When you start you'll randomly roll on a server, Unless you can get a world pass for a specific one. But More or less they're all about the same. So Pick one at random, Try to get a world pass to the one who's name you like the best, or if you have any friends join a server their on.

yeah from what ive read the main difference on the servers in the price of items some servers are just insanely expensive while a few have a pretty stable economy and decent prices on items. Im glad the prices on my servre have finally dropped back down below what i thought was normal from the overpriced christmas time.

Which servers tend to have a good economy?

It's hard to say because there's just so darn many...

But it really shouldn't matter... You'll get a random server when you start anyways. I'd say they're all pretty much the same, despite fluctuating economy. At least they should be...

I started with Pandemonium and later switched to Asura and didn't really notice a difference in terms of population and friendliness... but yes, the economy was quite different. Although from what I heard, the prices skyrocketed in Pandemonium, too. In any case, if you're playing the game alone, choose whatever server. But try to play with a friend. FFXI has a thing for giving bonuses to people who bring in friends.

I've been in Pandemonium for two years...., and I would have to regretfully say that the prices on Pandemonium have just got to far...all newbie gear is too high. Though, money is no problem for me, starting up a character alone is just too freakin' hard.
I am going to delete my characters and move to a different server.

Maybe I'll be seeing some of yous...we should all populate to the same server..that would be kinda cool.

    Neptus - FFXI - Pandemonium

    .

All newbie gear can be bought from NPC vendors...whose prices never change. Since a newbie makes money by selling his loot drops on the AH, it is EASIER for a newbie to make his way on a server with massive inflation, because he gets more money for the loot, but still pays the same prices for his gear.

If I'm not mistaken, even NPC prices are subject to inflation and prices will be lower the more fame you have.  This may not be the case in all towns, but I've seen some completely outrageous prices for mediocre gear sold by NPCs.  On my server, I usually find that buying from the auction house is more cost effective than going to an NPC at early levels, but it's not always the case.  Shopping around a bit is always good advice.

You are mistaken. NPC prices are *not* subject to inflation except at the guilds (and even there only somewhat).

and prices will be lower the more fame you have.

This is true, but not overwhelming. Max fame gets you maybe a 10%-15% discount over having no fame.

Shopping around is always good advice, but if you found beginning armor and weapons more expensive at the NPCs than at the AH, you must be on crack. Here on Remora, prices of equipment at the NPC vendors up to about level 15 or 20 is a *fraction* of the AH, and Remora's inflation has been for the most part relatively mild.

Haha, yeah that would be pretty interesting. Hm... I wonder if my account is still around in PlayOnline's database. Doesn't it get permanently deleted after a certain time?
