I quit this game bout a year ago, not cuz it was boring or anything but just cuz i didnt have the time to play it, but about a month ago i saw an article on 1up.com that talked about new updates coming up for FFXI. I heard that there is going to be chocobo breeding where u can raise chocobos of different colors and stuff. I also heard that in a couple of months there will be an arena where u can battle monsters that u catch (kind of like pokemon). Are of any these things true, cuz if they are im definitely starting up my subscription again.

Chocobo breeding will be in the next update, scheduled for mid-July. There's an arena in Aht Urhgan (the new expansion area) that's locked up at the moment but will be made available. I'm not exactly sure how the combat in the arena is going to work, I haven't been following it too closely, so I don't know if it involves battling monsters you caught or not.

Since you quit, there have been three new jobs added. Blue Mage, Puppetmaster, and Corsair.

Yeah, I quit playing a few months ago because I kinda hit a plateau in enjoyment... plus RFO came out and I thought I'd give it a try. In any case, with these new updates and such, I'm thinking of returning to FFXI as well.

Yup. I'm looking forward to being a Corsair. I'd call myself Blackbeard and scourge the seas... which means I'll pretty much hang around the Selbina/Mhaura boat and fish...

But yeah... Huzzah for the chocobo breeding system! It's about time. The horrible traveling time was one of the reasons why I quit the game. I'd hit autorun to the Dunes and go make myself a sandwich...

    Exciting stuff, these new updates.

Don't get your hopes up *too* much. As near as I can tell, the way this is being implemented is you can go to the chocobo stable and get *your* chocobo instead of renting one of theirs. Not sure if they'll let you ride him if you're under level 15--might be the same situation of owning a car you can't legally drive. I'm pretty sure they're not going to let you just whistle him up wherever you are. With the breeding deal, you can presumably breed up chocobos that are better than the ones available for rent, and, of course, you do save on the rental fees, so it's not that bad, either...

    Ah, I see I see...

Well it's enough to make me want to play again... I mean I'd much rather ride my own chocobo that I so lovingly raised than some random rental... Who knows where those rentals have been? People could go poo behind a tree or something, not wipe properly, then ride a rental. In any case, I'm glad they're finally adding a personal feel to the chocobo system... kinda like back in the FFVII days.

Oh those were the glory days of chocobo breeding...

yeah ever since ffvii the chocobo system has never been as good. ffviii sucked hard... i don't recall it being too great in ffix... and i won't even get into ffx.

i know ffxi won't have as complex a system as ffvii, but its nice to know they're trying.

are there really going to be different colored chocobo? that would be CRAZY. i would almost start playing the game. my friend's been bothering me to start for a while now... but i haven't felt like it. but with various colored chocobo... yes. super.

Some information from the playonline website: (http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml)

'Along with the new chocobo raising system, in the upcoming version
update we will be introducing the ability to call chocobos. This
feature will allow players to call up and ride the chocobo they have
    lovingly raised.

No longer will adventurers have to rely on
rental chocobos for traveling around Vana'diel! Players will be able to
call their very own chocobos anywhere, at anytime.
Impress your friends with your personal chocobo mount!'

    ...

    'Your Own Personal Chocobo
    Colors
    Aside from the familiar
yellow, we will be introducing two new colors for chocobos. We invite
you to try chocobo raising for yourself to discover what colors are
available. Additional colors will make an appearance in subsequent
    version updates.

    Appearance
    The appearance of your chocobo
will change depending on the attributes it acquires. These changes will
affect a part of the chocobo, such as its beak or legs, rather than
    change its appearance entirely.

    Attributes
    Depending on the
method used to raise your chocobo, its attributes will be slightly
enhanced or decreased. For example, some chocobos may run a little
faster, while others may be ridden for longer periods of time.

    Digging
    Just
as with a rental chocobo, it will be possible to dig with your personal
mount. Perhaps you may notice a difference when digging with a chocobo
that you have personally raised with love and care...'

I know that i am looking forward to this and the tons of other new content in the next update.

An Interesting note; They will only be adding 2 new colors this update but all 5 of the breeds will be added.  So  Chocobos that have more than one color (Courser Red/Yellow, Palfrey Blue/Yellow, and the Jennet Green/Yellow) will only be available in yellow until they add more.

Better hurry up, the Update is scheduled for Sunday 16th July.

A fair warning though. You will most likely need Access to Aht Urghan to start breeding Chocobo. So you have to do that Quest first.

If you need any help with that feel free to send me a PM or even better, post here so others can read it aswell.

We talked about this on my FFXI Podcast, but why do people think you will need to have Aht Urghan Access to breed chocobos?  The Stables there haven't even been opened (granted they will be in the up coming update) so they aren't really the mecha for all things Choco.

I think that the breeding, just like getting your licence will be in Jeuno

Actually, this is a good reason for supposing you need Aht Urhgan access to do it. If breeding your own chocobo happens at the Aht Urhgan chocobo stable, then that explains why it is now closed and will open with the update that allows chocobo breeding.
