twelve year olds. Like they are going crazy. The fact the kids act 300% worse online than they do in real life just makes it that much horrible on the older MMO players.
It used to be 26+ year olds didn't like the 16-22 Year olds playing games with them. They thought they are immature and ignorant.
Now we have 15-20 year olds that don't like playing with the 10-14 year olds and the 26+ year olds that don't like playing with either.
Basicacly before WoW you had to have a job in order to play a MMO. WoW brought in all the people that are too young to even work and just have mommy and daddy paying for them. Which seem to identify themselves by saying the words infer that everyperson other than theirself prefers to select sexual partners the same gender as themselves. And infer that they have had more "Action" they any other man on the earth.
That is annoying to many of us.
This is a complete sterotype... but you know what... You all have to live with it. You go on WoW in barrens and in 10mins you'll see more explict words then you'd hear at a rap concert. I'm sure their are lots of normal people that simpely don't talk in local chat and such and you remember what you see... not what you don't see. You remember the 14yo that got pregnant not the 99% that didn't.
All they need to do is put in a exp system like they had when DAoC first came out. LvL 40+ it took 10+ hours to gain one level... and if you died you lost about an hour of play time. At least that way I'd have some respect for anyone that reaches cap level for stick it out to the end of a hard game.

No you didn't, in fact to seriously play something like EQ you needed to not have a job so that you could devote insane amounts of time to the game, and be ready to respond when a spawn popped up.

I don't have respect for people who spend absurd amounts of time playing online games, especially when they play them extrmely conservatively (like harsh death penalties encourage) and won't try anything new. What would be the point of me even playing war if I lose a 5 minute PVP fight and have to spend an hour recovering? It's only 'hard' in the sense that people with actual jobs don't have unlimited time, it doesn't require any king of skill in the game. Judgine from their comments so far, there's no danger of WAR turning into what you seem to want it to be. Go play L2 if you want a PVP game with insane amounts of grinding and lots of time to recover from a death, I'll take what looks like it's actually going to be a good game.

If you don't understand the difference between a fanboi and someone who appreciates good work, then you sir are an idiot. Blizzard has been a cutting edge company throughout their entire history. Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Diablo 2, WoW, have all been of the highest quality. This is why the company has such a huge following.
Having played 95% of the other MMO's (and dedicating a significant amount of time on each), I can safely say that WoW has incorporated elements of gameplay that no other company even imagined. Does the fact that they have 6 MILLION subscribers using mostly word of mouth advertising say anything to you?
Who gives a shit about promises? Every MMO has to scale back their original design if they want to get the game out to the players. My comments are neither retarded or biased. The god damn statistics speak for themselves. Need more proof? How many people do you think were playing (insert any other MMO here) and tried to convince their friends/family/partners to play alongside them? Probably not nearly as many as WoW. It's not because it caters to the vast majority, it's because the game is fun (or a lot less frustrating then most MMO's).
So instead of calling me a fanboi, why don't you provide a meaningful contribution to this thread instead of making yourself look like an ass?
WoW is a PvE'ers game, and it always will be. WAR will be a PvP'ers game and it will easily filter out the WoW carebear types, that just want to sit outside the auction house showing off their epic gear.
Fair enough if they get satisfaction out of that, that's their thing and they can do what they like. Personally I need a better goal than wishing for a drop from some AI boss out of some instance, and for me it's being apart of a great team that has fun killing the opposing force in PvP... that's why i play EVE, and have always been into FPS's.

Beleive it or not, it's the PVE elements of a game that attracts players and keeps them playing. Although I think a good game is a healthy mix of both, people that yell about carebears don't really understand what makes a good MMO.
Why do you think the next successful games outside of WoW were Everquest and Lineage 2? Because they had a lot of PVE content (and harsh pvp penalties when it comes to L2).
Us Pvpers are in the minority. As much as i'd like to think otherwise, the 'carebears' are needed in a game. Ever play on an ultima online or shadowbane server with a low population? It sucks! If you want a pure pvp game there is always counterstrike.
are you talking about the acheiver killer explorer socializer table ?
war i think will fit all 4. Acheiver items and probly dungeon crawl areas. Killer well rvr from the get go. Skirmishes ect.
socializer well they got a chat box and explorer im not sure. They hopefully add some secret areas or something for them to find and brag about finding.

Let's wait until WAR is released, then we'll see who the minority is.
I wasn't around in the MMO scene when EQ was about, i was busy playing FPS's like Day of Defeat (yes, i played CS, but that game lacks a point... how many people have ever planted the bomb, or rescued the hostages? heh). With MMO's changing and becomming more popular, we will see more PvP'ers that come from FPS backgrounds that want more from a game that CS can offer.
I didn't mean to upset anyone by mentioning the word carebear, as i think they're an important part of any MMO too (i like to pick on them in EVE, muah! jk...ish ;P). But EQ could only have been so popular with PvE content, because PvE is all it had... there needs to be a balance in PvP and PvE, so far all these MMOs -like WoW and EQ2- are all done with PvE in mind and then PvP splashed on top. WAR is different, it's vise-versa so we'll see a new breed of gamers coming from all sorts of places. There won't be harsh penalties in PvP so there's no reason for anyone not to try it out.

You present yourself like a tool. First of all I and many other people wouldn't have played WoW if they never played the Warcraft series of games, and I don't see why in the hell anyone who hasn't would play WoW. Blizzard made good games but honestly they should stick to RTS and hack-n-slash RPGs like Diablo, that's where they shine. WoW is a rotting turd of an MMO, they've brought nothing new to the table, just name me some good elements they've brought in, please.
Decaying PvP rank? Get real, who could be so stupid? People don't want the ranks they've earned to decay I don't want to be a Field Marshall only to take a break for a couple of weeks and find out I'm back down to private, that's ridiculous.
Raid oriented end game? Come on how many people with IQs that are higher than their age enjoy taking 40 people to mindlessly zerg one uber boss? It's just for all the phat lewt that all the item whores are raving about, and it has attracted a pathetic community. You have to be in a high-end elitest guild just to even PARTICIPATE in the damn end game.
Instanced PvP? What a pathetic excuse for PvP. There is no more world PvP, there are no more city sieges, there are no more stand offs in Hillsbrad, there's nothing going on in Ashenvale anymore. PvP is officially dead. Oh yeah guess what the "honor system" rewards are? More outdated items for item whores! Yay!
Everyone is an undead or night elf rogue. Speaks for itself.
You are led around from zone to zone like an idiot following the progression of mobs.
Quests are no different as they just ask you to kill this mob X number of times until you get Y number of felwolf skin or what-not for shitty reward of either A B or C. No different than grinding.
Now you may say "the statistics speak for themselves" but truth be told that Warcraft had a nice side market. They appealed to the very large B.net crowd and they appealed to the MMO crowd who were looking for the next big thing. The games cartoon-style look also appeals to the 10-14 year old crowd and the game is very watered down and soft to appeal to people who should be playing console games.
Also we do, in fact, care about promises 'round here. I didn't even get to the shitty graphics, awful community, and how every dungeon and building looks the exact same with different texutres thrown on...
So yes your comments were both biased and retarded, fanboi.
"Time.." I chuckled "I hold no secret to time, though it's mystery puzzles me. Deny it's existence and lie to myself not with hopes of a quickened pace."
Wow was "cute" until about level 40. Then all grind, and at 60... all PVE for gear and competition against your own side for PVP rank. Couple that with (imo) horrible class balancing for both pvp and pve and I canceled fast.
I DO think WAR will bring in lots of WOW people. Some for greener pastures, some because the graphical resemblance, some because they think they'll be gank kings (ha ha no stealth for you).
I ALSO think many of the immature ones will leave as the differences in the game become apparent. They won't have their uber leet gear that made them no-skill kings in WOW and will be getting killed by people that play much less but are simply BETTER. They'll go back to their self-inducing ego-inflation characters in WOW.
Guilds will be more focused on teamwork and tactics instead of "which guild can get me the phat lewt." Collision detection combined with zones for conquest and control will foster teamwork instead of "zerg the pve instance while having orders barked at you over ventrillo." Those that have poor social skills, don't know the meaning of teamwork and are all about their own advancement (screw everyone else) will likely head back to WOW.
All of the WOW stealth fanboys will stay with wow. "I don't understand why I can't walk around invisible and corpse camp all day to ruin other players enjoyment." You can...in WOW, and by all means continue to do so (in wow) when WAR comes out.
/end rant
I'm looking forward to a good RVR game. Hope WAR doesn't disappoint.

And yet you seem to be doing a fine job of making yourself look like a fanboi and an ass. I never said the game wasn't fun, but you make retarded post just going on about how great a game is? Guess what its not that great. You're still sounding like a fanboi. There is a difference in speach between fanbois and someone that likes good work. Me, persoanlly I'm an anime fanboi, but I don't go on other's boreds and post how great another game is. Or how blessed someone would be cause of such and such. You sir are a fanboi in denial. You can't go and see how the game is other then what is on the surface.
Promises mean a great deal when someone says something is going to have this or this and they don't deleaver. Look at sony and the PS3. They were going and removing a second HDMI output, router functionality, two Ethernet ports, two USB ports and controller rumble feature since the original announcement. Now then... Would you go and pay 600$ for that since orginally they were going to have that, but instead decided to remove those items just to make more of a profit? It personally made me lose faith in Sony. (I know there are a lot of SoE haters and I can really understand why, and I would be pissed too if that shit happened.)
Besides you already lose at every arguement here anyway, since you seem to be really upset that someone can look further into what is. I can tell you if WAR is going to have the same problems WoW has; especially with the subscription fees and not even delievering on content or even patching little things at least once every 2 weeks.
Voice your baised, closed minded, oppinions to someone who cares like your cat. Cause this is a place to analize and disect what makes a good game. So if you want to make some intelegent remark and not some thing you think happened. Then leave your EMO at the door and come back when you are ready to actually disscuss this game and not WoW. We aren't in the WoW forums so there is no need for you to try and defend it. Cause I garrentee you I'm not the only one thats looked at WoW and said "Hey its fun for a wile, but they need to start doing things differently."
But hey... I promis if you say something good... I'll give you 100$... Ok?

As for promises, er... I do...
I'm sorry, preferences aside, but if you think that the company that has the most number of games in the top 10 PC best selling games of all times lacks in DESIGN capabilities... you must consider yourself some kind of super genius that grace this Earth of ignorant barbarians with your majestic presence...
It is fine to not like blizzard's products, I'm sure somebody doesn't. But negating evidence and facts (when a product achieve BOTH public AND critical acclaim, it is usually considered a masterpiece or ,at the very least, a very very good product) means you are in denial or hate the company for some reason.
What WoW brought to the market? they proved that you do not need silly awfully boring grinding and downtime for making a MMorpg. you do not need to have people work (yes, EQ was a WORK from level 1) for rising in levels and most importantly, they proved that a game HAS TO BE FUN FROM LEVEL 1 to be succesful.
People in general do not particular care for the "wait until level XX and you will see the good of this game", they want fun from a game right now, first second they start playing it (what a concept eh? fun from a game). WoW gave that.
About promises: the only promise that has not been kept, so far, is the infamous hero classes. They have explained multiple times why that is the case, they simply have no idea how to do them. That is,frankly, a pretty bold statement for a dev to make.
Battlegrounds got implemented, the pvp system got implemented, new quests, items, raids, dungeons get implemented every patch, what the heck you want more? you disagree with the design philosophy? fine! no amount of extra content will change that nor will it make a worse game just because you do not like the style.
I see people complaining about the Raid endgame. and the PvP endgame. what other endgame you can think of? I can't imagine any other.
You think battlegrounds killed world pvp? you might be right (even if it is in your hands to make it not happen, Blizzard just give the tools, the players are the one using them), but they are working to correct this by bringing conquerable objectives in the world with the expansion and maybe even before that, IE: they LISTEN to their player base.
Really, you might not like the game, but the only thing you can blame on Blizzard is being slow... they have always been slow and they always will, is their trademark.
That being said, i do not think there will be too big community issues with WAR. but then that is just me being optimistic.

I had fun with the game when I played it. There were a few more promises then just the hero class. Such as Vechicals. (Hell as an engeneer you were saposed to be able to make vechicals such as the shreader and seige tank.) The engrosing and such PvP that was meant to effect the world. Which is why I'm dissapointed in the game. It is a nice game, but thats about it. Its not as great as people clame it to be. We know blizzard is slow. (all be it see stuff like D2 or anything else that needs patches and what not) But at the same time paying 15 dollars a month and barely getting anything for it is kind of discuraging. We don't even get minor patches every month. I mean think of it this way. Say you go and pay me for a service each month (and I'm pretty well established BTW cause I understand how launch is a pain in the ass) and there are these little quirks in my service where instead of this one thing running properly it goes and becomes either 1) to easy or 2) too difficult or 3) Fails to work at all. Now you're paying monthly and I know of this situation. 4 months pass and I say in this effort (which isn't going to be exicuted immeditly) we are going to fix this. Lets say 2 months pass and now we have said with this fixed, we're also going to do this little thing as well. Releasing more information about it. And then 3 weeks from then it finally occurse. How would you feel as a customer paying for my product?
All I've been saying is there is a very big dissapointment I've had with that game. Which I haven't had of any of their other games. (All be it I don't very much like their other games except for D2. I'm not a big RTS fan. I see them all as pretty much the same thing.) Now your oppinion very well might be different then mine, but at least we can say these sort of things in a well rounded manner.

Blizzard have never been cutting edge.
WoW is a grind for better gear so you can take some part in the PvP game. I don't enjoy having to raid 7/11 in order to just have some part to play at end game PvP.
So what did WoW bring to the market? They showed that you can make a massive end game grind with repetitive quests and random drops so as to make people grind the same raids over and over again and people will line up and que every night to play it.
I like WoW, I was playing my Troll just last night, but Blizzard didn't bring anything to the MMORPG market other than money for their own pockets (fairs fair, good on them). They have made companies think that an MMO can be short, simple and repetitive and people will still line up and play it over and over again.
WoW was a hit because it was Warcraft, I dunno why it's so hard to other companies to get that into their heads when they stick on a lame PvP system etc... The b.net kiddies lept on WoW because it was Warcraft, not JUST because it had PvP.

Good job I don't think it will be!
trolls, the item whores, the farmers, the hackers etc etc.. it's just
that poor WoW having built a somewhat crude bridge between massmultis
and single player worlds has had them 'on mass' so to speak, many have
gone off and opted of the 'free' games (such as GW) whereas others have
ditched the MMO world back to 'singleplayerdom'
WAR
WILL have it's share of bad players but i dought they wont be as on
mass as WoW has had them, certainly not past the beta stages..
WoW is a dumbed down version of every MMO that came before it, it did
nothing new or wonderful. It broke open the MMORPG market because it
was Warcraft not because it did anything new.
It had its

From
the information given WAR will be a contrast to WOW and offer more in
the PVP area although unlike WoW it hasn't shown much in the PVE
area... yet.. Yes WoW is a very basic MMO with PVP tacked on sadly but
as I've said in other topics WAR is hot on Blizzard's heels and is
mustering up 'better' content in an effort to keep it's players base,
this if works well will work in the player's favour as if WAR does
become as good as it is on paper, both games will be trying to out do
each other and hoppfully we will ethier have: 1) Two very good MMOs
catering for all players or 2) one heck of a good MMO from the vitor of
the two
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
If you don't know anything about WoW then plz don't post these extremely retarded and extremely biased comments. (Talking about lyfe)

Now we have
15-20 year olds that don't like playing with the 10-14 year olds and the 26+ year olds that don't like playing with either.

Who gives a shit about promises?
No offence, but what the hell are you talking about? Blizzard design and game lore has never been cutting edge.
As for promises, er... I do...
It sucks! If you want a pure pvp game there is always counterstrike.
war i think will fit all 4. Acheiver items and probly dungeon crawl areas. Killer well rvr from the get go. Skirmishes ect.
socializer well they got a chat box and explorer im not sure. They hopefully add some secret areas or something for them to find and brag about finding.
Orky Name Generator, only at www.bigchoppaz.com

They were going and removing a second HDMI output, router functionality, two Ethernet
ports, two USB ports and controller rumble feature since the original
announcement.
Ok?
