Well I have played every mmorpg in the book except perhaps City of heroes/villians. I must say EQII is a refreshing experience for me. I loved the first EQ and am ohh so tired of WOW. 2 years of WOW is enough for me. besides who wants to do 6 hours a day in one instance area just to kill a couple mobs! I did that for about a year!
I personally am enjoying EQII, I love the crafting element to the game. By far one of the best of all the mmorpgs out there. As to EQII being dead. I have no problem with level disparity. Alot of new players, myself included. But then again im on a pvp server. I think the game is on the rise. I know alot of us who are just starting are ex-WOW players. For me I only play EQII and DAOC now. I only play DAOC because the pvp in DAOC is still the best of any mmorpg <IMO>. EQII while feeling linear right now due to it being a noob zone is still ok. I would expect such! From a game that has so much to do<especially from the expansions> I cannot complain. I would expect some linear focus in the beginning to help the player figure things out and or adjust to the ohh so many features.
So I think the/flame is unwarranted. You perhaps may just need a break. Its good to take one once in a while.
Originally posted by grimboj There will be a lot of people who dispute this as they raid or mentor constantly but here are the facts I have encountered.
*At any level you will have difficulty as you are simply playing with whoever has logged on their lower level alt at that time. I found more parties at level 20 than level 50 and just gave up at level 52 as it is simply intolerable to combine the grind and the 1-3 hours it takes to form a party. *This game is infested with leavers. So even tho it takes 3 hours to form a party, the people who have joined your party will leave at the first whipe or as soon as their dog starts scratching the door and you'll be lucky to come away with 10% of a level done that day. Im not talking about 3am on a thursday night either, Im talking about 3pm on a saturday afternoon on a GMT server. *Once you hit higher level you will encounter very boring people. Guilds have obscene rules like 'no swearing' and any decent guild will be built upon the notion of control and commanding you to do something if you are online and able. If you loot something priceless and someone else in your guild can use it (this person could have joined yesterday), you must give it to them. Dont believe me? Visit the recruitment forum and read the terms for any raiding guild. This level of control is a reaction to market inflation by our friends at IGE People are unable to afford what they want so they steal loot from guildies. *Everyone you encounter in-game will be stressed for all of the above reasons and frequently lash out.
This is obviously a very decent game and the grind isnt even that bad if you get a good party going but it is also a game with a ruined community and the usual 'wrapping paper' that comes with having SOE making all the management decisions. I had a lot of fun but wasted a lot of money on the expansion packs after being told that 'everyone is high level' and 'it gets better at the next tier' so this is my reason for warning you.
So what I am getting at is because you want to level as fast as possible, and don't like people that prefer not to spend free time reading profanity that the game should be shut down?
I was pretty miffed when I wrote that but most of it still stands. Play an instanced game such as Guild Wars and you will instantly walk into a party. I played a necromancer and I have spent 90 minutes solidly spamming chat, personally sending tells to people & inviting everyone in sight and I could not form a sufficient party. If someone invited me to a party it would usually collapse 30 minutes after I joined. I do believe there are good guilds out there but I also spammed the forum looking for a good uk guild and got no reply. People leave so quickly that its impossible to build a relationship and ask to join their guild based on that. Tbh at lvl 30-40 the game was fun and runneye dungeon is obviously the most popular part of the game but post 50 its like the end of the game even with all the expansions purchased. Soloing becomes infesibly slow & raiding guilds need level 65 so Im stuck dead.
Since this is AFTER a server merge and my servers population shows up as medium when the others are low at the time I play then I have to let my statement stand: There simply are not enough people that play the game post level 50 to obtain this level without a tear jerking solo grind over several weeks and that is not the type of game I desire to play.

I think we might have found the problem here. I don't know about anyone else, but I know for me, the more a person spams chat, spams invites, and tells, the less happy I am about getting that person in the group. Nothing is more annoying than looking at your chat box on screen and seeing
The game is increasing in popularity it seems and they have combined servers, so I do not see why people are not grouping more.
Combining servers= dead/dying game.
Think about how many YEARS it took before EQ1 merged their servers, at that point there *were* less people playing so it made sense to merge them.
EQ2's server merger happened , what, only a year or less after it came out?? And they're already pushing out a 3rd expansion for more money?? AND the so called Adventure packs are increasing in price as well (after Smed said they would only be around 5 bucks).
I loved EQ2 at the beginning, I really did. But it's just dead to me now. My friend keeps wanting me to come and play with him, but I'm not about to shell out more money to SOE, especially after that joke of an expansion DOF. Screw that.
AND they're increasing the prices of the expansion packs too, in case anyone noticed.
Just my opinion.
EDIT: also the guild I was in sucked. Too many people take a game too seriously and fly off the handle at every little thing (I don't). If I ever DID go back and try it out again, it'll be tough looking for a new guild.
